GRU Airport Connections: From T2 Domestic to T3 International

  • Arriving at Guarulhos International Airport (GRU/SBGR) and getting off from a domestic flight at gate 235, in terminal 2. Then I follow the signs to catch an international connection at terminal 3, a process that has become so much easier after the remodeling at GRU.
    The walk takes 12-15 minutes and everyone is required to clear security before accessing the international area at GRU, even for passengers on domestic-to-international connections. At this time, only same-terminal domestic connections can be done without having to go through security again.

    Hi quick question. If I arrive to terminal 3 from an international flight and I have a international connecting flight at terminal 2. Do I need a transit visa and go through immigration? I will have a separate ticket. will there be a place where i can get the ticket for the second flight?

    • @CarsTrainsPlanes

      Hi. As long as you stay within the international area, you can roam around terminals 2 & 3. You can check out my video on terminal 3 international arrivals here th-cam.com/video/rBqxdG_4Ex8/w-d-xo.html and, at about 2:00, you will see the point to access the international connections check point. I hope this helps!

    Very useful video and this is something I am concerned about. I arrive at terminal 3 ( international flight) then have a flight from Sao Paulo to Argentina 3 hrs later. Will I have enough time to collect my bags, go through immigration, check in my bags for the new flight etc?

    • @CarsTrainsPlanes
      @CarsTrainsPlanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have all of your flights on the same ticket you only have to follow the signs to international transfers (on this link you can see the exact location at around 2:00 into the video th-cam.com/video/rBqxdG_4Ex8/w-d-xo.html) and clear security, so 3 hours is more than enough (actually one hour would do it). If you are flying on separate tickets, you have to clear immigration, customs and security, so it might be a tight connection, especially in case of any delays flying into GRU. 3 hours is the minimum that you need!

      From T3 to T2 it's about 8 minutes walking. When connecting from international to domestic flights you have to transfer the bags yourself, after clearing customs -- just take your bags to the airline's transfers desk after leaving the customs area, going to your left. And yes, there are plenty of places to sit and wait, food concessions and
      airline lounges (usually paid, unless traveling on business or first class).

    Hi! Wondering if anyone can provide some guidance. I'm arriving at GRU Terminal 2 from a domestic flight and departing from Terminal 3 at gate 306 or 324 for an international flight. Both flights are on separate tickets so I wouldn't be able to pass through connection lane. I don't have checked bags and will likely have a mobile boarding pass to avoid the airline counter but will still have to go through departures immigration and TSA. How long will it take from gate to gate under these circumstances?

      @AndresRootsi Hi, I did have my flight. However, I ended up leaving IGU earlier. I was originally going to have almost 3 hours in connecting time, but my departure flight got moved earlier which made my layover only 1 hour and 10 minutes. I knew I wasn't going to make that, so I moved my flight out of IGU to depart earlier.

Is the airport with less travelers due to covid and it can give me more time?

      @lilianaramirez6346 hi! It went well but only bc I decided to change the hour of my flight... I asked to take the flight at 13h instead of 8h because I was too much scared to miss it. The travel between the terminal 2 and the 3rd is really really long and it can take around 20 minutes to reach it. The airport is really huge. But I guess you will have to run a bit... I'm sorry to don't give much encouragement, but it will be fine, just be fast and it will be okay.

    How long does it take to complete transfer? Is there a immigration(or luggage claim)?

    • @CarsTrainsPlanes
      @CarsTrainsPlanes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For domestic-to-international connections you go straight from one area to the other, without going through baggage claim, but there is passport control and security check in the way (the line for the passport control entrance is visible at 0:57 in the video). It took me 12 minutes to go from one terminal to the other, including both checks -- passport and security --, but it can take up to 30 minutes if one walks slowly or if the line for passport control and security is too long.

      On domestic-to-international connections the airline handles the luggage and on international-to-domestic you have to claim your luggage, go through customs and drop your bags at the airline counter.

    • @CarsTrainsPlanes
      @CarsTrainsPlanes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Serían 12-15 minutos, variando de acuerdo a la puerta en donde llegue tu vuelo. Fíjate que si hagas el camino entre el avión y la terminal en autobus o si no tengas el pase de abordaje internacional en manos, estarás obligado a salir del area segura y caminar a la terminal 3 por el area pública, pero eso te debe llevar los mismos 15 minutos.

    I am an Iraqi citizen. I can not enter to Brazil I needs to Visa
    but I just can be in the international zone (Transit zone)
    I am not with me bags. Only handbag
    so How to Get (boarding pass) for LATAM Airlines in (GRU)

      @CarsTrainsPlanes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, there. You can follow the signs to "International Connections" after deplaning. At one point, the international transfers zone is on the left and for immigration you go straight ahead. At international transfers they have staff to help you print your boarding pass. However, please be sure that you baggage will be tagged all the way through to Montevideo, as baggage claim is only accessible AFTER clearing immigration (in which case you'd need a visa). I hope this helps! Have a nice trip!

    • @CarsTrainsPlanes
      @CarsTrainsPlanes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get it. In this case, you have to be sure that your original ticket issued by Turkish includes the flight to Montevideo, so they will give you a temporary boarding pass when you check in at your origin or Istanbul. If it's a complete separate ticket, you should check in to you LATAM flight online, as it opens 72 hours before flight departure -- this is probably the fastest way to clear security (they do have staff though, but it is faster if you have your boarding passes ready).
