Whistle is one of those songs that I can listen in repeat and not get tired of it. It’s on my study playlist, driving playlist, gym playlist… all my playlists! 😂 💕
personally, knowing them from Odd Eye, I didn't notice how they changed over time since the beginning. but when learning about them, I was getting further and deeper in love with them. they were hard on the music tones in the early days, partly I think because of establishing their sound. I think it is great that they decided to adventure more on other genres and going on softer and brighter tones. i love every songs they made. seriously a rare feat. not one dislike about one song by them. i can't say this for other groups even for my beloved Mamamoo.
What I saw from fellow Insomnia on this album (specifically BEcause) was "this is how Dreamcatcher does cute. They're adorable but are holding a knife creepily" lol
Airplane is one of a few Dreamcatcher songs that remind me of f(x) - the others are Together and Some Love. Also, f(x) has a song called Airplane! And Dreamcatcher covered the f(x) song Goodbye Summer around the release time of Summer Holiday. When this album came out I think most people saw it as standalone and not connected to previous storylines, although the MV for BEcause is drawn from the movie Us. Also, I remember I lot of hope that since it was during a relative down time that BECause would get Dreamcatcher their first win, but that would have to wait for the next album and Maison.
Whistle actually has a choreo! They first surprised us with it in the Midnight Circus online concert, they then proceeded to say that was the last time that they would do that choreo. But then they surprised us again when they performed it at the Broken Halloween concert😭. There should be videos of them performing it if you’re interested
BEcause was really one of Dreamcatcher's career highlight moments. The Summer of '21 was the moment they used the success of Dystopia to release something spectacular. This bright album hid (in plain sight!) a horror song talking about obsesion, insanity and murder and had an MV based on Jordan Peele's "Us". People were so shocked when the subtitles came out, 10 days later! At first, many thought it was a cute love song! That's Dreamcatcher for you! Also, Airplane was the last song that Dreamcatcher performed at Primavera Sound 2022. In the morning of the show, Dreamcatcher were stranded in Munich, with no chance of getting a connecting flight, because of cancellations due to bad weather. So the event managers sent a luxurious private jet to pick them up and fly them to Barcelona in style! To thank them, Dreamcatcher ended the show with Airplane, instead of their usual encore of the time, New Days or 4Memory.

Our show in Chicago earlier this year was the only one outside of Korea to get a lil performance of “Whistle”. I felt so hyped and lucky. Underrated album imo.

Whistle- one of my top 3 b-sides and I was stoked when they performed it during Midnight Halloween circus with choreography. Jiu wrote AllDayLong and the inspiration was getting a Yoohyeon hug when she was having a bad time. Yoohyeon also wrote part of AllDayLong too. I am pretty sure Siyeon is listed in the credits for BEcause, Airplane and A Heart of Sunflower in the album. A Heart of Sunflower is one of my top 5 ballads. BEcause fits into DC’s creepy title mvs and the inspiration being US movie is also on brand. Some misses the Scream, Boca, break the wall, mayday, wake up, nightmare era rock. And others enjoyed it. I enjoyed it, but then again myself and many other Insomnia believe they can pull of any sound/vide/genre… and I will listen to almost any genre, but especially when it’s DC that does it. For me this was also a Special album so if it deviated from the normal sound from Nightmare and. Dystopia it would not be bad. Like how Raid of Dream sort of deviated form the Nirghtmare sound since that album had been a Kings Raid collab.
I love that they get somewhat of a say in their content. Like... with Minx they had to be cute and adorable and happy or something like that because they HAD to. But at this point in their journey, they get a say. When you see them performing this song live (Airplane), they look like they are having so much fun with it. They can do cute, adorable, cheery and sweet ON THEIR OWN TERMS and thats the main thing isnt it. That they are able to explore all this genres. ALLDAYLONG goes in Somnia history as THE JIYOO song, since Jiu said she wrote it being inspired by a hug Yoohyeon gave her when she was feeling upset 🥹😭 I enjoy EDM a lot and Deukae having this songs that have this element and that they hype the crowd so much at concerts.. THEY ARE AMAZING 🙌 They have very good ballads. A Heart of a Sunflower, Rainy Days, Always... 😭😭😭
i love the album a lot, but overall a good amount of the fandom were skeptical before its release with all the teasers and articles. A lot of people were worried that they'd stray away from their usual sound, especially for the title, whilst the other ones believed that they wouldn't stray from their darker sounds (which they of course didn't with because). You have those people for every comeback though, worried that they caved and went more mainstream, cause the teasers look or sound too bright, and yet dc always prove them wrong, so i was never too worried. For the album as a whole, the fandom knows that they like trying different genres, so it was pretty well received overall, of course you got people not liking one song or another, but overall it was just your usual dc album. Airplane is the only song where i'd say a lot of people still don't really like it, i often see it sparking discussions
BEcause, by far is the darkest Dreamcatcher song in my opinion, lyrically. And also unique musicality, BEcause it has duality vibe in it. The light side & the dark side.

