I’m so thankful to finally have found you! It’s Patty from Florida. I know I sound like a dummy but I promise I an writing the truth. When I finally went to opthamologist, I was having drainage tears, irritation, and I THOUGHT it was due to cataract. Dr. Did NOT do one test for dry eye. Ex: tbut, schirmers, etc. I was told to get restasis and use 2 times daily. I followed everything. Approximately 6 months later I returned. He made one comment “your response are dry as a bone”. I TRULY knew nothing about DED. so, he said w could do cataract surgeries. Schedule first approximately 6 mths after. Due to pandemic, and 2 orher unrelated setbacks I finally had first in September 2020. I was not given an option for type of lens, lasik, just happened. I guess I was very uneducated in DED, and cataract surgeries. It was only one(maybe2) weeks prior to surgery that he started an eye drop routine, with ocusoft. I was changed from restasis to xiidra. We go forward. I requested sedation. That eye I was pretty much sedated took him approximately 1 1/2 hours. WOW!!! Talk about pain!!! After I came home for weeks I had to wear 2 pairs of sunglasses in my living room. My eye was on fire. He changed back to restasis because xiidra burned bad. Never mention treatment of DED. So, 2nd surgery about month later. Same routine. This eye was BAD! I arrived at surgical center at noon. Surgery last 3 1/2 hours. Minimal sedation. I could feel him scraping my eyeball. Finally over around 3:30-4. Again I couldn’t see, eye was fire. Lasted a few months. After it was over 🥵, still he would mention periodically dry eye. Never mentioned dry eye specialist. Gave me list of otc drops, I tried everything he said. I felt like I had made the biggest mistake of my life. Finally, one day he said “have you ever seen Dr xxxxx. I replied no, who is it? She was the DED specialist. Then he said “ she doesn’t take your insurance “. Uh well, I was hopeless. He asked me 3 plus times. I finally asked “will she give free consult?” Reply was “all she can do is sy no” WOW! I saw her and YES she did take my ins. I was told they never heard of that before. So, I saw her twice. Changed cequa, told me to use oasis every hour. Then she’s gone. Another dr. Comes. She’s gone. Now I’m where I’m at and scheduled with another dr. In May. Then another specialty hospital Med Ctr. In June. I’m so looking forward to seeing you. Idk how soon I need to schedule however I want m eyes back. I only learned about MGD, etc from my records and doing a lot of research. Then came you! What a Blessing! I know m messages are long. I apologize but I truly am so thankful for finding you. I have so many questions. My last visit with the 2nd dry eye specialist, she said to me “well, we’ve done all we can do for you”. That was a low blow. Shortly after I had appointment with opthamologist. I was nice, professional, however I expressed my opinion about his actions and not treating DED prior to surgeries, abou lying about insurance, and he said nothing to me. Just leaned against the wall staring. I’m so confused. Why? I’m not stupid,yet I’m not an opthamologist or optometrist. He should have explained more. If so maybe I would have made different choice. No explanation of ANYTHING. I’m sorry, I ve been frustrated and painful eyes, they feel like full of fluid, I do have floaters, my left eye has a line on left side. Red all around eyes , inflamed, and they appear more sunken in. I’m so sorry just so thankful I can finally vent to someone like you. God Bless you for the heart of compassion you show. Patty s.
Thanks for covering cataract surgery. I am going to get mid range implants. It is supposed to clear up far vision and some mid range. I have never had to wear glasses, until around 6 years ago and that is only for reading. I do have macular degeneration. I understand it is not good for this problem to get the high end implant because they decrease the amount of light that hits the retina. Could you cover the types of implants suggested for specific eye disease please?
Judy, I ve been through surgery for cataracts on both eyes. I wasn’t given an option. So glad you’re aware of what’s going to happen. Idk if you have DED however if you do, please get it under control prior to surgery. Good luck! Patty
Thanks Dr. D for the video, I am going to share this with my mom. Also, can you share the exact clear frame stands on your shelf? Would love to store my sunglasses on a stand like yours, but the ones I've tried are not that sturdy or tend to tip over if not careful :(

Yes! For all the multifocal implant options, patient selection is really important but depending on your needs at near, they can be wonderful!
But he didn't explain medicaly what it means when my eye is turning in on itself so i don't know what it means medicaly
