I wish my son like canaries like me or you I breed canaries for forty three years since I was ten years old and some times greenfinches only one or two pairs When I have a canary with slip claw or finger one on the back I pull the finger back and put a slightly bigger ring and hold it back by the ring in the ring I prefer plastic once that way the bird is more comfortable on his legs you can try it if you like you can even try his nail pulled back under the ring instead the whole finger.

Thankyou for the kind words. I do try make them as informative as I can, especially for the new comers to the hobby.
I will be doing a video on selecting the birds and what to look for once the moult is over as currently the bird can’t accurately be judged in the moult.
And I will also do some on breeding mules and hybrids once they’ve all moulted as I will be able to look at who and what will be paired to make the best young

What kind of lighting do you use for your bird room? Especially to get them to breed?

    • @OCAVIARY

      I use LED strip lights

Do the LED lights give your birds the UV that they need for breeding? I have really struggled with this. I live in California and I keep canaries and finches but I keep them indoors year round. So I am finding that they don’t attempt to breed and I think it is related to the lighting. It seems like you are very knowledgeable. Do you have any advice for me? I also have three male house finches that I would like to eventually breed when I get some females.

Just went to join the Facebook page about the competition. Because I’m very interested but I’m not allowed to join ,as I don’t keep Norwich or Native birds . Disappointed

The competition ended nearly 2 months ago I’m afraid. The competition was being ran by a group strictly for natives or Norwich /AOV Canary keepers as they are the primary audience of the group, sorry we couldn’t cater for the birds you keep
