  • Loud whine, whistle, code P0171 (Lean Code).
    This is from a failing oil trap which is the PCV system. The oil trap assembly needs replaced. I would suggest FCPEuro.com for your parts. They are covering all parts with a Lifetime Warranty. They carry Genuine Volvo parts at a great price as well as very good aftermarket parts and OE supplier parts!!!
    This is a pretty simple repair... Follow along

    Thanks for the video. I just fixed my 18 xc90 which had exactly the same problem as in the video, loud whistle noise with the too lean P0171 code. I bought a genuine Volvo oil trap. The replacement took me about 30 minutes following this video. It works like a charm and the noise is gone! I tried to reset the check engine light but it was not successful at that time. After driving around with several start/stop cycles the next day, the check engine light became off by itself. I think my car is fixed now so I avoided a trip to Volvo services and saved lots of money. Thank you very much!

    HELP, please! Would this oil trap issue be indicative of any additional issues that would cause our driver's side exhaust to smoke? I followed your advice and replaced the oil trap and the screeching sound went away, but accompanying this issue was white smoke coming from the driver's side exhaust (I am unsure if there was any smoke prior to discovering the oil trap issue but I think I would have noticed it) and after I replaced the oil trap the smoking still persists. This video was so helpful though, thank you. Our 2016 is barely outside of its warranty and we would have gotten a large bill I'm sure had I not replaced this myself. Hoping that the smoke is somehow residual and will subside.

    • @69nitronova
      @69nitronova  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If oil was pushed into the exhaust from the old trap, then it will take a little bit to burn away.

    Is there a torque spec for the bolts? I've watch a few videos and everyone just says " tighten the bolts". Want to make sure since I'm about to take this on and save a few hundred $. Ps. currently our local Volvo dealership charges just under $400 to replace this.

    • @69nitronova
      @69nitronova  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm certain there is. I simply used a 1/4" drive ratchet and snugged the bolts. There is a steel sleeve in the hole of the oil trap where each bolt goes, you'll feel the gasket compress then you'll feel the sleeve hit the engine and stop tightening. I would guess around 70 inch pounds of torque
