Charlie Vause of Rio Rancho 1st Place Boys 5K Sweepstakes at Desert Twilight Festival

Charlie Vause, a senior at Rio Rancho High in New Mexico, won the boys 5-kilometer sweepstakes race by producing a course-record 14:42.2 at the Desert Twilight Festival at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Vause, who became the first male athlete from New Mexico to capture the sweepstakes crown since Kashon Harrison of Kirtland Central in 2017, also helped the Rams place second as a team with 117 points.
