New Church Symbol Emphasizes the Centrality of the Savior

- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a new symbol to identify the faith. Church Prophet and President Russell M. Nelson announced it and explained its significance during the Saturday evening session of the April 2020 general conference.
“We have gone to these extraordinary efforts because when we remove the Lord’s name from the name of His Church, we inadvertently remove Him as the central focus of our worship and our lives,” said President Nelson, who has given strong emphasis to the correct name of the Church in his ministry since at least 1990. “When we take the Savior’s name upon us at baptism, we commit to witness, by our words, thoughts, and actions, that Jesus is the Christ.”
I think the symbol of the living Christ is just PERFECT.

I love this. I have always loved that statue of Jesus Christ in the Visiting Center. His hand extended. I love the archway and it symbolizes his grave, when he was resurrected.

This symbol just shows that the saviour Jesus Christ is the central focus of the church and therefore proofs the veracity of His restored church.
This is long over due. I’m so happy. My husband died 16 months ago and the only symbol we could put on his veterans grave stone was the angel Moroni. I hope I can one day change it.

It's good to hear that the Prophet emphasizing Christ as the center of our faith. I'd be glad if this will be reflected in the testimonies we bear and speeches we make during the sacrament meeting after the pandemic is over. In my area, I don't hear members talking about Jesus Christ very often during the sacrament meeting. Most of them talk about how they were blessed by obeying a certain commandment, participating in a certain ordnance or following a leader's counsel or sharing how their prayers are answered.... a church program....experience of a youth or single adult conference. These things might be good, but Jesus Christ seemed to be sidelined on the court of sermons. If the top leaders of the Church made such an effort to heighten our awareness of Christ as the center of our faith, we should start to think about how we can augment the presence of Him on a local level. And more importantly, on a personal level.
The Church has turned towards encouraging us to DO FOR OURSELVES. WE must MAKE the EFFORT. Self-reliance is especially important, now that we are quarantined.
This symbol is the symbol of all, transcendent and eternal in perspective.

In 2010/2011 I cleaned the intire McKinleyville church of Jesus Christ. Jesus taught me humility. He has reviled much too me since the minute he took both my parents home together in 1999. JESUS lifted me up and set me on my feet/my path. My testimony he is real& I believe whole heartedly in our eternal LIFE after life on earth ends, "I say this in THE NAME OF JESUS, AMEN!"

It is important that by having a simble of the church that people don't think that we worship or reveal that simble as other churches do the cross, or the image of Christ.
I'm guessing it took a lot of time for the Church to acquire the rights to use the image of the Christus.
kelaarin Maybe or maybe not. I wondered the same thing myself. The Church already has at least two replica Christus statues (SLC Visitors Center and Paris Temple), do its possible that the deal that allowed it to have those statues built allowed it to use the image in other depictions as well. Just a guess though...

it's about time
Now I can look at the Community of Christ logo and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints logo side by side since both now have Icons. It will take a while for us non LDS to put the Angel Moroni with the trumpet as the associated image of the church out of our heads.
Please people stop referring to this as a LOGO. As the Prophet said, this is a SYMBOL. Words matter. 😇

I’ve often wondered if Thorvaldsen was allowed to see the Savior so as to have the ability to so perfectly portray Him. And the date of 1820 for both the First Vision and Thorvaldsen’s magnificent portrayal of the Lord in stone, is perhaps more than just a coincidence?

I've always been thrown off by the "OF LATTER DAY SAINTS" part
Who cares what people think. Once again changing to appease people.
I support and sustain the Prophet and know he's lead by the spirit but why don't they include both the Father and the Son as depicted by Joseph Smith's first vision reasons for this are
. It seperates us from some other Christian denominations in the fact that we worship the Godhead as distinct beings
. it was Christ himself that said all glory be to the father both in pre mortal life accepting the plan as well as in the garden
. We pray to our Heavenly Father in the name of Chirst
.It lessons the sacrafice of our Father
. I do not worship Joseph Smith nor do I worship Moroni but I also do not
worship the tomb but my Heavenly Father
.I do not think of Christ standing by himself as depicted but with his father a symbol that all Christ does is approved by the father
I believe in good better and best is this just being better when we can be best is this just a mock of the Christian cross. I repeat I sustain our prophet and put his teachings first in my life and above my own understanding so my question is where do I fall short
