There’s two type of fishing poles. Fly fishing rods that don’t have hand cracked reels and spinning reels which are your conventional reels that you crank with your hand to spin the line on the spool. Fly fishing is much harder as you don’t have that set up and instead you have to pull line out manually and cast it. You don’t use baits or lures that make sound or smell to attract fish. You don’t rely on reeling in your life and making it mimic a fish to trigger predator instinct. You literally tie a fly using string and beads to a hook and throw it on top of the water and bunch of times. It’s an art form in which you mimic nature of a big landing on the surface of the water. You are fishing in rivers that are usually clear so you can see the fish sometimes and adjust to make sure it bites. All the humour is about a guy who is a regular fisherman who is used to playing it in easy with lures he could just cast and reel in, or drive his boat while it is on the water to catch fish. He has no patience for these guys who make their own ‘ flies’ and stand in the water because you cannot cast far as a fly fisherman (you have to manually pull the line out). He also cheats by using a Rapala lure when fly fishermen don’t use lures at all. (Rapala is a huge fishing equipment company known for making expensive lures that are designed to catch fish in many conditions )
I’ve taught a few of my buddies how to fly fish throughout the years and it is shockingly similar. Also, A River Runs Through It, is a damn good movie.

@@izaakmoran8181makes sense for steelhead and bigger fish you want to let run a little and pull some line out but for a stream theyre in makes no sense most of the time youre just stripping it back pulling the fish to you.
