Tyra was really flipfloppin' between "I'm insulted that black women don't wanna be darker" and "you gotta tone down your blackness, girl" throughout the years.
You mean like how the trends accused of being racial appropriation move through different cultural and racial influences over time, and yet Tyra can only compute what is highly fashionable; not what is moral, equal, diversely individual and truly beautiful in a natural form.
@@Fishnetfreud right but even when the girls have a reasonable level of confidence and like themselves like any person should, the judges call it arrogance and ruin their self esteem
I loved that girl’s exit interview 😂 “this house is gonna suck without me… I’m going back to hooters and my friends and I’m gonna be happy” yes, girl! 👸🏽 Run out of there
I’m almost convinced that, in order to be a judge, all producers do is stick these people in a room with some other people and whoever makes someone cry first is a judge. I don’t understand why they thought blatant bullying was okay? And I’m sad to say that as a child, I didn’t understand it and used to listen to these judges like they wanted to help.
Janice has even said recently that she doesn't regret anything she said on the show. She said something like it was all part of the role she was playing. So basically, they're damaging young womens' confidence for views. Am I surprised though? Not at all. Edit: I looked up the article and this is a quote from it: Former supermodel and judge on "America’s Next Top Model" Janice Dickinson said last week that she doesn’t regret any of the controversial comments she made during her run on the reality show, including remarks that were seen as fat-shaming and ageist. "It was acting. And that’s that," Dickinson told a fan who asked the question on social media. "People forget that TV is acting," she added in the caption to her Instagram video.
I think they were preparing them and helping to thicken their skin for the industry, however all ppl need to have more decency including the judges. We all know they are not nice😔
It drives me CRAZY that the judges will tell one contestant that they're disappointed that the model didn't put more thought into their choices, but will turn around and tell another one that "it's not brain surgery" when she's just trying to explain why she chose the accessories she did.
@@seattlecryptid simping for sure. And I do like the girls, they’re cool! I just never would’ve tolerated that from a photographer (since there are no judges) when I modeled forever ago, or even a goldfish lmao
@River McAndrew it'd be more accurate to say that the panels were at the end of a 16 hour work day for the girls and they were to tired to think properly let a lone fight. They are also punished anytime they attempt to stand up for themselves.
@River McAndrew for a panel maybe. several contestants of the show have stated they would work 13-16 hours a day and are rarely given time for food and water. the point being that the will to fight the judges is forced out of the girls somehow. Also important: being at the house is still work. they are still being filmed they have to make extra effort to not be on camera for even a minute. the contestants of this show are always overworked underfed and gaslit into thinking it's a proper work environment
The way they treated Camille this season was terrible. First she was too quiet, which they thought was arrogant and then she opens up and they say she's complicating things too much. She couldn't win with the judges
I really didnt like how they treated her in the episode about Yoanna's potential eating disorder. We get ita a modelling competition, but if Yoanna actually was bulimic, Camille was actually responsible by saying "yeah, actually Yoanna does tend ro go to the bathroom after meals" becauseit could have been a red flag. Yoanna didnt have an eating disorder, but was actually cheating by slipping away and calling home.
They didn't dress her up to be Angelina Jolie, they dressed her up like Lara Croft. Its like saying you are dressing someone up like Michael Keaton then dressing them up like Beetlejuice 🤣 thank goodness this episode was recorded before Maleficint came out...
another thing i never noticed while watching ANTM as a teenager is the casual sexual comments the judges spew literally all the time. they talk all that talk about being professional and then tell the girls stuff like "use that scarf to tie up your boyfriend" or "you need to get laid". and every time there was a girl who was vocal about being -- le gasp -- a virgin, they made it into a massive thing that was somehow hindering her whole career and asked her such highly personal questions, like, i just. what the actual hell.
@@teapotlizard you cease to be a teenager once you turn 18 and become a legal adult. Kinda shocking how difficult this concept is for so many people to understand
“I picked these accessories because they matched” is the simplest reason Camille could’ve given for her choices. What a dumb hill for that judge to die on, telling her she thought about it too much.
Its brain surgery levels of explanation! They must think brain surgery is very simple or they thought her explanation was too confusing because they were an idiot haha.
The man that told the girl that it’s not brain surgery was just such toxic masculinity at its finest- all at once intimidating, talking over, insinuating that her confidence is determined by him, that her thoughts are stupid and not important like brain surgery, and had to win the last word. UGGHHHH
I remember this one. I’ve hated Tyra every episode but the point she’s talking about specifically is not “I don’t look like her” she actually says “Grace is 15000 shades darker than me”. That opens the whole colorism discussion and all of that.
