Hey great setup. Dont know if you have done your mod to raytech yet, I know im 2 year late, but the way I would do is to either have one made at a machine shop out of aluminum or buy heavy duty thick walled aluminum tubing with the same diameter as the collet drill two holes one to lock the new collet in place and one to lock the dop to it. You drill the holes the same size as the screw then you have to tap them with a tap and die set. and there you go. good luck.
Just a suggestion but you can add an extension to the dops . little hobby lathe face off the dops drill and tap. Add an extension with the same threads as the raytech on the back. You make them the same length.
Aren't the dops held tight after tightening the nut on back od dop? Doesn't that secure the dop without movement? I understand it doesn't solve your other dop problem but the dop shouldn't move after tightening nut. I ask because I'm considering this machine.
yes it does lock it tight, but there is an add-on collar which allows you to adjust the position/notch of location pin on dop to position stone and align, that fits over end of quill, i make them too. gemmakermz@cs.com
both depending on what you want to do. exotic and museum, collector stones the ultra tec. stones on a more production bases the raytech/shaw. with a riser platform very large stones can be cut on the ultra where as about 30mm is max on raytech. after cutting for 54 yrs these two machines are the only ones i recommend and longest lasting with accuracy.
LoL it's been a while since this was made but a friend of mine does make the collars so you can use other dops in the raytech

the little two allen collar can be replaced with a extended collar to use a regular dop with.
hello.
where i can buy a raytech as yours...and how much it in $ ?
they run $1950 new and $1200 used usually.
It sounds like you have both, an Ultra-tech faceter and the Raytech Shaw. Which one is better and easier to use?
