At around the same time, she had another duet with Tom Petty called Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. That's worth reacting to too.

"In a parallel universe, this song doesn't exist and her child does." Dude! You broke me. But I think you are right. It feels like Stevie Nicks and the rest of Fleetwood Mac went through a lot of hell to bring us such powerful music.

Stevie Nicks got a call from Waylon Jennings asking her to write a song for him and his wife, Jesse Colter, to sing as a duet. Leather and Lace was the name of their album. They talked about the struggles of this lifestyle, touring, and keeping a relationship. Stevie was struggling writing it, and her and Don would collaborate on it when he was home. By the time it was finally finished, about a year, Waylon and Jesse had split up. Waylon still wanted to record it, but Stevie said only four people could sing it. Waylon and Jesse, or her and Don. They had poured so much of themselves into the writing, that they decided to record it. Stevie said it then became one of the biggest hit ballads. Thank you, Waylon😎

I was coming to say the same thing. Waylon and Jesse didn't split though. They worked through it and remained together until the day Waylon died.

After the eagles broke up, Henley, Fry and the others got clean. When they decided to get back together, it was was Walsh who was still in terrible shape. Don and Glen told him he could return if he was clean. They waited until he was finished with rehab. He credits them for his recovery and still being alive. Ironically, Glen was the first to die, from cancer.

I was born with dirt between my toes, but my husband was born solidly on asphalt. For our first date he came to my house for supper. He "never walked out the door." That was 35 years ago. We still live out in the country, we're still in love, and we're still happy. I love this song.

What a beautiful story I'm going on 14 years with my husband we're the same age from same neighborhood and grew up together as small children swimming in local pool and playing in local parks. I went to private school him public we were friends like broth and sister inseparable! Until life happens our parents both got divorced he moved to Florida I to Staten Island in about 9th grade loosing touch. I moved into the house nextdoor to my mom's in my 30s and got off the bus one day with a stranger we walked and talked he said I used to know a girl who lived in this street me oh yeah I grew up on this street. Who was she he said her name was Beth XYZ I said that's me what's your name he didn't answer he made me show him my driver's license so me trying to prove a point I show him still not knowing who he was he picked me up hugging me tightly whispering to himself I've waited for you forever. I finally found out as he was hugging me who he was. The hug was like that of a movie. I couldn't believe it. Now 14 years later we're together and have a 12 year old daughter named Lily the same name we talked about as children when playing house together...

Stevie's vocals are so good. She has that lower pitch for a female combined with so much vibrato that brings an extra emotional element to her singing. Don Henley balances that out very well in this performance.
I'm glad she had a choice about whether to have a baby during a time that allowed her to have that choice. I'm also glad that you are able to appreciate that this is often times the dilemma for anyone when confronted with parenthood, but does naturally affect females more immediately and directly. These sorts of things are never as simple and clear cut as some people try to make them out to be.

She wrote this song when she and Henley were together and recorded it after they broke up. She said when she was writing it she’d bring a little bit to him and say what do ya think and he’d say ‘it’s ok’ which pushed her to make it even better until he said ‘yeah, it’s good’ she actually wrote it for Waylon Jennings and Jesse Colter but they broke up and Waylon wanted to sing it alone and she was like no it needs to be a duet. So she called her ex Henley and asked him to come sing it for her first solo album.

The album “Bella Donna” (1981) is Stevie’s first solo project and a great success with the release of 4 hit singles (this being 1 of them) but I suggest you hit these 4 that were not released as singles from the album, “Bella Donna”, "Kind of Woman”, "Think About It” and "How Still My Love”. In those days it was dark too. And yet for most it was just sex, drugs, and music. Many lost a great deal. Especially women. Men played and women paid. Maybe the drugs did damage to the fetus and needed to ... We learned a lot of lessons in our lives.

The TV show "Cold Case" used this song in the closing montage in an episode about a young girl who had been murdered years before. I can’t hear this without seeing the "ghost" of the girl standing by the tree and smiling at the detective - one of the best visuals of "thank you for finding the truth" from this series. Due to music rights, it may not be available on recordings, however.

