  • This is what it's about. This hit close to home. Acoustic performance in a small venue. Heart laid out for all to see. This is powerful, indeed.
    Please watch the original video!

I definitely had a similar reaction when I first heard the song

This is from the movie "Once" which I would highly recommend watching. It won the Oscar for original song and Glen composed a lot of the soundtrack along with Marketa Irglova who was still a teenager at the time. It's an indie film from Ireland and 20 years later it's still very moving.

It wasn't this particular song that won the Oscar for Best Song it was "Falling Slowly". th-cam.com/video/k8mtXwtapX4/w-d-xo.html

He made that movie because he couldn’t get a record deal or his music out there so he said fuck it I’ll make a movie.

@@Korey1121Wrong. He had already put out 6 albums by the time "Once" came out.

Glen was a busker (street musician) on the streets of Dublin . That guitar has seen a lot of mileage. All the songs he wrote and performed in the Movie "Once " were beautiful and full of emotion. The movie soundtrack was nominated for a oscar. And the song Falling Slowing won Best song of the year. A gem of a movie .

So intense and powerful, yet heartfelt. No surprise the guitar looks like it's been through a shredder. Maybe like somebody's heart

Oh, my darling Glen. He's truly an amazing singer and songwriter. So much power and passion. He honed his voice busking in Dublin, and you can tell. Sometimes sound systems just can't process his voice, so this was a good version to react to. Love him so much. If it's still on youtube, I highly recommend "Rise Live by the Fire." It's literally just him, a guitar, a violin somewhere, a bunch of people getting drunk, and one of my favorite songs of all time.

I watched this performed in the film, and it blew me off the sofa in a puddle of gooseflesh and unexpected tears.
My wife and I watched it performed on Broadway, and the house erupted in similar waves of saline and awe.
There are myriad forms of art, and while each artform represents the unique connection between one life and the next, there is no greater conduit than music.
If the body is the vessel for the soul, music is its voice...

Ryan, you did it again. Wow, that was powerful and so full of emotion with a rich musical tapestry accenting his voice. Not something we get to hear all the time. Thanks again.

Thank you Ryan for your comment for this song. It describes in the best way my feelings I have, listening to this and a lot of other songs and performances of Glen Hansard.
Thank you for less words and more feelings.

For me, it felt like that song was about convincing yourself about making up your mind... or something like that. Yeah, powerful.
And that guitar must have owed him some money.... lol