But then they black face her. If she was white we would understand why she wouldn't want to do that but because she is of colour, making her participate in that seems to be ok. Going darker naturally in the sun is one thing but to paint your skin black to look like a black woman isn't the same. I'm brown and love getting a tan but to impersonate a darker black woman by painting my face black would make me uncomfortable.
@@SHMZ-B that's what I was wondering, I'm white. So I don't want to speak for the community, but my first thought when they painted her face was..... isn't that inappropriate? Did they cut it to make it look like she was just bitching when in reality she considered it blackface? Knowing this show it wouldn't surprise me
@@Milk-mq6gl exactly plus if she had some internalized colorism , can we really blame her ? the beauty standard has never been in favor of darker skinned Black women . Black girls are taught that they should NEVER want to be darker .
Always shocking the excuses people will conjure up to excuse colorism. Let's just excuse all racism, sexism, etc since people were taught it and we can't blame them. It was inappropriate and wrong - but that's not what she cared about at all, and in this time period I don't think she'd have even thought of that. Her complaint was she "doesn't look like her" and that Grace Jones was "15000 shades darker"
Im embarassed to say I didnt like Camille when this show came out. Once I revisited the show as an adult I found out how brilliant, well-intentioned and beautiful she really was. Production made us think she was a bad person- the villain of the show when Yoanna was.
I didn't like her either - same reasons. Now I'm shocked by how little she actually did wrong and how hard they had to work to make her the bad guy. She is absolutely stunning, and so charismatic it's ridiculous.
They both were really young and in a stressful situation. Editing always gave Yoanna the benefit of the doubt even when she was in the wrong. But, Camille was also in the wrong on multiple occasions, which is why the girls from her season say that she was very difficult to live with.
I mean in the first half of the season she wasn't horrible, but then Camille literally insinuated that Yoanna had an ED to Tyra. Did y'all really forget that?
Tyra was more personal and (kinda) likeable the earlier seasons when she would visit on set and help them and would be at the house with the girls talking. Later on, we barely saw her.
Can't agree with that 😛 she was always manipulative and rude.. to put it mildly. As in from the start, not all the time. I just feel the niceness was very conditional.
I agree with both, but it’s probably better when she isn’t building them up because it’s makes the tear down so much worse when you think she might actually like you.
The understanding and genuine appreciation you have for the photographer's quality is so heartfelt, it's the true reward for watching your commentaries, for me You had me imagining a very stern "you're not picking shitty photos from ME" conversation 😆
Really gets me that these girls really didn't realize that you can be a model without being ANTM. Like there isn't a certification you receive afterward. Just being on the show at all and using the photos here as a portfolio would be enough.
The accessorizing the dress part makes me so mad - how are you gonna tell the girls to to that and then tell most of them to take all the accessories off??? If the accessories looked tacky it’s cause you guys got em at the dollar store…
The judges monologues you did! 🤣 "Why would she have a purse?!" "Ya know, America is America, is on top of America." "Ma'am! MA'AM! in order to be confident- im gonna speak for you." Amazing as always Jessica ♡
How they said Katie looked like a man in that photo really hurt me, she looked amazing, had the posing right and didn't go overboard. Knocking everyone down after asking them for personal style and then that judges comment of 'it's not brain surgery' really puts emphasis on how toxic shows like this are, the whole I'm right and you're wrong even if you followed directions.. It's pretty disgusting. They remove the personality from these people and make them nervous then moan later on when they lack 'flair' & become generic. Like what do you expect, you took out any individuality in the beginning and stomped it out whenever it tried to claw its way back. On a side note, this made me go and look at Andrew Eccles work and wow. His work is amazing, the stuff he did for the American Dance Theatre... Phenomenal.
That's so true. And what I couldn't understand is why they took short girls (like Jenascia or Noelle from cycle 4) or plus size girls (like Toccara or some other ladies from different seasons) and then constantly pointed on their height/weight. Looks like the judges and producers knew from the beginning that those girls never gonna win and they used them for drama only.
@River McAndrew Maybe, but, if she's too short to be a successful model anyway ... why choosing her for the competition ? Did they really think a few weeks of bullying are gonna make her taller ?
@River McAndrew You're right, no need to answer such a huge pile of non sense. But thank you for the laughs. Get down of your high horse, baby, and chill a bit. You'll live longer.
