I learned how to do this after Mythbusters had an episode on it and the trick I found was having a snap-like motion at the end of your throwing motion. Throwing it full armed like a frisbee can work, but I don't think it gets as much force into the card.
Read Cards as Weapons by Ricky Jay. And maybe go with stiffer cards, some cardistry decks are great especially stuff from NDO and Jaspas. They’re like wood they’re so snappy
fun story here we used to trade and gamble with collectors soccer cards when I was a child and we had a game called"wiitwurf" which roughly translates to "long shot" and me and a competitor throw the cards as far away as we can in a agreed direction and whoever throwed it further was able to keep both thrown cards! The tecnique explained by him was some other kids used but they rarely won in those competitions!
Best way that works for me is starting with the card parallel to ur face the big surface area of either side facing towards the direction where you look at, and by using the same pinching method u drive your hand all the way down to a horizontal throw just like u showed in the video
There’s another way they could do it is the middle third and second knuckle on your finger in the middle of it. Use your pointer finger and your middle finger. Put the corner of the card and just throw it works really well.
There are actually ways to increase the power a bit further. If you grab the card in a way that the long edge is the one that's gonna cut through the air first, instead of the short edge, you can get some more leverage, if that makes sense, and increase the power of your throws. You can also grab the corner between your index and middle finger. It might be a bit tricky and requires some time to get used to, but it's a technique that has a lot more power. It's fun and surprisingly simple once you work out how to throw them. Actually hitting targets is the hard part, sadly. lol
I use a technique where I just hold the end of the card between my index and middle finger, then flick it out in a similar motion to you. No need to use the thumb at all. I find it interesting that there's different ways to throw a card dangerously.
Next, you could try to learn the skill of how to store water in the stomach like a camel. One magician whose name I cannot remember learned it from an African guy but instead of water the magician used fuel which he would blow out and set fire.

You should learn different card tricks like shuffles or ‘magic’ tricks with cards!
