When I moved to NYC almost 15 years ago (wow, time flies!) I was fortunate enough to study briefly with the great living-legend Reggie Workman (shout out to the New School fam) who, if you don’t know already, toured with many legends like Art Blakey and John Coltrane. In his ensemble class, Reggie would describe the energy of playing with Coltrane’s quartet as like stirring a pot, and he would gesture in a way that was mystical and dramatic. What Coltrane did to take his music into a spiritual realm has had a profound impact on culture that truly goes beyond words. Grateful that I got to experience the wisdom of someone so deeply connected to his music.

Chad is on a saxophonic mission which is the reincarnation 🎷 of the great masters, so to say.❤

This had a power somewhere between Michael and Mephistopheles. The lighting was right on, the band was perfectly in tune and balanced and yet menacing, you were brilliant, and both you and your man on the piano sublimely mixing between the melodic and the percussive, and loved the extended phrasing. The first rhing i did after listening to this was listen again, just out of pure enjoyment.... Always a good sign. What a terrific rendition; I may even have to revisit some bad habits to enjoy eith this one! 😂🎉❤

Beautiful! The swing/be-bop phrasing feel of the piano and sax solos gives a nuance different from the original. Maybe a little more "down to earth."

I was counting on interesting sounds and innovative solutions. I didn't hear it in either the pianist's or the saxophonist's solo. Where to follow the melody. Why can't you go beyond tonal harmony and listen to each other? Such musicians should introduce new solutions. It couldn't even compare to Chick Corea's Three Quartets. Not to mention the development of Coltrane's music. So you have a long school ahead of you. Music, music and more music has to come first here, so follow it. For now, music is serving you. You are the ones who have to serve the music. Then maybe you can play some music.