Watching this back I have to ask why would they give her Grace Jones? The girl was upset because she didn't look like her so she wasn't sure how she was going to pull it off. That's actually a reasonable concern and I actually agree. They could have gave her another celebrity that looked closer to her like they did the other models but they gave her Grace Jones? And Tyra is not a dark skin woman so she is not in the position to be insulted on behalf of a dark-skinned woman. This situation actually reminds me of when Zoe Saldana was casted to play Nina Simone a few years ago and there was a lot of outrage about that. Zoe Saldana looked nothing like Nina Simone, so much so that they gave her a prosthetic nose, spray tanned her skin, and gave her a party city looking wig, The whole thing was very insulting and it was not a good look. They could have just casted an actress that looked like Nina Simone to play her but they didn't do that. So I completely see where the model was coming from. And she still did an amazing job.
She was also probably upset cuz Grace Jones is very dark and most black girls (especially at that time) did not wanna be compared to someone that dark. If they gave her beyonce or rihanna she would have been happy.
@River McAndrew you can be Latina and also be black, white, native or Asian. Latina isn’t a race . Spanish isn’t a race. Spanish is a nationality. But she isn’t Spanish because she isn’t from Spain. She is Cuban which is a nationality not a race or ethnicity.
So the model who seems to have put the most thought and intention into the challenge is getting the most crap? Because there isn't anything for him to criticise? Damn, that's just mean. It's such a well put together look, and having that attention to detail is amazing.
I noticed in the critique if the final two pictures they had nothing bad to say about the actual pictures. They just made up stuff to justify the elimination but the pictures were actually fantastic
it's basically ' we want all of you to just pick the pearls' also, judging models as someone who's having several birds nest on their head for what looks like at least a decade is kinda the ultimate delusional karen. but i guess that's just her ' own style'
Weirdly enough, the challenge was to accessorise the little black dress. If the judges wanted to see versatility, why are they like: take that accessory off, it doesn't work. Use our personal style instead. 🤦🏻♂️ Canada Next Top Model did that challenge as well, but, the judges loved the versatility
The fact that Tyra gave the contestants good direction this time shows she can, in fact, direct and coach models...which means the times she doesn't are intentional...
In the least, uh, controversial way I can put it, "Blonde" is not a movie about Marilyn Monroe, it's about "Marilyn Monroe." The movie is less a biopic and more an adaptation of a novel, and the original novel is a fictionalized account of the life of Marilyn Monroe (and Norma Jean Baker). A lot of the distaste for it comes from people who feel that (in the current Hollywood culture) it's easily mistaken for a true story, rather than fiction. The "Myth of Marilyn" is well known in culture and a lot of audiences are likely to take "Blonde" as a near-factual account of her life.
Yeah Blonde was the most disgusting film I've seen in years. They deliberately made it confusingly similar to life to market it as a biopic. That woman they portrayed was some Torture p*rn perpetual victim very far removed from the real life Marilyn. so repulsive
Did the movie even put at the start that it’s based off the book which is a fictional book? the only issue I have is that they don’t make it clear it’s fiction.
it’s crazy how this has been the best photoshoot so far and I’m convinced they only gave good advise without backhanded compliments and scrutinizing, because they didn’t want to portray their fellow celebs poorly. gotta actually do my job and be an ok person today!
Tyra giving people a modesty lecture when every episode is centered around shoots she did and everything is about what she would do. Heidi Klum hosted Project Runway and we didn't get 100 episodes of the Heidi show. We had a couple episodes where they designed for Heidi's line but that is it. Tyra is self absorbed.
I remember Jenashia in this season. They didn’t have to explain what they meant by “when you lack something other girls have.” It’s her height. They couldn’t stop telling her that 5’7” was too short to be a model.
Pretty sure they must have known her height when they cast her for the show in the first place tho…why hire someone and then, after the fact, discriminate based on their height?
On the plus side, the coaching during the photoshoots in this episode were one of the better ones. It was nice seeing tyra getting right up in there and showing them what to do rather than just leaving them to figure it out from a vague statement like "Booty tooch" or whatever. But holy hell, I'm pretty sure the only requirements for judges have nothing to do with industry experience and is just how much they can break down the girls. I also find it kind of hypocritical the way they're critiquing the girl's personal style from the challenge while tyra is up there looking like some wannabe skater girl.
girl stop putting yourself down, you are absolutely GORGEOUS and so is your personality! and on top of all that you have talent too?? get outta here :P
Tyra was talking about Jenascia's height. She was always criticized every week about being too short, especially from Janice. They just wanted to send her home.
