This is absolutely stunning. From one Frankie to another, bravo! I did it in concert...so I was stationary during this number. I LOVE the staging, lighting, and everything about this interpretation! (Btw...I saw the original Lincoln Center production in 1998 at 16 and fell in love with Frankie. I stalked the role for years. Gave up hope and moved on to Leo. Just then, at 33, did I get cast as Frankie in my production and still thank the stars for aligning and letting this old man play a role I'd already grieved the loss of!) Your vocal dynamics are beautiful. I always struggled to find a way to get through the song without completely breaking down OR seeming detached. You found that balance and I loved it. So glad this popped up in my recommendations. Let's trade subscriptions! I'll bet we've done a lot of the same roles!
I think I have a good idea :) It's sad how more actors aren't supportive the way I try to be...I mean, I know technically everyone is competition. I have hundreds of videos posted...and have literally never gotten a trolly comment directed at me. BUT, the comments I do get are all from females who couldn't be more gracious and TOO kind, sometimes. What I'm getting at is if I "sucked," I'd be getting attacked on here. Instead, it's mostly still (until a teen girl or a mom with an aspiring actor child comment.) :) I wish more people could have the same attitude. Like...I watched this. I was jealous of the production, lol. I thought you sounded gorgeous. I had to say something. It's sad to think how many hundreds of other people did the same but DIDN'T comment. Anyway...I subscribed to ya and am really loving your work! Are you a dancer? That was my weak spot.
That awkward moment when your favourite hilarious TikTok Mormon played a creepy, vengeful little southerner in one of the darkest musicals put to the Broadway stage
This was a stunning rendition of one of my all time favorite songs and favorite song to play on the piano. When I went to a conservatory, I went for guitar and piano but I was not a singer by any means. I wished I was but I cannot sing and made peace with it and practiced 8-10 hours a day and played gigs all night long and taught ( which lead me to audition at the conservatory after getting my undergraduate degree ) because I needed to be that more proficient at my instrument. But at conservatory one of the I had to take was a chorus ensemble class that all of the theatre majors who dance, acted and sung incredibly well, took along with me, who could not sing at all but they were sure it was important to broaden my musical pallet and to help in exposing me to new types of music. I was skeptical but on the first day, the instructor began to play the old 1800’s Steinway pianos we had and the first song they sang was,, “ It don’t make sense/There is a fountain “ and my eyes welled up with tears. The booming, heartfelt vocals, the unbelievable piano playing in perfect time with the vocalist, the dynamics of the pianist and the singers and the part of the song that switches over to a major key and the bass note progression is played over an F major arpeggio ( I believe ) was one of the most beautiful things I had ever heard. That week I watched his hands and one of the students who knew how to play it sat with me and showed me how to play it on a long break and every time I sit down at my piano I still play it until this day and that was 2007. So any instrumentalist who aren’t into broadway shows, all I can say is I discovered some of the most beautiful songs I had ever heard when we started doing classics like Carousel and Rent and many, many others. But stripped down, with a solo piano…. add a master player/creative director and a stunning or group of stunning vocalist and it’s a surreal experience when you are just feet away. this song can easily bring you to tears. I would give anything to go back to one of those moments in the cold winter mornings, coming and hearing It Don’t Make Sense played on the piano and the natural reverb and echo of the room causing and almost perfectly endless sustain.