At the time there was definitely a part of the fandom which was a bit sad at the departure from their jrock era (chase me - fly high, maybe up to piri if you stretch it). Summer holiday was the first album that didn't really feature any "real" rock song as a bside so some fans that love that side of dreamcatcher were understandably a bit disappointed, this was followed by maison which was another title track that didn't really capture those fans and the bsides there also didn't really have much rock (apart from dami's solo) so there was a bit of a sense of dreamcatcher drifting more towards a mainstream sound which left some fans upset. On the other side there are a lot of fans that really love these two albums and how they took a bit of a break from their core sound to explore a bit more of other genres and sounds. Most of the fans that were disappointed in this album and maison have come back around now though, since the release of reason and bon voyage seems to have shown them that the core dreamcatcher sound is still very much there.

If you haven't already please watch live performances for these songs. Whistle has an iconic choreo and the ladies were laid back and cute for the other songs. JiU vibing to Alldaylong is so healing to watch! I'm a former ballad hater and love them now but it was a long process getting here. Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher have been changing how I listen to ballads by helping me to ignore the words and focus on the vocals. My favorite Korean singer is Wheein and it's hard to be her fan and not like ballads.😂 Ballad instrumentals can be great but many are subdued so that you focus on the voice as an instrument. One reason I feel like people dislike ballads is that they're a moment of vulnerability from the artist saying "Please listen to my voice and feel what I'm trying to convey." and if you just listened to a really hype song it can be tough or undesirable to change your mental state. We look away when someone we don't know is crying and ballads are like that.
From the few somnies that I know, the response to the album wasn't really that great especially with the diverse range of song genre on the B-sides. Personally for me though, this album is one of my fav of all time and for the same reasons you mentioned at the end. The way they arranged the songs, it feels like they really take you on a journey. yeahh most of the metalheads are upset about it but there are some who are very open minded about it and were so excited too, but like the other majority are very excited about the album at the time (inc myself since I love it when DC explore more sounds)
Not surprising. I’m not someone who thinks every single song by my favourite artists is amazing, though i love that for people who do haha, so I get not vibing with a pop/edm-heavy album if metal is much more your thing and wouldn’t fault someone for that. But like you said, I don’t feel that way about this album because I love it!!

Alldaylong is my goto song to release stress, to get a restart on any given day. It's another brilliant b-side from Dreamcatcher! I loved this album on release day as I do now. For me only Airplane is not a top song as I find it a little bit too cutesy for my taste.
"Airplane" sounds like a song Red Velvet would release. DC having an actual kpop song is a nice plot twist lol But it's so funny that they released a dark edm/rock banger as their summer title track for their special summer album instead of a bright summer song... and then they literally had a bright summer song sitting there as a bside😂
yeahhh, Sunflower is by far their best ballad!! and I love Because, so just between those two tracks, this album is great, even if Airplane feels a little too much out of DCs realm

BEcause's concept is honestly imo, their best concept. Way more creepier of a concept than the Nightmare series, again imo.
