    That medium roast is darker than any fresh roasted dark roast I've ever seen.

    Hi. I really enjoy watching your videos, but some moments make me go "No,no,no".
    About oily beans. Oily beans are oily not because they were roasted in a lot of oil. Oils on the beans are the result of a natural oxidation reaction that occurs during prolonged roasting, that’s why you can’t see oil on light roast and light-medium roast. Those Starbucks beans do look Dark roasted, not Medium roasted, or more Medium-Dark, closer to the dark side. If there is a lot of air in the bag, that’s not exactly a bad thing. That usually means that it’s freshly roasted. You can actually try doing that; put your coffee in a zip bag and squeeze all the air out, let it sit overnight. If there is not air in the bag, the coffee is probably not freshly roasted and pretty old, not at its best shape. Also while letting the coffee bloom, stir back and forth one time, not like you would stirring sugar, and not in a circular motion. Also you should use a scale and not scoop measurements, because they’re not really accurate, and you can lose or add 1-2 grams even if you think that you did the same thing as the last time. Those are not the only things, If you really want to make a great pour over, I suggest you watching a tutorial from James Hoffman or any other coffee professional, because it will make your coffee taste better.
    Also you have a pretty cheap burr grinder, so grounds come out in different sizes, you can see that most of the time even on the video. Without a great budget, I’d get a hand grinder, cheap but pretty good they cost about $40. There are some $100-$200+ hand grinders, I don’t think they worth the money. For a burr grinder, I don’t think you can get something acceptable/good under $130.
    I really enjoy your videos, but those are some things to improve :)

    I’ve always avoided Starbucks because…well it’s a hipster joint to me lol but my daughter bought me a small cup of pikes place while we were waiting on her coffee-Frankenstein order and WOW I was shocked because I really liked it. We both started laughing because I had to admit it was good. Very different but in a good way

  • @D.2023

    This blend has that staple “Starbucks” taste, very aggressive and recognizable. I wonder what did they do to the beans. First of all, i get very little resistance when i grind it manually. All other beans from different brends are more stubborn to crushing, but this blend just melts in the grinder. Secondly, i think they use so,e sort of sugar coating like in spanish torrefacto coffee. Torrefacto coffee is glazed with sugar to mask low coffee quality and to make it better preserved (invented during WWII), it also adds strong tasting caramel notes on top of base aroma. But starbucks is not so bitter as torrefacto. But that is definitely a strongly processed coffee beans! I like it for its unique “in your face” aroma. I do it in french press, well actually straight in my cup in a metal basket filter.

    • @AtHomewithLucas
      @AtHomewithLucas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow, I didn't know about coating beans in sugar. I'll have to do some research so future reviews look into that being a thing. Of course, as I type, I'm like, he put one of those beans in your mouth and see if it's sweet? 🤷‍♂️

      Yeah, I'm the same way... I buy all the coffees when they go on sale. Right now, I'm just trying to keep a good stock of several different coffees. Sometimes, I'll mix two different coffees to get some totally different. I did a Starbucks mix with my Tim Hortons, but it was yuck lol

    This is one of the best kcups I’ve ever had. Haven’t tried the whole bean as of yet, but for a fast and very flavorful cup, this is my go to. Usually Kcup brews are pretty thin. Not this one.

    • @AtHomewithLucas
      @AtHomewithLucas  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you take your coffee?
      I find kcups make a thin and oil free cup of coffee. Where as no filter brewing make a thicker more harty cup...it's like low fat yogurt (kcup) vs. Full fat yogurt (Whole Bean no filter) I'll take the full fat yogurt any day 😋
