Can't believe that no other comments and were found after viewing this part of the show. Traditional hula chanting, and a very rare & special performance by the Kumu himself. The film editing and background scenes make this a tribute to the Kumus or our past. And, young man ( to me) yes, it is our knees that fail us dancers 1st. The lower movements we did as young dancers / become so hard to do. I stopped performing some of them, as not being the graceful Beverly Now, and loving the chants and implement group dancing so much did not feel that I was doing the song/chant the dignity it deserved.
I'm so glad I found this video and the subsequent others. To me, THIS is Hawaii! I lived in Hawaii for three years back in the late 60's and we saw this a lot. I'm glad they have preserved these traditions on video. Well done!
