You can make a 4 strokes power band just as high or higher then your average 2 stroke! It is a matter of the engineer doing it. Back in 1998 yamaha built a 400cc 4 stroke that rev limits at 12,000. Way more reliable then a comparable 2 stroke that only ran up to 9000 rpms! It can be done without a problem! The 2 stroke power peeked at 7500 rpms while the 4 stroke pulled right to the 12,000 rpms! I have ran this engine as much as i could at the rev limiter since 2002! Still never have touched that engine.
rpms are not the issue as that can be solved with proper gearing. the main issue with 4 stroke is that they are heavier and require a bit more maintenance.
Great video! I'm a homeowner who likes to dabble in jobs around the house, so these videos are dangerous for me to watch- but my son and I enjoyed watching! Please keep up the good work!
Stan - What's your opinion of the dust control technology? I'd be worried about long term reliability of that equipment because of what looks like a lot of plastic connections. I can see that breaking after the first week in the back of a trailer, much less on the job site in hard (read: careless) use.
Those rubber boots won't last long, and the proprietary filters will cost a bomb. All good for the company's consumable revenue. Still, it meets a need and someone will soon make mods that will suit high usage applications.
It's not just about regulations! Why would you want to clean up over and over all kinds of dusts if you can avoid it? Drill something in your garage or basement during renovations etc. If I do some repairs in my apartment and I have to constantly clean as I go to prevent dust accumulating... I'm no expert but I see productivity gains!
Can you review the Makita Fogger and Blower combo? I’m inclined to buy given the multi purpose use. Mosquitos in my area are savages and having this Fogger with blower combo would be ideal. Only issue is the high cost.
Tool shows and trade conventions are often interesting videos, and my vote is to see more from your channel in the future. I enjoy seeing some of the special/pro application tools like the portable road, but especially the great tweaks to existing tools which open up different realms of applications. The beam saw attachment, for example, offers itself to many applications and disciplines if one doesn't have a need for, say, the huge Makita beam cutter circular saw, portable sawmill, etc. These types of tools can spark ideas and imagination, and I enjoy hearing how they look, feel, and perform in the flesh. Thanks for the fun videos and keep 'em coming!
I worked for a Stingray boats from 88 to 95. We used Makita cordless drill. They were awsome. Had 9 volt batteries. They took serious abuse. Had one that dropped in fiberglass resin. Took it out of the resin cleaned it with acetone. It was running 4 years later when I left the company.

That trimmer head is junk. I worked at a summer job repairing lawn equipment a couple years ago and a local golf course bought two of them. Greg Dumpert personally no. But for somebody who builds boat docks and where tools might get dropped under water, a submersion test for electronics is a lot harder to pass than just being splash resistant. Most of he conformal coatings that cover the speed control boards in these tools to protect them from basic dust and corrosion is enough to be splash proof.
