Brother Halverson I personally have listened to others teach and I feel like they simply read and then say a generic reply. You are what I've longed for. Someone that does indepth dives and verse by verse study. I'm 38 and started listening just after you did Jacob. I have learned more in these short years than in all my life before hand. I feel many are like me and want to understand and learn.

O, to grow and have Grace attained
    Thank you, Brother Halverson, for
    The Mercy
    The Peace
    And the Light
Which Thou dost bestow from on High.
You answered a question I have had for a long time in my life, since I learned on my mission about the Prophets and Apostles being paid. I’ve never doubted, simply continued on in Faith and knowledge that it would be told me sometime. Thank you for revealing it by the gift of Prophecy; I am grateful for your Faith. Good luck, and continue on😁

1 Corinthians 8:13 and the idea you gave to fill in the blanks has made an impact on me this week. It will help me as I move forward. I thank you for this inspiring message. 1 Corinthians 10:13 also struck me as I went back to the times that I should have run and didn't. I was deeply affected for many years mentally and spiritually. I love the quote by President Boyd K. Packer. Peace Be With you and your family.

Hi Brother Halverson, here is my take on titles and fast offerings - in Malachi, Chapter 3:10, we are commanded to give 10% of our increase to the Lord. 100% of our increase is because of his love and grace toward us, so we get to keep 90% to do what we want and need. After paying my tithe/fast offering, I give not a wit of concern regarding what is done with that money, not a wit. I have done what has been asked of me and by doing so, my heart is happy!

I really enjoy your perspectives. I have learned a lot in the few shorts weeks since I had a friend recommend your podcast as a supplement to my Come Follow Me study.
I have a very different view and experience with going to the Babylonian BBQ. I grew up and lived outside of Utah for most of my career and that does make a some difference in this . Going out to happy hours, team events, work functions, etc. that happen to be at a bar or that serve alcohol ended up being very good opportunities to be a good influence on those around me and provided opportunities to share my beliefs with those who knew little about my faith. Two things that stood out to me as evidence of the good that came from being there:
First others felt less social pressure to engage in drinking because they would not be the only one not drinking. I know this because several times someone would say something like, 'I am so glad you are here, I did not want to drink tonight and did not want to be the only one not drinking'. There is a lot of social pressure around drinking which is why I can see your perspective on not attending these kinds of events when you might struggle with this temptation or have a concern with how it might look (but if you are outspoken in a respectful way you can mitigate the 'appearance').
Secondly, those who knew me would speak up sometimes before even I could when someone offered to get me a drink. They would literally jump in before I could say anything and say, "He does not drink", and when I think of the recent lessons from Paul, I recognize with greater appreciation the love that their act represents. By saying "He does not drink", they we saying don't pressure him because we have too much respect for his beliefs. These people knew I did not judge them for their choices and they did not despise me for my standards.
I only present this to point out that there is more than one thing to consider when choosing to or not to attend a "Babylonian BBQ". there is a contrary to prove here. We must weigh the good vs the bad of attending events with both those not of our faith in mind and those of our faith who might be there too.

Brother Jared….as I have been on the path of repentance, I have been so focused upon my own steps that it is very easy to overlook how others view me,. Like you have mentioned, I cannot control another’s thinking. But now, I can clearly see that my efforts to be the Lords disciple need to readily show that this is my true intention. To think of leading someone to the very hole from which I have been lifted from, now, is a light within my purpose, and the lighted way before me.
The power of charity, is the power from the Lords own ❤️…..we all need one another along the true path homeward. Once again my good brother, Thank you for your dedication to building faith in the Lord😇❤️. David

I started in the kitchen and moved to working in the office. It was wonderful. to be in the House of Lord for so many years. It didn't make me rich, but the feeling of being there for 8 or more hours a day was unbelievable.. I was able to meet several General Authorities and even got to know President Nelson.

