Family trauma is hard. The best way to cope is continue doing what you love, so I’m glad to see you back! I’m with you on the Will Ferrell comedies, especially Step Brothers. I do kinda like Anchorman though mostly due to the supporting cast and I love Christina Applegate!

Stephanie, I agree with you 100% regarding The Whale. I saw it in the theater and couldn't help being impressed by Brendan Fraser's performance, and the other actors were very good as well. But the story was such a wrenching, visceral experience that I have no desire to ever watch it again. Now, I own a copy of Requiem For a Dream, but I've only watched it a couple of times. Ellen Burstyn is so good in it, but it's painful watching her suffer so much. The only time I've ever really liked Will Farrell is in Stranger Than Fiction. Anchor Man didn't make me laugh very much and I happily gave it away. I also gave away Lawrence of Arabia. Slogging through all that sand once was more than enough. Good luck getting through that endless trek through the desert!!

Same. This might he even more blasphemous, but I feel the same about Jim Carrey. He definitely has his moments, but I honestly think his brand of comedy isn't for me. I much prefer his more dramatic roles that have a hint of comedy. Funny enough, I feel the same about Sandler.

Hi friend. I get that but if it's not something I'm really excited about and it's almost 3 hrs long, I'm not going to rush. The point was that particular movie was the end of a very long franchise; the ending WAS the point. When people take it upon themselves to spoil it for others, it does take away from the movie experience.
I've watched other movies that had leaked spoilers but they were ones that I was going to see either way.

The Whale definitely wrecked me towards the end. Not a frequent watch, but I'd watch again. Requiem For A Dream I just didn't connect with. I love Will Ferrell, but I don't get the hype over Anchorman. It's just not funny. Quiet Place 2 wasn't the same without Krasinski. Red Rocket seems interesting, yet bothersome. Loved Scream 6. Was my 2nd fave film from last year & I'd put it up there with the 1st one. The Florida Project I've been curious about. Twilight films are a guilty pleasure of mine. Not a dan of Home Alone 😞. I’m with you on Will Farrell. Also to me same with most of Jim Carrey films. I would say over the top physical style of comedy. Now, once they are out of the comedy genre they tend to be great actors. Carrey with eternal sunshine, the number 23, and dark crimes are great examples. Farrell with stuff like everything must go was good. Now for my hot take. The one movie that is supposedly classic and the “best film of all time” that I couldn’t stand and fell asleep on was Citizen Kane. Just didn’t do it for me and I like longer films, my favorite film is The Godfather for crying out loud. The Whale, while devastating, was IMO a great portrayal of mental illness which is hardly done in film. As someone who grew up around severe mental illness I can tell when it’s portrayed correctly and this was. Very heartbreaking, but what is film if it’s not something that pulls at heartstrings and actually makes you think afterwards. Fraiser deserved that Oscar. Sorry for rambling but yeah some I agree with and some I don’t but that’s what is great. BTW try those Will Farrell and Jim Carrey non comedy films and let us know how you like them.

Totally with you on Will Ferrell. The only movie of his I can take is Old School, probably because of his smaller role. How many times is he just yelling the same line over and over like it's funny? I don't get what he considers humor. But then I have probably only enjoyed about five comedies this century. These kids today and their idea of humor are clueless. Clueless wasn't too bad (last century). How boring would movies be if everyone liked the same thing, though. Different opinions make things interesting. I'm sorry to hear about your brother's setback. I hope things improve for him. Y'all will be in my thoughts. I was turned off by Will Ferrel’s brand of comedy, so I haven’t seen any of his classic comedy movies, but of the movies I have seen him in I really like. A few years ago I rewatched Megamind and I really love that movie and I think it was ahead of its time. I also love The Lego Movie and I think he’s good in it.
One movie of his that I would recommend you check out if you haven’t is Stranger Than Fiction (2006) Ferrel plays Harold Crick an IRS agent who leads a routine ordinary life, but one day he starts to hear a woman ‘s voice in his head narrate his life, meanwhile Emma Thompson plays a writer who is struggling to figure out how to kill the main character of her new novel; Harold Crick.
I think it is an under-seen and underrated comedy/drama movie, very different from his more well known movies

Sending positive thoughts and prayers to you and your family, Stephanie. I also agree with you, I do not like Will Farrell. I do not like Elf, Anchorman, or most of his movies. Just too over the top. A 24 is just so hit and miss for me. I am about 50/50 for the movies. I will keep watching them, because sometimes I really enjoy them, like A Sea of Trees, The Farewell, Talk to Me. But sometimes A 24 just falls flat. My last rant is the Spider-Man franchise. If we get anymore re-do’s, I will just give up. I love Spider-Man, and have read so many comics. Why are we so stuck on the origin stories? Can’t we move on and get some new villains? Thank you for your thoughts, and I much enjoyed your opinions!