I love this song… I never knew the backstory. I think it should really be up to individuals to decide. I appreciate any woman who decides that having children isn’t for her rather than being pressured by society or family to do so.. No one should be forced to have a child that they don’t want , or can’t afford to have.. On the flipside I feel like anybody who does desperately want a child and can’t have one, breaks my heart and I wish it would be easier for them to get IVF or adopt.

Love for you to do the song Rhiannon LIVE, not the radio cut, changed stevies voice to a lower register. She stated singing that song ,the ending, live shredded her vocal chords. She absolutely sings the $hit out of that ending, and you can hear her voice and Lindsey's guitar competing to dominate. She said they tried to get her a voice coach and train her voice, but it just didn't work. Im glad it didn't if it would have resulted in changing it.

Don grew up in Linden, Texas. A town of approximately 1800. Everyone knows Don is an extremely difficult person. He is well known for holding life long grudges. Due to some of these grudges, it’s assumed, that’s the reason he’s bought most of downtown Linden and refused to perform any upkeep. Downtown is a ghost town of empty stores that are desperately in need of repair.

BP, the rumor is that the Eagles song " Victim Of Love" was written about Don Henley's time with the ladies in the 70's. Check it out.

Great tune! Joe on the talk box, but I love the use of delay even more. Just love the tone of the guitars too. Impossible to not sing along with the chorus. 🔥

      @joelhammond4162 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

Actually, it was Those Shoes that featured Joe on talkbox, this has the slap delay on rhythm and the lead slide solo. Both heavier songs for the Eagles, but that was that rock edginess and grit the Walsh brought to the group. A little more electrified rock and less acoustic California country.

Stevie is a fairy, a Sorceress, a Witch, a Goddess - whatever you call her, she is enchanting. ( Her song "Enchanted" is a lot of fun, too.) She said at one point that she "didn't come here to be somebody's mommy, (she) came here to be a poet." I really respect her for that. Unwanted children live miserable lives, no matter how wealthy their family might be. It takes strength, especially for a woman in this culture, to know that you are not interested in parenting a child. It's not selfish, as many would assume, it's clarity and kindness not to bring a child into the world if that's not what you want. Mothering is a sacred thing, not to be taken lightly. It is a sacrifice that should only be made willingly. It's too hard to do it well if one is not motivated and it's too important to do it half-assed.

Well said! Raising children is the hardest job on the planet, to grow a healthy rounded human being is a beautiful but hard as hell thing to do. I admire those who are up for the task, and those that “know” they aren’t.

I knew someone who had a child she didn't want. She didn't know she was pregnant until she was in labor. (Yes. It does happen; I witnessed seeing her days before she went into delivery.) Her family didn't believe her when she told them she didn't want the baby and she left the hospital without her. The family made her go back and get her. The infant was a failure to thrive baby because of her birth mother's emotional neglect. The baby was fed and kept clean but wasn't held. That's when the child's grandmother took over her care. It was a mess because grandmother was soon diagnosed with a brain tumor and the birth mother ended up being diagnosed bipolar. The child is an adult now but doesn't know the story of her birth. But she does know that there's a secret the family won't share with her. One day she will know. Then what? It is never good to have or keep an unwanted child.

Stevie has stated in several interviews that if she were to have a child it would take 2 years out of Fleetwood Mac schedule and they were really hot at the time. And she did not want to take that time out at that time. I too have not had any children and I know these priorities work. The song was not written for them. She wrote the song for Waylon Jennings. One of my favorites. So real.

RIP…. JD Souther passed away today! Great song writer for The Eagles in late 60s.
Just FYI…. Below is a list of relationships for Stevie Nicks, who also had a relationship with JD Souther.
    Relationships
Nicks dated the Eagles' drummer and vocalist Don Henley. She had an affair with Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood while in a relationship with Henley.
Stevie Nicks was previously married to Kim Anderson (1) (1983 - 1984).
    Stevie Nicks has been in relationships with Rupert Hine (1988 - 1989), Joe Walsh (1983 - 1986), Jimmy Iovine (1980 - 1983), JD Souther (1977), Mick Fleetwood (1977 - 1978), Don Henley (1976 - 1978), Lindsey Buckingham (1971 - 1976), Waddy Wachtel, Jerry Brown and Paul Fishkin.
That’s only until 1990. Wonder what the next 30 years were like. 🤔🤔🤔
