First Impressions of Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, Indonesia 🇮🇩 | Orangutan Jungle Trek

- Well, it’s always bittersweet to say goodbye. In this video, we are leaving Medan and heading to Bukit Lawang. Bukit Lawang is about a 3-hour drive from Medan City. Bukit Lawang is a growing village settled on the banks of the Bohorok River, at the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park. This park is famous for its protection of the Sumatran Orangutans. There are only two places in the world where you can see these beautiful animals in the wild, both in Indonesia: Sumatra and Kalimantan (Borneo). Today, we will walk around the village, get settled at Thomas Resort, and meet our guide, Bendy, from Trekking Orangutan Sumatra.
In our next video, we head out for a 2-day/ 1-night Jungle Trek. We go in search of wildlife sightings, play in the river, sleep in rustic accommodations, eat an amazing dinner by candlelight, and go river rafting. This is an adventure of a lifetime. We are still singing the Jungle Trek song that Bendy taught us, and we have added it at the end of each video so you can hear it, too.

We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. New sub here, I like that this is different from the other travel videos which are mostly solo or couple. This travel-family of five makes it a fun, no drama adventure when I know that it is not always easy, especially with very young kids (and them behaving perfectly).
You both are such good parents your kids are going to remember all this stuff all their life imagine them sitting down telling their kids the things that you all have done with them and telling their grandchildren when your kids grow up they are going to be such amazing children thank you for sharing these videos with me I am in a wheelchair and don't get to do much and your gives me so much enjoyment in my life and I think that you should make a t-shirt that says good times

You should go to Lake Toba while you are in North Sumatera, it's worth visiting place.
Although I'm Indonesian, if I wasn't see the news maybe I didn't know that there's orangutan in Sumatra. There's a little difference between Sumatran orangutan compare to the orangutans in Borneo/Kalimantan. But basicly is the same species. Rainy season is coming in Indonesia, so having raincoats will be helpful. Have a safe trip & enjoy!

Again and again I enjoy your family trip, Thomas Retreat is good choice for you, because almost of them can speak english. If you have more time, You should go to Lake Toba. I'ts biggest volcano lake in the world. You can find original Batak tribe, magnificent view and also delicious culinary. 👏
