  • Beyoncé and JAY-Z dropped their collaborative album 'Everything is Love' out of nowhere on Saturday, June 16. Featuring shots at Spotify, the Grammys, and the Super Bowl Halftime Show, the nine-track LP immediately became a topic of conversation. To discuss the momentous event, host Rob Markman brought in Genius' senior artist relations manager Mikey Fresh and senior news producer Hillary Crosley-Coker on the latest episode of 'For the Record.'

    People are so used to dumbed down lyrics they can't understand the art. The concept is they are premiere artist that they can't be quantified. When the mona lisa was painted it took x amount of years to be celebrated. And so many bars go over the heads of the younger generation they won't get until it 20+ years later.

    • @mxxmm4365
      @mxxmm4365 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old people are so focused on lyrics that they forget that concepts, vision and mainly the SOUND matters. For someone who has films on the username and that references Mona Lisa you dont know about art. Jean-Michel Basquiat for example wasnt about the "lyrics", there is a concept and a language that goes with it. Same thing for today's music. Illmatic is a classic mainly because of the poetry, Mystic Styles is a classic because of the groundbreaking sounds, this trash Eminem is making is not. "Dumbed down" lyrics are not really dumbed down they just have a different approach to their art just like Classicism is different from Cubism. Dumbass.

    I'm a hardcore Beyoncé stan and a little bit of a fan of Jay-Z but I never really love *Everything is Love* at first, maybe I was forced to like it but as time passed, I realized it was a really good album. The arrangements, harmonies, bars, atmosphere, the genre mix-ups, etc. It is outstanding. It is still better than all the trap crap we get from other artists though.

    I listened to the album and I really enjoyed it. I feel that it wasn't meant to be too complex or deep. Both Beyoncé and Jay already have given us "depth" but the kind of fun that Beyoncé, specifically, was having reminded me of the kind of fun she was having with "B'Day". That kind of fun, expressive energy. What I will say is that this album is VERY current and extremely "right now". I think that was on purpose. The album was crafted for the tour, On the Run II. I like Bey having fun and not being too intense the way she was on Lemonade. Jay was being Jay. He flexed extremely hard all over this. It's different from "4:44". I like that.

    Im just amazed by how social media is so judgemental when jay and B and are trying to show Black excellence, how black familys can work through a struggle and come out on top, this the problem with our society, they do so much for the community and all kids of every color.. Enjoy this be blessed we still have older Icons putting out Good grown music and still appealing to the youth, are they suppose grow old and die off? Who gives any of you the right to just flat out hate... I love Black Excellence... Cash them checks jay and B ill be doing the same while the these haters live on...

      See the annoying part is when it's an artist you like it's "inspirational" "black excellence". If you just heard a migos song, they would get criticized for being materialistic. Let's be real, Beyonce and Jay Z just flexed like stereotypical rappers do on this project. Let's not turn it into some fake woke shit about how they are so inspirational, nah.

      tdestantoomuch TDE doesnt even come close, they released Redemption which sounds kinda generic specially considering how great Jay Rock's previous album was. Black Panther soundtrack sonically fits the concept of the movie, interesting, some boldness to it but it is not that forward, experimental and so on... it was better than the movie itself though.

      trey doe how is it sounding like its tryna be hip when no rappers on the radio are making records like Summer, 713, Black Effect or Love Happy? No one else is bringing back hard knocking, soul samples & vocals to Hip Hop right now. 3 songs on the album sound like whats on the radio and if they didn't have them songs I guarantee y'all would be complaining how B&J are old & washed

Like what you'll doing now? So girl please! This album say Fu*k that!! Secondly, people use their life in their art all the time!!

    They keep deleting my comments. This roundtable lacks in-depth knowledge and discussion about music, they are extremely biased too. This Jay Z album is generic pop billboard hot garbage, nobody will remember, talk about or study this album in 20 years.

      I feel like this album was more so to show the younger gen that they can make current music also, moreso w/ Apeshit and Heard about us. I'm positive they didn't make the album to be a think piece lol they just having fun. Black Effect, 713, and Boss go really hard tho imo. Not everything gotta be a think piece tbh but that's just me.
