My best friend ( long since a victim of suicide) and I played this on repeat in the mid 80's. First as punks than as skins . we had our own squatters club on the south side of Chicago and this song rang true for us as it did for your lot..I have re-listened to this acoustic version on repeat just as many times. Literally brings a tear to my old eyes. Thanks for writing one of the best punk athems of our lives.

One of my fave punk songs. Best track on Punk and Disorderly. Always seemed a suitable tune with all the local venues closing or banning punk gigs. Love this version fella.

I was having such a great time playing at the 'Something Else in the Dean Festival' on the weekend and this was the last song of my set .dunno why I included it but I still play it now and then when the mood takes me .....It's made me immensely proud over the years to see here on TH-cam that it means so much to so many people across the world especially as I still vividly recall writing it all those so many years ago . Hope you enjoy it :)

Well we don′t go there any more
It's boarded up the doors are closed
But you remember those weekend nights
    When everything was alright
Ran by youth somewhere to go
Tell your mates everyone you know
And all the groups you wanted to see
It was something very special for me
And do you know the reason
    Why it all fell through
They got no room for you at all
And do you know the reason
Why it all fell through for you
They got no room for you
Well I could be talking about some where else
Sounds around it′s all the same
What the kids want don't matter one bit
It's something to you they′ll treat you like it
And do you know the reason
    Why it all fell through
They got no room for you at all
And do you know the reason
Why it all fell through for you
They got no room for you
Well it′s all over you've killed the fun
Don′t try and tell me your the caring ones Well it's all over if you wanna know
You don′t give a shit and we already know
And do you know the reason
    Why it all fell through
They got no room for you at all
And do you know the reason
Why it all fell through for you
They got no room for yourself

Saw Miff do this at the Cafe Rene in Gloucester a few years ago - along with some vintage J. Cash, 'Get Over You' by The Undertones and - if memory serves - 'White Man In Hammersmith Palais' by The Clash. Great gig.
'And do you know the reason why it'......... (NRFY) is "still held in such regard by so many people across the world". I think it's because the song's themes - the excitement, energy, hope and camaraderie of youth and like first heartbreak, the loss thereof - are universal. Not only that, but Miff pitches it perfectly; it never steps over into maudlin or angry protest. This is a very rare thing indeed - POIGNANT punk. Try and think of another example!
Also, for me at least, i love that it's greater than the sum of it's parts. NRFY is a simple song and the musicianship is basic (not a criticism!) yet this is an anthemic scorcher and no mistake. What a great melody. And even though you know that inevitable 3rd chord is coming sometime, it still ambushes you when it finally arrives. Makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Superb drumming too Johnny. The best Demob gig i saw was at Malvern Winter Gardens supporting Discharge. They opened with this and Terry let that military drum intro run on for ages to build up the excitement before he came in. Blew me away!

I was 19 when I sang the single...I probably didn't have as much of an accent as I do nowadays ..NRFY was also speeded up after recording for various reasons which shifted the key considerably from the A major I wrote it in and in which it was recorded . ..Consequently I ended up sounding much higher on the record than I did in reality. In truth ? ...back then?... it always really pissed me off that you could seemingly have any accent ... London, Scottish , Birmingham , Northerner , Irish etc etc and that was all apparently ok and cool... but ...not a West Country accent ... a pretty shallow thing I thought back then and still do. The songs the same surely ?. But hey if you want to snigger and laugh you carry on.

@@graemesmith8068 hey no problems mate .... I had the piss taken a fair bit when I was a teenager and started going all over the place to gigs ...still rubs me up a bit if I'm not careful :) Apology completely accepted :) the chords is really straight forward ...It's in and starts in A Major ...then down to E Major then back to A ...the chorus jumps up to D major , then A , then E .......When I wrote it it used to get the little finger dropped off on the E ( I still don;t have a clue what doing that makes the chord ??? diminished??? not a clue :) ) but anyways ...doing that is more noticeable when I play the song on an acoustic than when the band is charging ahead flat out in a the normal version . :) Some folk have learnt it in I think F ???...which makes it awkward to play and is only due to the fact that they've learnt it off the original single which is , as I said ....speeded up ....therefore the key sounds like it's shifted

Cheers for the chords heads up,I find on a lot of tunes from back then,a lot was lost in distortion.Last word,do you play open or bar chords on the studio version?..
