I just got back from the Celebrity Edge 19-26 but we couldn't get very close to the glacier because of fog. It's okay though because the scenery was gorgeous. Thanks for your videos Bussman - you helped me prepare for my amazing trip. I loved every single moment of my wonderful trip on the Edge.
Thanks for the comment, I feel for you……these kind of things can be a big disappointment when expectations are not met……..especially when we plan and spend for the big event…….have a great day! Peace……..
Not sure which date your video was recorded, we were at the Dawes Glacier on the Solstice on May 16th, the captain was able to stop at approx half a mile away from the glacier. The weather was perfect and the glacier was spectacular. We enjoyed it very much. Go Bussman!
This was the first sailing. On the edge, we were at the glacier at the beginning of June 2024……we should have been able to get much closer……weather was perfect, no wind, no storms, clam water……big disappointment…….for a lot of passengers……
Excellent, the glacier visits are a bucket list event for many cruisers who go to Alaska…….would have been nice for the captain to let us know why we could not get any closer to the glacier…….
No announcements were made at all……I did ask several officers in Board, they had no answers either…….many passengers shared a similar opinion to mine…….we were waaaaaay to far away from the glacier to make it worth while…….
I don’t think so, there was only one private charter boat and were so far away from the glacier…….we never did get an explanation why we were so far away…….overall still a good trip!
Agreed, but in this case, the conditions could not have been better, no wind, still water, sun with cloud, an otherwise perfect day. Lots of unhappy cruisers though…….

I was just on Celebrity Edge July 12-19 and we got very close to Dawes Glacier. Apparently we got the closest to Glacier this season so far.

I share your disappointment! Great video as per usual! Go Bussman go!
Thanks! Much appreciated…….
Of course the private excursion got closer…that’s the point and the boats are made for it. Did the Captain say why they didn’t get closer?
No announcements were made at all……I did ask several officers in Board, they had no answers either…….many passengers shared a similar opinion to mine…….we were waaaaaay to far away from the glacier to make it worth while…….
Maybe they couldn't get close due to the private tours ongoing at the same time the ship was arriving at the glacier?

Don’t think so……at the Hubbard glacier we got very close and the private tours had no effect on that…….
This happens all the time. Conditions set how close a big ship can get into there safely.
Agreed, but in this case, the conditions could not have been better, no wind, still water, sun with cloud, an otherwise perfect day. Lots of unhappy cruisers though…….
