Rat rod style go kart build from scrap

  • So I wanted to take a break from Jumpy 2.0 and decided to take the scrap that was laying around and make a go kart. It turned out to be more challenging than I thought it would be, but it was fun. I love to troubleshoot and figure things out so this was a great opportunity to do that. It took a lot of creativity to make everything work only using the junk that was laying around here. I wasn't sure it would even work, in my head it did but I didn't know if the engine would have enough power or what would happen. I will probably add to it in the future but it will still only be using scrap. This is my 100% free scrap go kart.

      I stick the cable through the hole in the throttle arm directly on the carb and add a cable stop,then add a return spring to pull it back closed.

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the brakes that are built into the rear mower axle. If you dont have that you could always add a scrub brake. A scrub brake is something solid that is pulled against the wheel when you hit the brakes. Is just simply uses friction as brakes. Hope that helps you out, thanks for watching!

    Pretty Freaking Cool Bro. Stumbled upon your channel and to my surprise .. I really enjoyed your creativity in design and re-purposing scrap odds and ends. I prefabricate most of my own HD parts and mods. So, it may not be all that fast or Hi-Tech; but it is enough that it would certainly make some youngster feel like a million bucks to own it. Good job man, also liked the commentary; even if I could only make out about two out of every ten words .. the two words were enough to understand what you had going on; easier to hang with a few mumbles than a bunch of extra chatter. • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is nothing on here that converts a vertical input to a horizontal output. Its just a vertical shaft push mower/pressure washer engine, a go kart centrifugal clutch that i welded a v-belt pulley to and a mtd lawn tractor rear axle. They do make left or right angle drive gearboxes that could convert vertical to horizontal, but they are quite expensive. Thanks for watching Colby!

    Ah, this is how we need to source our drivetrain parts
    I was wondering how we would adapt our engine output shaft for my project to the drivetrain
    Btw if you are curious our engine is a 190cc 6.5hp Briggs flathead vertical shaft
    Edit: is there a way you can directly adapt the shaft to the gearbox?

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use a coupler to mount from engine to trans but it would take off as soon as it starts. You need to have a clutch of some sort to be able to remove power from the axle when the engine is running and connect power when you want it to go.

    • @Creeperboy099
      @Creeperboy099 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fire And Gasoline I’m thinking attaching the clutch to the output of the transmission and chain driving the rear end
      This Briggs is only a test engine for the chassis, and it will eventually have a horizontal shaft engine in it with a torque converter (and someday maybe be a hybrid too)
      Edit: our layout is going to be like a racing kart, where the engine is to the right of the driver

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Creeperboy099 you could do that but it would need to be a clutch that engages at a low enough rpm. If the engine is running at 4000 rpm the axle may only be turning 400 rpm. The clutch wouldn't be at a high enough rpm to engage if that was the case.
