      some of the classiest people ive ever met were people from Cameroon, Ethiopia and Senegal.
      There are two main groups of black Americans. Redneck black americans and bourgoise black people.
      The former group is where you get super racist assholes like the lady in this video. They heard some dumbassed shit from some student of malcom x or farrakan and they think they know something. They always act like they are being oppressed even when they become wealthy. They do conniving hateful shit and feel no shame for it.

      Thats what i say. The thing is braids were not only a black thing native Americans haved it and the vikings is Native American from Mexico we are a little bit different from American native Americans we build muscle very fast and our hair is not thats straight because of the jungles in Mexico but we naturally can get dreadlocks and braids easy. But afro Americans are so sensetive because they have nothing to be proud of. I grew up in Europe and my friends were from somalia senegal morroco etc and we didn’t care only Americans care about that greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽👋

      I used to get my hair braided all the time when I was a teenager. It was always black girls that did my hair so I definitely acknowledge that was a hairstyle from their culture because I really didn't know any white girls who knew how to braid like that but back then nobody ever accused me of being disrespectful for wearing my hair that way or accuse the girls who did my hair of being disrespectful for doing it that way. @@randomgeekcrapyea it is. The speaker in the video is saying that about all white people with braids… there are some light skinned people (their skin is white) and they know more about braids because it IS a part of their culture… now is this common, no, but still possible and real! Not every white person with braids and locks are just doing it because black people are doing it and that’s trendy to be light skinned and act like you’re dark skinned (which is a very disgusting trend. I know damn well dark skin people do not have it the same way light skin people have it in the United States of America and I’m not gonna try and act like that’s the case, if you’re lighter here you’ll be treated better out in public because racism still exists and from all kinds- not everyone is, but every race has their group of racists) and saying all light skinned people with braids are this and that… that’s racist! That’s like a white girl saying any black person with wigs or straightened hair or weaves are this or that… THATS RACIST! It’s just fucking hair. I understand why braids and locks are used with certain types of hair BUT if someone wants to straighten or braid their hair… WHATS THE PROBLEM?! if the hairstyle is not safe for *their* hair, it’s only gonna damage their hair, not yours, so why do you care?
      I’m not saying the person I’m responding to cares about hair like the speaker in the video. I was just pointing out that the speaker is still saying racist shit. She might not be acting violent on it (which is great considering most people get violent when being racist) and I’m also *not* saying that the speaker is racist… But their mindset on this specific topic is.

      @lreneewell9154 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Usually I hate the comparison of a white person wearing braids to a black person straightening their hair, but wording it like that, there's a point cuz straightening your hair can cause damage, but usually only if you do it too often or you use too much heat. Long as we avoid doing those two things we're fine. Honestly same with braids, sometimes it's more about how you care for them than your texture, because some black people also can damage their hair from wearing braids if braiders do them too tight (reason why my mom does mine and we don't do added hair) also. Though the thing about straight hair is that it is usually not as thick, so it's more prone to that kind of damage. Honestly my standpoint is as long as you aren't doing it disrespectfully (wearing them while still disrespecting black people and disrespecting their hair) and actually take the time to find someone who would actually know how to do braids in your texture and learn how to care for them, it's ok. I just hate when white people use our culture as a form of imitation and try to take credit for things we created. Then it is actually is appropriation.

      It's rise in popularity in recent years is most likely due to its association with black culture. Therefore people are not farfetched to associate it with what it is most evidently in relation to, whoch is black people. Nonetheless....
      Culture appropriation is the inappropriate, ignorant, or disrespectful adaptation of a culture. If you were to portray a fraudulent performance of what you take them for, or mock them and their experiences by using something they hold dear such as a hairstyle, then it would be culture appropriation. As well as an uneducated representation of another culture to which one may also make fictitious, sometimes personal, claims. Especially to then be dismissive of the very same people you appropriated. It is not simply wearing something. That is the belief of a few overprotective, culturally close-minded, individuals. Most believe otherwise. Be yourself, be respectful, educate yourself, and embrace other cultures.

      Same. 🙌🏻 It's funny too, cause I do braid my hair occasionally when doing yard work or farming, which, I'd like, is why they were popularized in the first place. Worldwide? It makes it easier to wash and less dirty and gross. So it's strange that she'd gate keep it, I bet she gate keeps her wanna-be southern accent rebranded as AAVE too. I bet she would flip coming to the South and seeing a bunch of black, white, and Asian folks just minding their own business, all living together in harmony, where basically everyone has an accent that AAVE was based off of. Goodness, 😳 but, I can pretty much live life peacefully knowing that she probably doesn't act like this in real life and that she's certainly never coming down to the deep dirty south.

Braids can be found in many cultures, but dreads and many other braids were invented in Africa and a prevalent part of the culture and, when you start taking away from the people and claiming they came from Scandinavia that’s where the issues begin. Let me educate this person…..They are called “Dutch Braids.” They came from way back in the Nordic times. White Viking men wore them. They are not from the black culture. You cannot proclaim something to be off limits to everyone outside your culture because your people invented it, especially if it’s not a fact.
    If you don’t believe me, research it for yourself.
    Imagine the world where we could only utilize inventions or discoveries by our own culture. For example: Ben Franklin discovered electricity. He has always been portrayed as a white man. So electricity would be accessible to whites only. That makes as much sense as DUTCH (not African) braids can only be worn by black peoples. How messed up would that be?
    Things from all cultures are to be shared and celebrated by all. This helps to unite us.
    Some don’t want be united. They are comfortable playing the victim. Shame, we have much to teach one another and much to learn from each other.

    As a black girl, any race here can have any hairstyle they want as long as it’s achievable. And personally I don’t have any problem with other races such as white using our hairstyles. But you’ll have to be a little more careful bc I’m not saying all white people have thin hair, but some do and if you have thin hair you’ll really have to be careful when doing braids and tightening them because when tightening especially on thin hair can pull the hair and causes too much tension and could potentially fall off. Now I’m definitely not saying you shouldn’t get braids, but be VERY careful and have a professional do it. (Sorry for this school paragraph I typed in) 😅