Xiomara was upset she had to potray someone darker than her, but on the other hand they didn't match the other girls' skin tone, just hers so.... blackface happened
Why did she need to be excited about being darker? No one else had to change their skin tone why not get someone who matched her look like everyone else? Usually if you aren’t naturally dark or tanning naturally, it will always look bad darkening your skin. Not to mention the bad history and stigma around darkening your skin to play a character. This show has too long of a run for how problematic it was 😅
Making someone look darker is ridiculous , just pick another African American actress there are plenty that can have a similar skin color to the model. It looks so bad.
They could've kept Grace Jones, just not made her darker to look more similar, I think Grace has such a strong energy that embodying that along with the outfit would have been enough to be able to tell who she was.
Hmmmm... Just a thought..But when All forms of Media (TV, Movies, and Magazines) lighten the skin of Black Models or Entertainers it's not an issue or concern to no one... hell look at any medium brown skin tone Black Female Entertainer that is featured in a magazine... they are always 5 shades lighter, often looking Light skin. Is that inappropriate or it's just hypocritically different?... just a thought from a random Black person 🤷🏽♂️
I feel what Tyra Banks meant by the feeling of being insulted, after listening the model talk about Grace Jones "...I don't feel like I look like her!!" was like she feels disgusted by her beauty and reject it. Grâce Jones is such an icon, her beauty and personality is uniqueness, there will never be an other woman like her.. She is wow. Just like Marilyn Monroe ...
I agree!! That's how I took it as well (and then the other model saying Grace Jones scares her????) They didn't even necessarily have to darken her skin. In terms of posing and fashion, Grace Jones was probably one of the easiest ones for a model to have so to complain because Grace Jones is 20000 shades darker than her or whatever she said is very off color.
Yeah, I felt a bit taken aback by her comments. I do think she didn't want to be androgynous and dark, which Grace was. But she's a queen so I was a bit... ???
Actually, in cycle 15 Tyra assigned the models to be famous fashion designers. I think the model Kendal in that season was chosen to be Vera Wang. She didn’t know who that was, and couldn’t “embody” the character and was eliminated because of it. Those celeb portrayal photos are the worst, I never understood the point of them, besides shock value.
It reminds me of when they've done those bad ones that have the girls represent different ethnicities, they expected them to just know how to represent them without really giving them any information.
We need to sit down and count how many times Tyra has adjusted a model's race. I can think of 4 episodes, 12ish girls off the top of my head, but as I rewatch these, I realize how many horrible things i forgot lol.
1. I love how you snuck a power rangers reference in when the 30th anniversary was just announced. 2. Any chance you can do more of the good photo shoots. I love hearing your positive feedback on angles, lighting and lens. Also on the concepts
She wasn’t even short. Maybe by modeling guidelines, but not in general. I believe she was 5’7”. I’m so glad the industry is changing. We have models that are thin, curvy, thick, small breasts, large breasts, small bums, large bums, short, average, tall, many different skin colors, crooked/gap teeth, models with disabilities, tattoos, whatever. So happy with how diverse it is becoming. I wish I would have grown up being taught self-love and seeing media with all different types of bodies, instead of fashion shows and magazines calling women short or chunky. Gave me really bad self-esteem issues and body dysmorphia.
@River McAndrew also, I am aware of these things. 2 of my uncles were underwear models in their twenties, another one of my other uncles lives in LA and is a former print model and an actor that mainly is in LGBTQ shows/movies. Also, my fiancé was approached several times to be a male runway model as a teenager, but he always turned it down due to his self-esteem issues. He is 6’3.5” I unfortunately inherited my height from my little Sicilian grandpa. I’m 5’3.5”, but look taller since I have longer arms and legs and a short torso. I just love the diversity that is happening now with all body types. Lily Rose Depp is a runway and print model at 5’3”, Devin Aoki 5’5”, Amina Blue 5’1”, Georgia May Jagger 5’7”, Iskra Lawrence plus-size, Ali Tate-Cutler plus-size , Thando Hapo South African albino It’s beautiful to see diversity in the fashion industry. Also, my point about calling the women chunky when they weren’t. Tyra didn’t have any room for such comments as she is curvy herself and was no where near her leanest size.
Omg I LOVE! this Diana Ross picture! I think this might be my in my top 5 fave photos. The purpley-pink color on Essence was so gorgeous with her skin tone. Purple, I feel like isn't used in photography very much. Loved it. And Xiomara totally killed it as Grace Jones. The Marilyn Monroe shot was a perfect pinup shot of her. Audrey Hepburn was adorable. This shoot really surprised me too.