As a teenager out of HighSchool and on my way to a Church College at the end of the summer, I found myself coming on waitress duty right after my Bishop and other community leaders had been served their meal. My job was to wait on the table to assure the men had everything they needed, including filling the coffee cups everyone at the table had and were drinking from. Thankfully, one of the men declared I would have to make a special trip to the kitchen to fill one cup with Hot Chocolate. I was relieved by the joke and embarrassed as I had worried about filling my Bishop’s cup! I still wished he would have avoided the very appearance of evil!

Timing is everything! Toward the end of chapter 9 discussion, in discussing priestcrafts, Jared said something like, "be careful of those anti-Mormon websites, that are always interrupted by commercials." He hadn't finished the sentence, when a commercial interrupted him. Immediately after the commercial, it cut back to him, saying, "Be careful". Funny. This comment is not meant to by cynical. Just gave me a chuckle that's all.
I love the work you do, Jared. I discovered your videos toward the very end of the Book of Mormon year, and have followed them ever since. I used to listen while driving, or on walks, but have discovered that I get more out of it when I study my scriptures daily, with your commentary, pausing, replaying, and striving to understand your take. I'm grateful that you are willing to take the time to go verse by verse, and likewise grateful I am at a place in my life where I can spend an hour or more daily in the scriptures.

Brother Halverson, When you were talking about the “Babylonian BBQ” made me think about a video I watched by an evangelical Christian, who refused to take sacrament in a meeting house because with water she felt it was wrong. As I understand, and please correct me if I’m wrong. Using water instead of wine is part of the word of wisdom. We don’t drink alcoholic beverages because while some may be able to do so without it getting out of hand, others can’t. Why is it that thinking of your brother in Christ something that can and should be done? Talking about callings that you wouldn’t ask for resonated with me so much. I’m struggling with my current calling.

Cause two boys were sitting together and saw some girls coming and they didn’t look any further because they remembered the nest or something about birds and then they laughed together and we’re proud of themselves for not glancing further? I’m trying to find that lesson that I think was you or possibly another speaker.

A thought came to me this day as you were talking about stumbling blocks. It seems to me that we as Latter-day Saints may make a stumbling block for new converts when it comes to the Word of Wisdom. Converts learn of the Word of Wisdom and expect certain things from us...but when they join us in our ward parties where meat is served every time and meat barbecues are served all summer. It doesn't quite match the wording for meat to be used "sparingly". Very confusing.

Hi Jared, thank you for your videos, have been watching since it started. I have heard (please correct if wrong anyone) that general authorities have a living allowance of 150K/year. Along with this allowance, they get a housing, auto, cell phone coverage along with full benefits. These allowances continue until death even during emeritus status. If this is true, I'm not sure this would be considered meager.

If we were in a physical class together, I imagine that we'd know and love each other really well as brother and sister in the gospel by now. I, too have been here since the beginning.
It's harder to have a discussion online because we can't look into each other's eyes with love and use kind voices. And a lot of times online discussions become very contentious and hurtful for this reason.
I can't stop thinking about this comment you made, and because you're an unshaken saint, I imagine that this is something that has bothered you.
I have a lot of things that I wrestle with the Lord about, so I get it. But since this isn't one of them, maybe I can help in the spirit of love.
I look at the lifestyle that these people live. In my opinion, the greatest majority (if not all of them) have consecrated their lives to the kingdom of God. They're fully aware that they're using sacred funds. Even emeritus status usually means that they're now "only" serving as temple president, etc. They and their families sacrifice a lot.
I think Satan likes to play with numbers and use whatever he can to plant seeds of doubt in the hearts and minds of unshaken saints. In some parts of the country and some professions, these figures sound like untold excesses of riches. For some, it would be enough to be comfortable. For many of them I suspect it's a "pay deduction" that they decline because they don't need it. I liked what Bro. Hal said about it being an equalizer so that our leadership is not just made up of wealthy people who can afford to serve full time.
I hope this helped a little. Love from Utah.

Considered meager compared to what? Most GA's have reached retirement age by the time of their calling. Now they are being asked to give up all their retirement plans, prepare to be away from home almost every weekend of the year, and be a top manager of a huge corporation. Do you know of any manager of a major charitable organization who would take on the job if they were offered only $150K? If you do, then maybe your objection would have some legs.

