Gu Dongmae already accepted that he will never be fit for Aeshin. He just want to show his love in his own, complex way which was often misunderstood and it caused him to hate himself more. when he visited Aeshin's parents, he said that "it wont go anywhere, because it's me." still, he clung in vain hope- everytime he encounter Aeshin, he searched for the hope ("you keep giving me hope like this", "you keep saving me like this") when Aeshin slapped him and told him to live misearbly, he took that not as a curse but a hope that means Aeshin wanted him to live. Basically, his lifeline was Aeshin. She's the reason why he was able to survive his miserable life and came back to Joseon for her, and he knew that he would die for her cause, too. Just like what the head og Musin Society said, Dongmae loved Aeshin more than his life when he never even lived his own. Dongmae was the first one and the longest to love Aeshin so i felt sad when he said that he felt like someone (Eugene¿ or was it Huiseong) cutted in line when he never even had a chance. But there's no way to weigh the love of the three and tell who's better for Aeshin. They all shiwed their love in their own way, Dongmae devoted his life for Aeshin when he chose to turn against his own society to protect Aeshin. Huiseong gave her up because he love her and risked his family line. Eugene risked his title and also his life in the end for her.
I am so fascinated how you caught all of the subtle emotions and feelings of the characters that might have been understood only by native speakers. As i finished watching the drama for the second time, i was able to see the things that i have missed when i first watched. I think thats why i still cant get out of Mr.Sunshine😝
I just finished watching Mr. Sunshine. And I found this. But I still don't understand why Gu Dong Mae said "Aeshin is just a spoiled and stupid noble" He said that he chose those words very carefully to hurt Aeshin. why did he do that? even though he really loves Ae Shin.
@@dianauralina204 because he was just jealous with her, as a child who came from the bottom of his world to a child from a nobel family. His envy about himself makes him hurt other people as defense. he also love Aeshin as his saviour, that make his envy even stronger (his life was in a nobel girl's hand). he was hoping one day he could be with her, but his envy was too strong so he has to pull her down (by belittle her: mock her, lift her dress, cut her hair...)

Watching this show seriously did something. It was no longer about the love story and triangles. There was no villain and there was no hero. Everyone tried to survive and had their own struggles. Watching this just broke me.
This is the first ost of Mr Sunshine that I searched. Everytime this song was played, there must be heart touching + sad scenes 😭😭 this drama surely leaves an impact to us 🤧
When this song played in the background of one of the scenes with Dong Mae, it made me feel sad. When in one of the scenes in a episode where he got shot while buying candy, I thought he died because he collapsed on the ground and closed his eyes. I was really sad about that scene and I cried. When in another scene where he got stabbed and was thrown into the water, I said to myself that he wasn’t dead and that he was still alive but on the other hand, I thought he died and my eyes started watering and tears started flowing down my face. His character is so pitiful and when they showed flashbacks when he was little where his mum told him to not show his face in front of her, that she does not want to see him and he ran away, I felt so sad for him. He went through a lot and he doesn’t deserve any of this bad treatment and when he was called a butcher, I was so upset and angry. Maybe this caused him to become bad. This is not his fault he became like this. It was how he was treated badly and called a butcher by people. Remember those woman who treated him badly and threw water or something all over him? Now, he finally got his revenge and made them pay. I am really glad that he avenged himself. I also cried at the other scenes of him and unfortunately, he died at the end and I really wanted him to survive but before this death, he thought about Ae Sin, the love of his life. Now, he will never mend his mistakes and I was really sad that he died. Now, I really want to forget this drama and my heartbreak but I keep going back to his scenes. I will really try to forget this as I don’t want to be heartbroken and sad all over again and again 💔😔☹️🥺 Ps. To be honest, I wasn’t that interested in male and female leads love story and was more interested in Dong Mae’s scenes and story. He is actually my favourite character in Mr Sunshine.
Oh my God my heart ❤️ 💔 😢 😭 This song encapsulates not only the individual struggles faced by the characters, but the overarching theme of struggle of the Koreans of the Joseon dynasty, the last dynasty of the Korean Empire. It teaches us that no matter how much we may want for the deepest desires of our hearts to come true, we can never have everything. We live in a world of others' whims, where our dreams are make believe 🥲 The Korean people certainly suffered as a population so so much during the fall of Joseon, in which the Japanese eventually colonised the whole country (north and south back then- it was one country) and made Koreans subject to their culture and ways. I don't know what effect this has had on modern Korea, but I hope that Korean people of today are more freely allowed to practice their culture, and it's a peaceful place to live these days 🙏
This series is particularly different for me because I was more invested in the characters separately, especially Dong Mae, Hui Seong and Hina Kudo. The lead pair didn't interest me that much, but separately they were such amazing characters. Honestly, brilliant writing.
Exactly my thoughts. They felt somewhat bland as couples. But as individuals, they were such highly likeable characters. But obviously, my heart goes for Dong Mae. I mean, dude!!! How much does one need to suffer in life??? As for Hui Seong, I'm so proud of him that he developed so well. Unlike other 4 characters, he didn't have any particular reason to work for the greater cause, to fight against injustice. He could just like his life. But he didn't and so he has my respect. For me it was opposite. Yeah sure all the characters, in and of themselves, on their own individually, are wonderfully-written characters. But the slow-burn romance between the characters was a thing of beauty. Yeah there was no single kissing scenes in the entire series, but even without those kissing scenes, the romance shown were heartfelt, sincere, pure, heart-wrenching, heart-throbbing. The look in their eyes, the deep chemistry, the way they sacrificed their lives for each other, was palpable to see. In fact, rather than bland, the romance between them has so much colors. For me it was THE ultimate romance drama for me, as well as THE drama of my life.
