In this episode, we continue our push up North in Vietnam to reach our goal of getting from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi in less than 3 weeks. In this episode, we find ourselves still exploring rural Vietnam and find ourselves in some eye-opening places and have our first run-in with the Vietnamese police. All while, showing what people are missing out on by sticking to the conventional tourist route through Vietnam.

You guys make amazing video. I am Vietnamese but never done anything like this. Vietnamese people in countryside are very friendly and open to foreigners even though with the language baring. People in countryside they don’t speak english and they rarely see foreigners people that why they always say hello and smile at you guys that is just the way they show their welcoming, and more important they are must more friendly than people are living in the city. With the police most of the time they will stop trucks or cars for “money”. When they stopped you and let you go because they don’t speak english ( whenever you see cops just ride slow don’t make eyes contact until you pass them). Can’t wait to see more video about your trip in Vietnam. Have fun and safe on your trip, wish you all the best.

I found when I did the north of Vietnam two years ago that I had a LOT of head turns, stares, and mouths gaping too, partly being foreigner, partly a women on a bike alone, but a lot because of being a redhead. It is not seen to them, the kids were very, very transparent with their fascination, wanting to touch my head all of the time. They are likely looking at your redhair!
Thanks for going that route, I had been debating it for my return trip in April 2024, now I know it is do-able and beautiful! Thanks

Hi Jammy Gits, I’m going on tour for 2 months, Dec and Jan, I’ve looked at Africa and south east Asia, your trip is making me want to do Vietnam. It looks amazing, I did Thailand about 10 year ago and that was amazing, I love your vids and it’s great to hear your Northern accents on here, as a Derbyshire man living in Buckingham it makes me feel at home. Thanks for the input you 2 have put in, maybe I will start filming my trips again. 👍🏼🙏🏼

You seem to be lovely, natural down to earth people. I've enjoyed watching your video.
I recommend diving into the experience. There are lots things that I could recommend. Foodwise ... when you're near the sea - gilled fresh squid "muc nuong" washed down with some beer "bia". Grilled pork loin pre marinated in fish sauce and soy sauce. Thit heo = pork. "Nuong" - grilled
Vietnamese are generally friendly, lovely and warm hearted. If you try to speak to them in Vietnamese, they will be delighted. And they will want to practice their English with you.

I used to have to remind myself that it was a real country, not some Disney "Motorcycle Land". I bought a good pillow to ride on, caused some laughs from friends but those seats are for 30min trips not cross country! You couldn't wish for a better country to motorcycle in especially on the little roads often 1 lane. If you really get on the small stuff unfortunately google maps fades to a light grey uselessness in the sun. Best wishes! PS there is a really cool cultural exhibit in The Pleiku area but i never got the name. We found it just wandering around the area.

The cops in Vietnam usually set up “check points” on busy roads. Before you actually reach the main checkpoint, they already have other groups hiding somewhere 1-2km away to measure your speed and photograph your license plate if you are speeding. Then they will stop you at the checkpoints but I guess you guys weren’t going over the limit that much so they let you off 🎉

you were stopped because they thought you were Vietnamese. they would stop people, and you can either pay a bribe or they would threaten harsher punishment for whatever violation they deem you committed. they let you go because they couldn't bother with the language barrier and explaining to you how things should work (vs the people who live there that already know what to do when they stop them)
