  • This video looks at the proposed mechanism for the Sonogashira coupling reaction. This mechanism does not include arrow pushing; rather, it examines the factors that influence the formation of various hypothesized intermediates.

    1 day till the exam and you have saved my life. Why I pay £9000 a year for lecturers to teach me is BEYONDDD ME because they DO NOT explain it like this.

    Isn't it for the terminal alkyne that you've got a carbon carbon triple bond and than one of the carbon's of the alkyne is bound with an H group and the other one is bound with the R2 group? I see when you are doing the transmetalation step (2) you are not fully taking the alkyne thats bound to the copper. For my view you are transferring a C bound to an R2 with a triple bond with the metalation and idk why but didn't you forget an extra carbon at this step, because now the C of the triple bond is bound to an R2 group and not to a C. I hope it's understandable, but it brings confusion

    Check out some of the work by McIndoe and Ahmadi on the Sonogashira mechanism - I think they go into some detail regarding the transmetallation step via MS analysis of the transient intermediates.

    ma'am why the H2O molecule not attacking the positive charge on the carbon atom?

  • @pharmacyera3421

    But why Iodide is specially better than other halides?, although if we are talking in terms of electron density on the adjacent carbon we will find that Chloride for example is better in activating the carbon for oxidative addition.

      There are different scales for electronegativity, so it would depend on the scale you were referencing. The number I am most familiar with is 2.2

      Hi Aman. Are you looking for a video that discussed the differences or for specific examples?

      Difference

    • @sarahchem4219
      @sarahchem4219  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gotcha. Essentially concerted reactions happen in one step and non-concerted happen over a series of steps.

    • @amanrubey
      @amanrubey 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ohh
      Correct me if I am wrong,
      In concerted mechanism → breaking and formation of bonds take simultaneously whereas in non concerted reaction intermediates are formed

      In chemistry practicals ,I struggle a lot .for the past two years I am just pretending that I know what to do but in reality I have no idea what I am doing,I mean I don't know what has been given and what I did and what I got ,I am just blank when it comes to practicals .So please make a video on that too(that is a brief of chemistry practicals) so that my interest could be generated in this too

      Hi Guarav, I have made the first ozonolysis video (I am going to follow it up with one that looks at some components of the mechanism, but I will only be able to record that, hopefully, next week. Hope this one helps for now:
