Many viewers will be surprised by what influence this simple Bamboo house design had on the world of Architecture; American Architect and Engineer William Le Baron Jenney visited the Philippines for 3 months in 1850. He noticed that during a storm, the Nipa Hut structures were very "light and flexible". It only dances and sways through the storm. This inspired him to copy the flexibility of the frame of the Nipa hut. In 1879, he built the first lighter building. In 1884, he built the Home Insurance Building in Chicago, the first metal-framed skyscraper in United States. Because of this, he became known as "The Father of Modern American Skyscrapers", which became the model of all the modern skyscrapers in the world.

I built myself a house for my brother in law. Amazing how other around where looking at my "different" approach to construction. Meaning 4 by 8 plywood and also good planks. Total 745$. I am also so amazed by the skills of Filipinos builders....What you showed is craftsmanship Very good video!
after buying, upgrade... i think its fairly easy to put insulation,wirings, wall, cealing add better flooring (for rats, and bugs) to really make it a home =)

Those would be good rentals , plus you can put all electrical kitchen, with a fridge hot plate and toaster oven, all ya need , maybe put a gas BBQ outside
I really like the big one also. I would change the layout though. I think there is wasted space. There could be a full bathroom and closet space. It would make for a great one bedroom cottage or studio apartment. I would think that if these prices are the same by the time I return to the Philippines, I will consider purchasing a number of these, finish the inside with solid walls and it should cost me about 100,000P to 150,000P. I'm glad I found this video. Hope you do updates so I can keep up with the cost. It would also be interesting if they would consider adding my design changes?

Another wonderful video... Love that 60k house too. I'm assuming all the bamboo was pre-leached before use to fully protect it for years to come. As mentioned, yeah to install it on concrete columns (and retreat it for added protection) would surely make it a great semi-outdoor home. Lovely :)
Charles Hueckstaedt......I do not think there is a set answer to your question. Much of the durability would depend upon the heat, humidity, storms, bugs, wear and tear and how the Bamboo Hut was stabilized to the foundation. It also depends on how many family members live there and how they take care of the maintenance of their home. Direct sunlight or shade will have a great influence on its durability as well. Normally, it is the roof that needs replacement first, based on its exposure to the elements. It would be nice if the Government would offer community workshops or pamphlets on the proper care of this type home, so that the homeowners could put this information to good use. If I was to have one made, I believe I would stipulate that both sides of all stripped bamboo be varnished. I would also raise the Hut far enough off the ground to allow access to the bottom, stability, proper maintenance and reapplication of varnish or whatever was needed to make this home last longer. They are a thing of beauty to look at upon completion.

In the U.S. a lot of local colleges/universities offer adult continuing education classes. If you want to learn basic welding, gardening, home repair, auto repair, computer skills, beekeeping or almost anything there are usually evening or night classes available. Our house and fence made of bamboo but I remember my Tatay has to always build or replace it every few years due to weather. He also used coconut tree mixed with concrete for the foundation of our house. After 30 years house still standing. Just reality in life....the owner (late parents) gone but the house still there standing. Check out also my bro has a resort there and one of these rental houses still standing. At yun namang bubong, puwede munang lagyan ng plywood panel na spray painted ng fire retardant bago ilagay yung nasa ibabaw? Di ko alam ang tawag sa grass na yun. Kasi barrier yung plywood sa dila ng aswang. :)

They can build it on site for you, they can show you their standard designs and how many days to finish and they also do your own design if you have one, and like the owner said you can negotiate the onsite build prices

I am under the impression they bring the sections and some materials to build it on site. As confirmed by local people who also make bamboo structures.

I have no idea, if bought one I would put it on concrete columns, and use metal termite guards and solignum the lower portion myself.