What to do if you don't know the celebrity? Then you act like your "favourite" celebrity, Tyra, and you make sure you bring that up in panel. "I'm not familiar with this celebrity, but I know that they're a badass and the biggest badass I know and respect is Tyra Banks. So I tried to channel you as this celebrity." How can Tyra eliminate you then?
Yea I was going to say the same because Grace Jones is an entire vibe that if you channel that … that’d work great … no need to airbrush to her skinny tone even though her skin is so beautiful and iconic
Who wouldn't want to look like me with my dark beautiful heavenly skin Tyra Banks you still have not learned! This is why you said my skin texture was too rough because that's truly what you feel about me and yourself

I absolutely love how you do your sponsor! You tell us who it is and then go into it later. I don't skip your sponsor advertisement. I love how you love squarespace! Also I though it was funny how Tyra said America wants a modest top model but they make the models do unmodest things! Lol lol
I finally figured it out, after all your vids on these ANTM fiascos and disgusting behavior. This show 100% seems to model a toxic family dynamic where you have the golden child, the scapegoat and everyone in between. It's f*d up! I always had this ugh feeling around that poor girl Cait, (?) the one they made into Maryland Monroe, how they treated her grossed me out bc they always babied her and she could do no wrong, golden child! I have to convince my teen self rewatching this and remind myself that these poor girls were butchered by the producers to be a spectacle and they are not themselves here. Just gross... Anyway love your videos so much Jessica. Just love you sharing the art of photography. I miss knowing the details of apature and iso and all that it's been like 20 yrs since i learned it in HS and lost it all from being unable to use it when I graduated bc of money but you always inspire me to find a time to relearn when my mind is better.
I feel bad for these people who went on this show. In the moment they most likely got lots of attention if they won, but today I don’t think any of them are big big models. All this for nothing. Even Tyra fell off
Well the Blonde movie was based off of a fictional book, so it’s not telling Marilyn Monroe’s story. It’s some person who wanted to tell a certain narrative.
Ugh on the topic of that "biography". It was so disrespectful to Marilyn. Firstly, Marilyn struggled with infertility but in the movie they made her suffer multiple unwanted abortions which would have never happened. It's presented as very "pro life". Then the whole movie is basically torture p**n with graphic SA scenes. The director was basically fantasizing about harming her. I can't tell you how upsetting that movie was to watch. Marilyn deserved care and respect that she never got and still isn't getting after her death.
It's possible she could have had abortions, but I don't think there's any evidence of that. She was certainly passed around like a piece of meat by the studio executives in Hollywood, it was pretty awful for her.
@River McAndrew you know for some who likes screaming at people to “get over it,” you sure do sound overly aggressive over someone just stating their opinion about a movie. Maybe YOU should get over the fact that other people will have an opinion that is different from your own.
@River McAndrew Are you from the future? Because Marilyn did certainly not die a century ago. Are you Kim's family member? No? Then get over people being mad at her for ruining an iconic dress.
Honestly the judges panel gives major “we have permission to bully models now and make it look like constructive criticism, yay!” But they’re constantly bullying and almost gas lighting them. Into becoming generic products. These people make me irate, I wish I had an opportunity to be in those rooms and stand my ground.
She was telling herself at the same time, but she couldn't change. She was sick of being disappointed at herself, that's why she lashed out at Tiffany. It all connects. Joking.
The thing about Tyra is through all her faulst she is genuinely a great model, and a lot of her advice is legitimately helpful. In that regard the earlier seasons are better, she's more of a presence.
I agree with that. She didn't always have bad intentions, not by a long shot. It's sad how - I feel - she lost what she really did initially want to achieve.
I think she genuinely wanted to bring in different and more ethnic looks to the modelling world. That the show ended up to be more a reality than a modelling show I'm not sure she could affect that that much, she had to bring something that's interesting on tv.
I remember Tyra being really angry because the model called Grace Jones ugly - it’s not shown on that clip tbf - and I have to say I totally agreed with Tyra…
Yeah, I didn't like her attitude. Idk if Tyra was all that offended - it makes good content, after all - but maybe I am biased because to me Grace Jones is a goat.
Eliminations on the British version SO different; judges always point out how well the girl did to get there, that she has a great portfolio now and will definitely be able to work as a model (in most cases), etc., they leave her with words of praise and encouragement! This is just awful to watch.
Your comments are funny, accurate too. But I feel bad for the girls who get bumped, because the road doesn’t have to end there, they can continue pursuing their desired career, there are so many agencies, and Instagram, etc.
