Yes, this is a very small thing, but these small things making HxH the best shonen ever. The first few seconds of this ending acts like a good last sentence at the end of a chapter in a book, which summarized the situation and sets the tone for the future.

The fact Meruem never faced Gon or Killua the entire arc is just amazing to me..you would think the protagonist would be the one who defeats the bad guy but HxH says otherwise

@@jamiebonilla6538 Everyone cries at that part. It is indescribably sad. It's probably the most I've ever cried for a piece of fiction in my entire life. I've rewatched the scene 5 times with 5 different friends (tho far more with my solo rewatches) I got to watch Hunter x Hunter and every single time the call is pure silence during this scene and for a good 1 or 2 minutes afterwards. Without fail, each of them teared up at this scene. Every single rewatch I tear up. I know it's coming, it still gets me every time. It is simply masterfully done. A masterful story by Oda, and a masterful adaptation by Madhouse.

The first time komugi appears it's in the ending so it's soooo hype to speculate how she relates to the Ant King. When I first watched the ending I thought that she was maybe a trump card of the Hunter Association with a rare nen ability that could counter his sheer power and the entire arc would surround the two strategically pitting their forces against each other to create an opening for one to kill the other _(which is what I thought the board game aesthetic was symbolizing)_
That being said, Togashi-san really surpassed my, and everyone else's, expectations with how the two characters fates are intertwined.
You can enjoy HxH more when you realize it's different from most shounen series in that it's not a power level numbers battle. One commenter on Disqus made the wonderful analogy by stating HxH was a power politics battle ecosystem. Chimera Ant fiddles with this idea with introducing an antagonist so powerful you can only realistically defeat him through sabotage. The Chairman election arc leans more on the politics side in that each player is trying to manipulate the odds in their favor; and the Dark Continent arc... my LORD is it the cumulative result of Togashi-san's writing style. I can't wait to see how it plays out, it's like Chimera Ant's spiritual successor.

One of the best endings in anime. 0:26 this part right here. If you just look it as an anime thing you wont see it but that scene is actually extremely deep, and shows very well what this arc is all about: how no matter how powerful and evolved the ants can be, they are still no match for even the weakest humans. And later the King understands it even better in his fight against Netero, where he loses not to a single human but to a weapon created by humanity. The Chimera Ants never stood a chance...
King Of Bel Actually you got it quite wrong. It’s about questioning humanity and whether or not it’s best or not. While you got that from it, it’s really a throw off easy message anyone can assume. Really that part shows how Meurem is discovering more and more to not being a ruthless king thanks to playing with that girl with every game they play and she wins. She never represented humanity, because who really represented that in this arc is Gon, but a blockade he couldn’t beat because he wasn’t actually a “human” with no good at all and through the understanding of what it truly means to be one he didn’t really wanted to beat her and just had fun at the final hours. Or at least this is my best interpretation of what this arc is truly about
@@wackyman1770 no he didnt got it wrong nor did you. The arc didn't have one single message about humanity but multiple layers represented by every single one character of the arc, ants and humans alike.
The fact that the ants, depsite their crazy nen abilities ended up dying because of a chemical weapon and that Netero, the incarnation of the ultimate martial artist, had to use it in order to achieve his goal says what it says.
It may seem cliché but it was one of the aspects of the arc, humans most fearful weapon is their intellect and their treacherous nature and at the end of the day they ended up crushing them as the ants they were despite all the raw dreadful power they had.

I used to see hunter hunter 1999 versión on tv everyday when i woke up but i didn't give it much thought and didn't Pay attention to the story. I only decided to read the story from beginning to finish last year. I'm on My seventh reread already.
This was me last week. I put off because I assumed it was gonna be some kid friendly adventure anime, kinda like Pokémon. Anyways, I’ve never cried so hard over fiction in my life.
