Nope, its not scared, that breed is guardian, thats why it just dont sleep all day like most breeds would, it`s alert and i would hate to be person that goes there without owners. That cage and claw marks on bedroom door just ad up, if you can`t train your dog, don`t put in small cage in night, just build nice big outside enclosure for it, yep and it would enjoy it when you are out of house.

My dog actually enjoyed watching new york 1 news when i left. I found that he often roamed around my room and sat looking at the tv on the bed. He also bites my teddy bear but didnt play with it when i was there. Only when i was away. Also he probably liked the sounds the ny1 channel made i think. Real attentive at the sounds of the changing news segments. It pleased him.

They are good tips like using a special toy for the dog only when you leavr your home. And when you come back you put the toy away. Poor baby.....I had a rottie-girl who I adopted and fell madly in love with when she was 3. Her WORST fear in life, was me leaving to run a necessary errand! She never got over that. I do believe that all rotts are HOGS!!! When I first adopted her (a couple weeks in), I brought home 2 pizzas for dinner. I went to put the laundry away away (about 3 minutes) and in that time she'd grabbed and eaten 1 large pizza, and hid the other--sans the box)under the leather sofa. Pizza sauce smeared all over her face. She passed away from cancer Aug 20, 2019 and I am still so broken hearted. I will always have such a soft spot for rotties!!!! I wish I could love on this guy for awhile ....

@Yvonne Breezy We've got a female Rottie at the house. She's great with my kid cousin aged 5-9 since we've gotten her as a pup. They're very much guardians of the pack - sweet as can be to those they know and trust, but any strangers that come near/in the house she will try to scare off or be aggressive towards, and it takes a few times for her to get used to someone new, like a friend coming over. Though usually if we show her they're alright and let them give her a treat, she gets the hint and settles down.
If you do end up getting one, my biggest advice is to socialize them and train them as much as you can, especially at a young age. Take them to a dog park, and if you can afford it, find a good trainer. They can be a handful I hear if they aren't trained well early, but thankfully she's well trained and listens very well. They can also get a bit aggressive with other dogs, especially near the house, unless they're part of the pack or they've been well socialized at dog parks. They're an awesome breed, but they do take a lot of time and effort early on, because once they get big aint nobody bossing them around otherwise. Hope any of this helps!
Edit - Oh, and one more thing - males and females do have temperament and size differences. I haven't had any male rotties so I cant compare, but I hear females are a bit more docile than the males, and her head and body mess is definitely smaller than we expected. She's got a slimmer head than the massive adorable fatheads that male rotties can get.

The panting & especially the howling is separation anxiety. He is calling you. My Rottie used to do it as well until we got another dog, then he only did it if somebody took her out without him.

Mine have access to the backyard when we leave, they don't feel so anxious or break things inside the house thanks to that.
The owners could leave an open window or something for him to smell and see what happens outside, that relaxes them; but that place is dark, small and closed, not weird that he feels trapped there.

My family had a Rottweiler when I was growing up. She was a great dog, they appear viscous, but they're actually gentle. Plus they're great with kids, intelligent, loyal and great protectors.

Dogs actually have cleaner mouths than we do, they have healing enzymes in their saliva, which is more than we can say for us!!

Thomas Bommer You are so right about the quality of the water which is so sad. Nasty stuff brought back the memory of my two foster puppies i had. I was horrified that they were eating their poop. My mentor at the rescue told me why..which made perfect sense. Then i got my introduction to worms. I was lucky because one lady took in a pregnant momma and looked after her and pups when born. Lets say I didn't want spaghetti for a long long time.
S holy crap you are so right. It may not smell nice when a dog wants to give you a kiss after cleaning him/herself but i know if you have a booboo then can help it more often then not.
I recorded and did the same to my rottweiler and found it so sad to watch, i ended up getting another rottweiler so they could entertain each other during my work hours!!!!

I remember one night, I saw My dog drinking from the toilet at night time, and I said to Her quietly... "Kara, are You drinking from toilet? Go back to bed!", and I was hoping that the toilet was flushed, and as a bonus, the toilet was recently cleaned, and I was like thanking God out of relief when I asked Mummy!!! 😅😅😅

After watching this, it really made me conscious about dogs being pack animals. I mean we know, but this makes it real for us. Now I'm thinking, if an owner needs to leave their dog alone for more than a few hours a day, they should have another dog for the company.

why is everyone bashing the owners? like the dog has multiple comfy spots he can lay, he probably has a water bowl he just prefers drinking from the toilet. a lot of dogs are like that. &’ he probably has toys aswell he’s just not playing with them. y’all don’t realize this is basically exactly what every other dog does when their owner leaves? cmon guys the dog is fine.

My favorite breed of dogs. I was raised by one when i was 5. The last gift my dad got me for my birthday before leaving us and then it died after 13 years and now I have another German rottie who is getting old going on 12 years . Love these loyal dogs! Protect you with their life but always think they are a lapdog even when they are 115lbs...... take up half the bed and eats better than we do lol. Looking for another one soon....
Real Richmond Hi RR, i totally agree! My dear friend, then eleven, passed SEVENTEEN years ago and I miss her still... The saying is, just before they pass, they almost learn to speak. Rottweilers need a lot of work from the day one BUT if the owner understands, what kind of breed he/she has chosen, it doesn’t feel work at all! And, after 2-3 years, they are, till the end, sssooo easy and loyal. Once a lapdog, and when 50-60kg too😊 All the best to your friend!

Real Richmond I had one too. He found us on the street. I say found us because he walked right up to us and sat down like he knew us and belonged to us. He was the prettiest thing I had ever seen. I knew he belonged to someone else but I wasn’t gonna try and find out. He followed us home and stayed for ten years before I had to put him to sleep. I had my first baby and everything. He was protective of her. Man I miss that dog.
This is why whenever I left my dog home I left the TV on.
I like when he looks around the house to see everything is ok like patrolling. I feel bad when he is left alone and was like why you leave me alone. Funny part when he drinks from the toilet. At least some dogs like toilet water. Close the lids folks before you leave home. He's smart for open his cage.
It’s unfortunate to say but it’s very endearing watching him have an anxiety attack, just shows how much dogs and in particular this one just loves you guys

Aaawww he's a beautiful boy! Reminds me of my big boy that I lost in early 2019, he was nearly 13years old. When I would leave him alone he would lay on the couch and on the bed with he's head on the pillows like a person lol I really miss him😢