I think when Camille said "I wanna be right", she meant "I want to get it right". Hello Camille has a degree in advertising *pause* minor in fashion. She worked on an ad in Times Square. Camille knew how to get ahead in that industry. sadly she wasn't the one they wanted to get ahead hahahaha
This was a great one 4u to sink ur teeth into, Jessica.😝👍🏻 Also, really liked how u added an ending or goodbye to the end of the video(s). I used 2b watching vids of urs & all of a sudden, it'd end abruptly & I'd be looking for closure.. lol..
As soon as they mentioned the "personal style" I knew they were going to rip those poor girls apart and they did.
I like how they tear the models' choices of accessories to pieces while Tyra herself wore... THAT.
Yeah, no idea what she and/or her stylist was thinking with that mess of an outfit.
All the judges had questionable outfits like what was the hairstyle of that guest judge blond lady?
I do think some of them tried to emulate the judge's style choices! But they wanted them all to have a dior / chanel look lol
SERIOUSLY!!!!!
@@sarahm5936 then why didnt they say so?
It’s amazing how when the photographer and everyone on set are kind and positive, you get the best out of everyone.
The photographer and tyra were both good on set today which is a rarity.
I actually really liked Camille and I agree.
They didn't dress her up to be Angelina Jolie, they dressed her up like Lara Croft. Its like saying you are dressing someone up like Michael Keaton then dressing them up like Beetlejuice 🤣 thank goodness this episode was recorded before Maleficint came out...
Bahahahhahah I can only image....
Girl! 😂😂😂😂💀
@River McAndrew way to miss a point on purpose.
🤣🤣🤣 omg you're on point!
Agreed…Lol.. when I saw his name I automatically thought “Batman”…..
another thing i never noticed while watching ANTM as a teenager is the casual sexual comments the judges spew literally all the time. they talk all that talk about being professional and then tell the girls stuff like "use that scarf to tie up your boyfriend" or "you need to get laid". and every time there was a girl who was vocal about being -- le gasp -- a virgin, they made it into a massive thing that was somehow hindering her whole career and asked her such highly personal questions, like, i just. what the actual hell.
made even more disgusting because of how young a lot of these women are.

UGGHHHH
Where's the masculinity tho'?
He’s the most feminine person in that room tho, soooo
more like toxic obnoxiousness
@@menshealth-mag2088 The masculinity stems from wanting to dominate and exert control over a woman who is standing up for herself. 💖
@@bibliotecas69 tell me you don't know what toxic masculinity means without telling me-
I remember this one.
Knowing this show it wouldn't surprise me
@@tararaw8518 I'm black and it's definitely inappropriate. I don't think it's colorist to not want to be darker, she's likes how she is.
Are you kidding? She was a total bully to the other girls!
This 💯
Tyra was more personal and (kinda) likeable the earlier seasons when she would visit on set and help them and would be at the house with the girls talking.
So true!
Have you seen her now, she certainly did add to her waistline.
Once you turn more rehearsed and corporate you lose your interest in other human beings and just approach them for benefits or profit.
The understanding and genuine appreciation you have for the photographer's quality is so heartfelt, it's the true reward for watching your commentaries, for me
You had me imagining a very stern "you're not picking shitty photos from ME" conversation 😆
I was shocked that she had never heard of, let alone studied Andrew Eccles' 33yrs enormous & many times awarded body of work. He is absolutely huge.
So, "just say you picked the accessoires bc u liked them" but als "go back and really think about it this time" ... I am confusion...
They’re literally so manipulative ☹️
Really gets me that these girls really didn't realize that you can be a model without being ANTM. Like there isn't a certification you receive afterward. Just being on the show at all and using the photos here as a portfolio would be enough.
Most of the winners u never saw them again
I think I’ve read that the modeling industry doesn’t respect the show at all so it probably didn’t do much. Idk where any of the winners ended up tbh
I dont think the photos were even usable sometimes because of the extremeness of the photos.
@@Blue.1889 yea a couple of the models who didn’t win actually did better in Asia.

Omg the little crying monologue had me dying😂😂
"I just want them to be on top.. Of.. America"

Phenomenal.
Janice has a lot of nerve telling these models their accessories look terrible… 👀👀
Right!
😂
Grace Jones was amazingly beautiful but her looks are so pure and honest it's very hard to replicate
Facts!!! The only one who really did Grace justice on this show was Krista. And even then, it was just her energy.
