Bonus tip - you can use defense as offense! In Sparking Zero, you don't just wanna run straight into your opponent and mash buttons. The AI will eat you alive as will any solid player. But what you can do is bait your opponents by making it look like you're coming in for an attack, and then just holding guard for Sonic Sway or even using Perception to bait an easy counter. You can even stop midway through your combo starters, move around a bit, and keep trying to bait that counter. Baiting Sonic Sways is great because it helps mix up your attacks but also reduces the opponent's ki of course.
Here's a tip: You can dragon dash away while up close to the opponent. Meaning, you can Z dash to their back after you stun them if you press it fast enough. Another tip: Z dashing while sparking and mashing square/X will have a much faster combo than just regular sparking, but it doesn't last long.
Yeah when I was playing the story mode with my little brother I called myself the backshot legend because everytime I do a combo they would be turned around lol
Another useful tip for super counters: Instead of tilting the left stick up and letting go in a loop, just do a quarter circle right to up rotation back and forth instead. It's less taxing on the hands. The game is looking for up inputs during a punch, it doesn't have to be 100% up from neutral. A smooth transition from right to up works as well. Flicking the stick in a direction is way more taxing on the hand than a 45° rotation and you can do the latter way faster.
I have watched so many people giving tips for this but nobody has gone over both controller types (PlayStation or Xbox). Thank you for the commitment to your audience.
There is also another defensive option within offense, you can dodge rush attacks with a simple step in (X playstation/A xbox) and to add onto that, you can do a step in sway by pressing block within a step in and your character will dodge to the side after stepping in. This can be used to dodge normal rushes and can even be used to dodge a charged attack! Very useful and simple defensive technique within offense. Timing is crucial to an extent here ofc, as it takes no ki or anything to execute.
This game definitely made me think more about defense coming off the back of Xenoverse 2 where I could just mash and use vanishes if things got hot. Another tip I found for AI is that using vertical launches (where you kick them up) leaves them wide open if you want to secure a blast (especially in sparking mode i could pretty consistently hit my blasts this way) or need a breather to charge ki as long as you dont attack them while they're falling. Sometimes offense is the best defense!
@@Darkfirewolf12you can also do that in this game but there ki should be lower like only 1 full bar or last bar being half. It's done by breaking there guard if there guarding down you atk from up or from right if there guarding left.
I have grown to hate the Xenoverse/Storm vanish/substitution. You either have the resource and you just push the button, or you don't and you get destroyed.
Felt like a Eureka moment when you said you can hold block and still do that haha. Like "WHY DIDN'T I Think of that...." thank you so much, time to head to the other guide, after ofc i SUB.
Oh man, thank you for this! I got the game yesterday and was really struggling with the super counter stuff. I thought I could just hold up and spam X until the counter happened, but now that I know I have to do each input for each counter I want to do that should make it a lot easier to do. I ran through the tutorial stuff before I started the game and now realise a lot of it went in one ear and out the other. I didn't use Instant Transmission attacks during the whole Goku story because I forgot about them lol
I never hear people mention that you don't have to get stuck into an endless z counter loop. After the first (maybe it's second) z counter, you can sidestep giving you those big juicy backshots.
There's a 12 frame penalty delay if you miss a super counter. Also you HAVE to press UP and SQUARE at the SAME TIME for it to work. If you keep holding up while pressing square the game won't recognize it as a super counter, and is gonna think you're just trying to do a rush attack, resulting in you getting combo'd
Another thing is that you can use super counters against teleports which prevents you from wasting ki in vanishing battles and just be super countering them
Man I was getting back shots last night with my friend and he pounded me so hard that I was leaking sweat. It was so hard. The thing I find most funny is the idea of somebody countering my back shot, in the bedroom sense. Or countering my back shot to land a back shot of their own.
I have another suggestion to deal with backshots. If the opponent pushes you away after one of their hits you just use the vanish attack. You only need a split second, It only uses one ki bar and the timing is easier than up+square, if you ask me. It has gotten me out of a few sticky situations.
So, one thing I'd like to point out: On classic controls, you can use the dpad to move.
