  • Keeping the water clean through water changes.
    The amount and frequency of water changes depend on your tank size, the kind of filter, and the amount of bioload.
    You're welcome to comment or ask me any questions.

    is it OK to use ground water for fh.
    does waterhardness causes any problem.
    what can I do about it????

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you might want to do a ph check on your ground water. if it's around 7 or so, it should be ok. b/c ground water has no buffers, if the tank isn't cycled, ph can drop faster than tap water. so, my opinion is that you gotta do more frequent water changes, especially if the tank isn't completely cycled. cycling a tank completely usually takes something like 2 months depending on your filter size. what I would do is periodically check your ph to see for how long the ph level holds in your tank.

    hello i really like your videos and they are really informative! so I see you keep yours in a relatively small tank compared to what most people suggest. I currently have one that is roughly over 2 inch and i have him in a 55 but i am wondering if i can keep him in a 10 while he grows out. the reason why im considering so is because i want to groom him and i think keeping him in a a 10 would be more interesting since i believe it brings out that attitude in them. I have good filtration system and i would be really diligent with water changes. what are your thoughs? one reason i am still doubting on doing is that i dont want to stunt his growth by keeping him in the 10.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea, you can keep him in a 10g until he gets bigger. just keep the water clean. Only way you'll stunt his growth is by having poor water quality and feeding too little/inferior food imo. if you're gonna move him to the 10, I would use 100% of the water from the 55 to the 10, and move some of the filter media you have in the 55 to the 10 also.

    Hey man my flower horn is going to through growth spurt and settle ,i moved him to a 55 g tank wider ,and have a 60 g overhead sump but the tank is not clean his pop is all over the bottom of the tank,the water is pretty clean ,i have to do water change 3 days once now or no his pop is full in the tank,suggest me to get a best filter that will work for me ,the pump is on the left sight of the tank (corner)and the return is on right sight (up sight the tank but got gap in the corner,tank size 36 length ,18 wide,15 water depth (inch)

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      for the poop at the bottom, you can use a siphon. you can use the kind that I made : th-cam.com/video/-CFWwsQ3KNs/w-d-xo.html
      or a regular one that they sell. overhead filters are very good. just use lots of filter media instead of sponge. congrats on your new big tank!

    My flower horn who is 5 to 6 months old was doing fine but yesterday when power went off and came back after more than 5 hours, since then he is hiding behind the filter and not eating anything even not a single pellet.. behaving very awkwardly.. he is not lying on the bottom but also not coming at the surface as well. He is just spending his time near bottom while hiding behing the filter..not showing any interest in any stimuli..
    I have performed a partial water change as same was not done for quite long..
    Any one who faced similar issue may share his experience.
    Suggestions will b much appreciated.

      He got spooked. When water flow stops for a long time, the fish sometimes get very scared. Yea, do 50% water change and feed him something really tasty like frozen bloodworms. He'll come around. Depending on the flowerhorn, it could be a few days to a week or two.

Right now he is on fasting for 2 days and will get his brunch by tomorrow as he was eating very well before this incidence so i think fasting will not have any adverse effect upon him..

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the usual water change is once a week. but if you only have one small fh in a 75, you could probably go 2weeks ~ 1 month without water change. but, it's not exact. if you have a test kit, it would probably give you a better idea. but safe thing to do is probably 10% water change a week.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really hard to say without knowing more details. If you just got your fh, it can take a month or more for him to get settled in completely. As long as he's eating well, and pooping well, and doesn't freak out or get scared too often, he will return to his usual color. Just keep up with water changes and leave him alone for a week or so. Don't get too close to the tank if he gets scared. If he gets scared often, get him a hiding spot like a ceramic pot.

      any wound on a fish will heal. but if it's infected, it's difficult to heal on its own. your water has to be very clean and he's gotta eat nutritious foods for it to heal on its own. if it doesn't heal on its own, then you gotta atleast use antibacterial medicine.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If he's using his mouth to move the gravel, that's normal. but if he's scratching his body on the gravel, that means he's got external parasites. you gotta use external parasite medicine. it's very common. pretty easily cured.

      just a simple de-chlorinator. it also removes heavy metals. you gotta find out if your tap has chlorine or chloramine and get water conditioner accordingly.

    Hello!.. My flowerhorn's skin is peeled .. It happened after a weekly 40% water change ....I had dechlorinated the water before adding it to the tank.. water parameters are all good and also my fish scratches itself a lot after water changes... Can you help me on this ?
    Why does my flowerhorn scratches after water change and is the peeled skin of it due to his scratching???..
    Please help

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yea, if your fh scratches or behaves differently after water changes, that could mean your dechlorinator might not be very good. you might want to try a different brand, or add much more. sometimes the water company adds extra chlorine during very dry days, or during very rainy days. if his skin is peeled due to injury, if your water quality is good, it'll heal on its own. don't use medication for now. see if it starts to heal in a few days. if it starts get better in a few days, just leave him alone.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a very long time without food. there could be many reasons why your fh doesn't eat. also, when changing water, use plenty of de-chlorinator and match the temperature of the new water to your tank's water. he might have internal parasites or internal bacterial infection. it's just a guess since I've never seen your fh. might need to use internal parasite medicine. also, try live mealworms or frozen bloodworms. if he doesn't even eat that, then you gotta use the medicine. but again, without seeing your fh, it's just a guess.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it all depends on how big your tank is and how much chlorine is in your tap. the safest way is to use a bucket for the new water and add dechlorinator in the bucket only, stir very well, then add the water to your main tank. that's the way I do it with all my tanks.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, turn off the light at night. When changing the water, you must add dechlorinator. It's best to dechlorinate the water in a separate bucket before adding it to your tank. PUt water in a bucket, put in dechlorinator(aquarium water conditioner), stir it around for 10 seconds or so, then put it in your tank.

      +Foo the Flowerhorn What is the minimum size for a flowerhorn tank?? I'm trying to separate my other flowerhorn from my 75 gallon tank and i'm out of space.

      IMO, minimum should be around 55g for a full grown fh.

      it's hard to say without seeing your fh and without know your setup and his history. but try 75% water change. make sure to match the temperature of the new water to your tank's water, and use plenty of de-chlorinator. see if that helps.

    Thanks man and the hole is about 1 month and seems to be curing very slow ,in how long if it does not cure i need to use medicine ,and my tank start to establish and less pop but will continue the 3 days once 10%water change until he cure,by the way its just 40 g i calculated wrongly😅😅

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      if the hole is healing on its own, then just keep the water very clean. but if it gets bigger or stays the same, I think you should use medicine.

      Try a big water change like 75% and use lots of dechlorinator. See if that helps in a few days.

      high fluctuations in temperature can make your flowerhorn sick in the long run. flowerhorn's tank should be minimum 26°C. get a thermometer for your tank and see what the temperature is.