Grace has so much presence, she exudes that rare powerful aura that others just can’t simply reproduce by trying
They only sent Jenascia home bc Janice couldn’t get over how short she was. Literally every episode she’d bring it up. It was pretty annoying.
@River McAndrew why do I have a feeling you could make the judges on ANTM look like Hulk Hogan and Brock Lesnar after the bar closes
@River McAndrew *because .
@River McAndrew huh
Absolutely agree
She was also probably upset cuz Grace Jones is very dark and most black girls (especially at that time) did not wanna be compared to someone that dark. If they gave her beyonce or rihanna she would have been happy.
@River McAndrew Cuban isn’t a race but a nationality. Cubans can be a variety of races and ethnicities.
“Why are you carrying things?” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 “don’t you have assistants?” 🤣💀 dam that skit cracked me up
So the model who seems to have put the most thought and intention into the challenge is getting the most crap? Because there isn't anything for him to criticise?
Damn, that's just mean. It's such a well put together look, and having that attention to detail is amazing.
I noticed in the critique if the final two pictures they had nothing bad to say about the actual pictures. They just made up stuff to justify the elimination but the pictures were actually fantastic
it's basically ' we want all of you to just pick the pearls'
also, judging models as someone who's having several birds nest on their head for what looks like at least a decade is kinda the ultimate delusional karen.
but i guess that's just her ' own style'
Weirdly enough, the challenge was to accessorise the little black dress. If the judges wanted to see versatility, why are they like: take that accessory off, it doesn't work. Use our personal style instead. 🤦🏻♂️
Canada Next Top Model did that challenge as well, but, the judges loved the versatility
I always felt this show was abusive, but seeing it ages later I see that it is even worse than I suspected.
To be honest the movie never clearly states this and a lot of people have gone away from it thinking that literally was Marilyn's life
Did the movie even put at the start that it’s based off the book which is a fictional book? the only issue I have is that they don’t make it clear it’s fiction.
Pretty sure the director didn't even watch Marilyn's movies and just winged it... I can't be certain though.
it’s crazy how this has been the best photoshoot so far and I’m convinced they only gave good advise without backhanded compliments and scrutinizing, because they didn’t want to portray their fellow celebs poorly. gotta actually do my job and be an ok person today!
I wish Naomi Campbell was the judge I feel she'll do it with Grace. As for Tyra I don't understand her Sense of judgment.
So true about Heidi on project runway
I remember Jenashia in this season. They didn’t have to explain what they meant by “when you lack something other girls have.” It’s her height. They couldn’t stop telling her that 5’7” was too short to be a model.
And the next cycle they chose Eva to win - but she's 5'7" too! I think they were truly unfair to Jenascia.
Pretty sure they must have known her height when they cast her for the show in the first place tho…why hire someone and then, after the fact, discriminate based on their height?
Oh, I thought they were talking about her breasts. Because she said before the shoot that she didn't have Salma's figure.
It didn’t they saw Xiomara’s features and matched them to graces
They could have done Tina Turner and it would have gone better.
Don't understand.
The most beautiful woman I have ever seen was black. She was from Ethiopica.
Stunning!!
This show has too long of a run for how problematic it was 😅
Right like come on now. I thought this was ANTM, not a Vaudeville minstrelsy show
Making someone look darker is ridiculous , just pick another African American actress there are plenty that can have a similar skin color to the model. It looks so bad.
They could've kept Grace Jones, just not made her darker to look more similar, I think Grace has such a strong energy that embodying that along with the outfit would have been enough to be able to tell who she was.
she could've just had the styling of Grace Jones without her complexion changing.
Black face not matter on who is always going to be beyond out of f'n order
🙄🙄🙄🙄
“The top models America loves are humble…and modest…” - just like Tyra 😅. She was great giving direction this week though.
I literally cannot with the black necklace she haphazardly tossed onto her shoulder. That's the look they cheered for? 😂😂😂
The Kardashians’ impersonation from 14:06 was crazy. Literally spot on 😂😂💔
I feel what Tyra Banks meant by the feeling of being insulted, after listening the model talk about Grace Jones "...I don't feel like I look like her!!" was like she feels disgusted by her beauty and reject it.
yea i was definitely bothered. it wasn’t the fact that she didn’t know who grace jones was, but the fact that she didn’t want to be darker
I mean honestly how into fashion and the business can she be if she doesn't even know who vera Wang is?!
@@grantmegan91 Hmm, Google maybe? lol. But what’s the point of dressing up, and portraying her? Tell me how does that go into a modeling portfolio?