Love these like-don’t like reviews. I find it interesting to see what others think about different movies. I’ve always liked Lawerence of Arabia and the 4K is great. Beautiful cinema, love Peter O’Tolle. Like the Twilight series for the vampier content. I’m with you on Will Ferrell. He’s one of several comedians that I think are funny in short routines but too much in a full movie. Keep ‘em cumming!

Hi friend. I love Greta Gerwig. I find her to be such a brilliant and well educated person. When I listen to her speak, I feel like she's going on a crazy rampage and then, bam, ties it up perfectly with one statement. I feel like her style is very unique so I'm always excited to see what she has coming next. It was great to see her film added to the upcoming Columbia Classics.

Hi friend. There are plenty of Sean Baker films I like; Tangerine, Starlet, Take Out and I do think The Florida Project was a very well done movie, it just made me sad for the kids. But it is a huge statement on poverty in America. I just don't think it should have been marketed as a happy romp through childhood. Red Rocket just hit wrong with me but I know a lot of people really enjoyed it and that's fine. Movies are subjective so there's no right or wrong just opinions.

The Florida Project should be on a different list because it seems you admire the movie overall. I loved it even though it was sort of disturbing. I agree that it should not be described as "a joyous celebration of childhood" (or whatever). It's sad and raw. But I don't punish the movie for the description on the box. I enjoy movies with non-actors. The kids in this movie are not acting; they are mostly being themselves.

  • @Tyler_W
    @Tyler_W 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

No need to apologize for anything. If someome gets butthurt because you don't like the same movies they do (something really stupid to get upset over), then they're either children or so immature that their opinions are irrelevant anyway. Regardless, own it!
I kinda feel the same way about Will Farrell, but there are definitely a few movies of his I really like, and Anchorman is absolutely one of them. I find it way funnier than it has any right to be, and it's surprisingly quotable. Probably explains why it's the subject of so many memes and gifs.
Still need to see Lawrence of Arabia, but I love the new Dune movies and like the book to the extent that I've read it, and that's basically sci-fi Lawrence of Arabia in space with giant sand worms, so I expect I'll appreciate it if nothing else.
I liked comic book stuff since before it was cool. I think the comedy gets overused at times, which I think is a problem with the MCU as a whole. You can thank Joss Whedon's excessive quippiness for that. I was saying it was going to be the downfall of the MCU if they took it too far all the way back when The Avengers came out, and I think it's safe to say at this point that the most of the best MCU films that will stand the test of time are the ones that least attempted to shoehorn so many Whedonisms, and the MCU has fallen off to a great extent in no small part because too many people think that being as much like The Avengers as possible is the key to success. In a way, The Avengers was almost too successful for the francvise's own good, or at the very least the studio took the wrong lesson from it (and Guardians of the Galaxy, which I also love). With that said, I really love these Avengers movies in spite of their faults. I think I saw at least two of them 3 times in theaters, which I can only say for a handful of other movies.
I liked A Quiet Place part 2. I did feel tension at various points in this movie, especially when the boy gets chomped by a bear trap, when the deaf girl was out on her own, and when they ran into the hostile group of humans. I definitely enjoyed it, but I also definitely didn't like it as much as the original. For me, I just think there wasn't enough interpersonal conflict apart from the girl convincing the older guy to help her. Beyond that it just felt like this was just the next thing that happened after the first movie. Still good imk, but not as good. I love Emily Blunt in everything she's in. She's got this old school style of class about her, and she's genuinely a good actor, but I did wish we got more flashbacks with Krasinski.

@@garyrichardson475 It's a clever premise that's executed well. It's nicely shot, has a great soundtrack, Macaulay Culkin is charming, despite his limitations as a performer. It's very funny. The sentimental element that creeps in at the end is a little mawkish and unearned, and the slapstick does get a tad repetitive with the Wet Bandits. But it's a nice wish fulfillment movie that delivers on its smart premise overall. I have no personal nostalgia per se, just a fondness for John Hughes' writing, his ability to tap into both teen experiences and being a little kid. He had a great sense of observation and a keen eye for the small details of suburban life. I can stand Guardians Of The Galaxy movies, because all I see is that they are an exact copy of Farscape. Nothing about it is original from hack James Gunn. All he did was replaced Farscape characters with Marvel ones.
I've never been a fan of Will Ferrell. He's some note comedian always playing a 5-year-old in an adult's body, which even isn't original. I believe he stole it from the Mad TV character Stewart.
I agree with A Quiet Place 2 not being as good as the first, but for different reasons. The overall plot just didn't work for me. The family's story was over with the original. I have seen Day One and loved it. This is the format the franchise should go in. Disconnected survival stories.