My friends don't invite me 😂because the party might get out of hand lols, my friends say we need to keep Mary on the right path, lols. Besides, she might not even be happy lols. 😂
Let me add, when I was 18 and had returned to the church just starting to learn what the Gospel was all about, by the time I was 19 years old my Bishop called me in and asked me to help the young adult I was living with and her roommate, because she lost her job on top of already paying rent the my Bishop asked me to buy the groceries and what these sisters I lived needed. Now just think I at 19 needed to support 2 other Sisters and one had a child, that alone could have chased me out of the church, but the spirit was strong and I obeyed my Bishop because believed and trusted Heavenly Father.
Do you think these two Sister gave it a second thought what they put into the basket of course not lols, however spiritually I was obedient to my Bishop I gave it to Heavenly Father he knew what my needs were. I was so fresh to the Gospel, I guess I saw alot of biblical movies so I guess I was seasoned 😅😂

Here is my issue with the "don't go to the party, who knows who is there" part is it seems to contradict the express example of the Savior who did eat with sinners and unclean. I understand Paul is trying to negotiate a tricky situation but I feel that between Paul's advice and Jesus' example, I think more weight ought to be given to Jesus' example.

Can you point me to a website that expolores the income of anti-mormon organizations? I'm not very savvy when it comes to looking up things on the web.

Ever lived with someone with narcissistic personality disorder? Which is the psychology world's way of saying they lack all empathy for others, are totally self-centered and selfish, do not love others, choose to lie about virtually everything, take actual pleasure in hurting others, are deliberately cruel, sadistic, and abusive, and deliberately try to destroy you. I have. Ever watched as they destroyed your "eternal" family in a way that means it can never be an eternal family together? I have. Ever watched as they destroyed your child? I have. Ever tried to tell church members they were destroying your family and child and just been called a liar and refused help? I have. I was raised in the church and have heard all my life that Christ loves us equally and we're all the same to him. Really? No discernment or differentiation between us at all? We're all completely equal, no matter what we do? Why bother to be a decent person? Do I care if their sensibilities are offended? No, I do not. Do I want to see them in the next life? No, I do not. Do I hope they succeed? Absolutely not. Do I want Christ to save them? Nope. Have you ever encountered a truly evil person? I have. I have no desire whatsoever for them to continue. The church is clueless about evil. It bleats about how much you "learn" from this. There are things it does not benefit you to learn.

There's a challenge I see with how this dances atound being an offense, or easily offended, and how this may well be tied back to Matt 7:1-3. I think you're using Roman's here to justify passive aggressive conflict avoidance rather than allowing for more direct interaction. At a Libertarian candidate meeting with Presidential candidate Gary Johnson at a downtown club I was a bit "showy" with my running mate. I asked the bar tender for a mix of cranberry and orange juice and held it up to toast asking for his and my running mates verification that there was no alcohol in that drink. At other occassions were any to ask I had no problem answering, or getting someone else to verify my drink.
It's unhealthy and irrational to govern myself based upon what others may, or may not assume of my actions or character. It's no different for the glass in my hand, or the woman's dress, or skirt. There's a persistent need for civility, charity, & benefit of the doubt, in all directions.
In some Elders Quorum lessons points poetions I considered absurd I noted such, a bit of a nervous laugh, and then opened up the lesson to more discussion about why something was absurd...
Well Bishop I went to the party and said "I'll have whatever Jared Halverson is having and I got Long Island ice tea... the Jared beguiled me and I did drink!" Well the Bartender actually just served Jared Halverson from a different company part all together and hadn't served the CES Jared Halverson so it's really my fault for a number of bad assumptions. 🤔🤔 How does one fairly draw that line between bad assumptions and "charity?" How would this relate to Jesus rebuke where that which we eat doesn't defile us but what we say?🤔
You always get me thinking. Often it's about pulling the lesson topics together- especially where the ideas have the greatest dissonance.