@River McAndrew Hence, Where I stated by modeling guidelines that 5’7” was short, but not in general.
He is 6’3.5”
I unfortunately inherited my height from my little Sicilian grandpa. I’m 5’3.5”, but look taller since I have longer arms and legs and a short torso.
I just love the diversity that is happening now with all body types. Lily Rose Depp is a runway and print model at 5’3”, Devin Aoki 5’5”, Amina Blue 5’1”, Georgia May Jagger 5’7”, Iskra Lawrence plus-size, Ali Tate-Cutler plus-size , Thando Hapo South African albino
It’s beautiful to see diversity in the fashion industry.
Also, my point about calling the women chunky when they weren’t. Tyra didn’t have any room for such comments as she is curvy herself and was no where near her leanest size.
@River McAndrew H O N E Y the average may be 5'9" but there are plenty of super models shorter than that, like KATE MOSS.

This shoot really surprised me too.
What to do if you don't know the celebrity? Then you act like your "favourite" celebrity, Tyra, and you make sure you bring that up in panel.
23:42 "this photograph did not come to play" I had the same reaction WOW!! 🔥🔥🔥
@River McAndrew loool why are you crying like that .
Marilyn had miscarriages and desperately wanted to be a mom
They’re all so beautiful. Especially the girl before the one with the hat. Wow wow wow
"What is she going to pitch to shark tank" 🦈💀🤣
Honestly the judges panel gives major “we have permission to bully models now and make it look like constructive criticism, yay!”
But they’re constantly bullying and almost gas lighting them. Into becoming generic products.
These people make me irate, I wish I had an opportunity to be in those rooms and stand my ground.
They gave them accessories to style themselves according to their personalities and then told to take them off... WTH?!
Is Tyra really trying to say she's a modest person? Lol
This season had some of the most beautiful girls! They were all beautiful!
Tyra loves to make models dark but I don't recall seeing her darker. Hmm
As someone who has met almost the whole cast of the original MMPR series plus so many others, my childhood was completely Power Rangers and anime
So excited when you mentioned New Zealand 🇳🇿 we are Kmart obsessed here
I think when Camille said "I wanna be right", she meant "I want to get it right".
I used 2b watching vids of urs & all of a sudden, it'd end abruptly & I'd be looking for closure.. lol.. Great change!💯
As someone who's been a working model (for a short time) & been to a professional modeling school etc, I think this season had the most good models.. Have a Happy Halloween/Samhain, Jessica! 🎃💜🌙🦇
are we not going to be talking about how problematic it is to darken a model’s skin??
No so many use fake sun tan
@@d1am0nds there's a fine line and it's pretty obvious. If it's not clearly orange, it's going to be offensive to most (but technically not all) people of color, and most white people younger than 70 as well. The POC who aren't offended have every right to have a different take on it. But the yts who think brown is the new orange need to do some serious soul-searching to say the very least.
@@pumpkinmuffindollies i mean, white people who actually tan in the sun dont go orange.... they go browner.......
So crazy how 2000s this show is.. Grace Jones is scary then because of why she's iconic now.. she has dark clothes, feirce, short hair, mysterious. Love her
I remember this Black chic. As a Black West indian woman, I was so damn insulted! Grace Jones is a Jamaican Icon. She paved they way for so many!
Ok. That doesn't mean she wanted to look like her.
@@missvida6251 but it’s the way she said it. don’t disrespect someone because grace is a beauty icon.
Their issue with Jenascia was her height, she was considered short for an ANTM model
Didnt know you could do blackface on a black model til now bt yikes.
There is A LOT to unpack about colorism here. Like a lot
Your cry sequence had me dying! Love your humor.
You had me laughing when you said Tyra was going to pull out her photo for a beautiful photo.
Grace Jones is beautiful and one of the most photogenic women ever. She is living art.
The black and white and voice destortion parts..send me 😂
Ironic how out of all of them, the one girl that was upset by who she was portraying (Grace Jones), was the one who ended up looking the most like her allocated celebrity … and I think she did great!
So tyra admits that xiomara doesn't look like Grace Jones....so then why was she upset at xiomara for being upset that she doesn't look like Grace Jones.....?? When every other girl got an exact look alike celebrity? Ok.
So tyra was upset because she thought xio insulted grace. So how the hell is tyra wrong for that??? Y'all have zero brains of your own. No rational thinking skills. And think everyone is trying to insult dark skin. So insecure
Lost it at 13:51 😂 Love your sense of humour!
