- What's My Line? Aired on January 12, 1958 live from CBS Television City in Hollywood. Guest panelists include Laraine Day, Mickey Rooney, Esther Williams, and Jack Lemmon--and two guest celebrity Mystery Guests: Brooklyn Dodgers center fielder Duke Snider and film and TV star Bob Cummings (The Bob Cummings Show/Love That Bob).
Original Network Commercials include Mutual of Omaha Insurance and Curtis Hair Tonic.
Laraine Day, Mickey Rooney, Esther Williams, and Jack Lemmon! Wow. Plus Duke Snyder and Bob Cummings? That was a really star studded episode.
And how charming and beautiful were Esther Williams and Laraine Day!
As a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, Duke Snider was my favorite player. I was really disappointed that they moved to LA but what a gold mine for the team.
Bob Cummings played Juror #8 in the original 1954 Tv version of "12 Angry Men". Jack Lemmon played juror #8 in a 1997 TV remake.
Interesting to see how people felt about the Brooklyn to L.A. move back when it was a live issue.
John Daly, as usual, was his normal diplomatic self when it came to that issue. In reality, East Coasters held deep resentment when the Dodgers and Giants bolted for the west coast.
I'm glad I tuned in! I graduated HS in 1958, and Esther Williams was my favorite actress. I always wished I could swim like her!
It's crazy that Robert Cummings answered no to "motion pictures" when he made more than 70 films, including the 1950's when he starred in such classics as "Dial M for Murder" with Grace Kelly and Ray Milland.
Anymore please
We should have a few more episodes in a couple days!
That’s my birthday exactly! Maybe my mom watched this in the hospital😊
We share the same b-day!😊 I know my mom didn't watch TV as I was delivered at The Salvation Army William Booth Hospital in St. Louis,
Mo. The hospital no longer exist. Have a happy birthday next month.😊
@@beadmore That’s so cool! I imagine they didn’t have TV’s in hospital rooms in the 50’s. Have a next Happy Birthday 🎂
29:10- "Richard Carlson, Phyllis Avery and Sir Cedric Hardwicke co-star in the fantastic story 'The Other Place', on 'STUDIO ONE IN HOLLYWOOD'! Tomorrow night, on the CBS TELEVISION NETWORK."
If this is from 1958, where's Arlene, Bennett and Dorothy? All 3 couldn't be on vacation at the same time, could they?
This is the only episode of What's My Line that I have seen that was made in Hollywood, California. I guess the regular panelists remained in New York.
Very entertaining episode. Those Hollywood stars could turn on the charm!
laraine was impressive with duke
Yes, she was. Laraine knew Duke from when her husband Leo Durocher was manager of the Giants (and the Dodgers!)
Very nice. I hadn’t seen this one. Thank you very much.
You're welcome!
Hall of Famer.
Considering that the Dodgers played half their 1958 schedule at home and a handful of road games in San Francisco, he did mostly work in California.
Based on the date of this episode, he hadn't played a game in California yet.
This was right after the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles and the baseball Giants went to San Francisco. While Dodger Stadium was being built, the Dodgers played at the Los Angeles Memorial Stadium. They won a World Series while playing there in 1959, beating the White Sox.
what a difference in panelists! This group did well but I still prefer the New Yorkers
he returned to ny with mets
