First time I've heard of considering doing this.
I know some years, the plants do set fruit, but it is rare.
Last year we had allot, this year it looks like only flowers...

Tomato rocking this year. I had a small potato harvest from a 25 gallon. I don’t do the ground because of the stupid fire ants (they’re terrible here) but I do have an old wheelbarrow 🤔 might be a great spot to plant sweet potatoes

Awesome potatoes! Always the most fun vegetable to harvest
My mom grew up on a village farm in Poland; potatoes, fodder beets and rye were how they fed most of the animals (and themselves, wasn't much to buy at the time), both chickens and pigs loooooove potatoes! Pretty awesome well-rounded food, I get why you rank survival foods on your blog in potatoes.
I also bring it up because when I talked about needing to get chicken manure for my sunflowers and sorghum she mentioned that her father fertilised "the old village way", by soaking a few shovelfuls in a barrel with some compost and other junk, and then using the "interesting" smelling water on the plants. Dave's Fetid Swamp Water has its roots all over the world!

I do no till potatoes, they are better every year. I live in arid windy Montana , I’m 71, no weeding, water drip about 1/2 hour once a week, 50 lbs last year in a 20x4 foot bed. I have old hay stomped with old manure and cow urine. It’s better every year.

Mmmm, yes, potatoes are on my list to grow down here in central FL but there are some other things I need to take care of. I had a garden friend tell me that I’d regret planting Everglades tomatoes but I need a good weedy tomato that I can direct my kids to as I beat them back from my garden tomatoes.

And I don't mind your non polished /PC comments as you don't hurt anyone in particular. Usually very fun. For example guessing weights. I weight double those potatoes and still am fit. Muscle and bones weigh so much, either my friends are lying to me or they have bird (hollow) bones. Dunno.
