Just so you know; you can also customise the midi shortcuts as well as assign keys strokes to most (all?) virtual buttons (stop/start, on/off, clip triggers etc. etc.) too...... Just be careful to not to use the key commands for more than one function... Things will get messy quickly!
ctrl-shift-m makes a new clip the custom length of your selection. Fast. In contrast, double clicking only makes a clip the size of your grid setting. Therefore, using ctrl-shift-m can be faster than double clicking, entering the clip, and sizing it with markers or numbers. Notice in your video, you double clicked and got the grid size of 1/4 note. Dragging for length was only making it loop. You couldn't double click and get a 4 bar clip (a common need), for example . The quickest way is to select 4 bars and press ctrl-shift-m.
True, but then the clip has the loop turned off, so you still have to enable it. Also, I'm a mostly techno guy lmao. I barely ever need patterns longer than 1 bar hahaha I'm curious tho, in what tier would you put Ctrl+Shift+M then?
@@MyshkoMusic For me, the new clips already have loop enabled. Must be a setting for default? I would put it in tier A since I use it all of the time, however, once you make a selection it does appear in the right click menu. I put a 4 chord progression in one clip since it mainly repeats for my music. 4 or 8 bars. I also use this a lot: in a clip, select the loop brace and ctrl-arrows sizes the length. ctrl-up arrow doubles the current length each time. So 1 bar becomes 2. Do it again, 2 bars becomes 4, etc. And you can see the new loop tick marks on the arrangement track clip change at the same time. I'd put this in tier B or C.
@@TonyByte Hhahahahah to be fair yesterday I realized that I instinctively use CTRL+L quite often when setting audio clip loops in session view. Didn't even think about it lmao Might have to make an apology vid, then I'll truly be able to call myself a REAL youtuber 😆😆😆
That's why I bought a mini macro keyboard a few days ago. Now evry crazy long shortcut I have on the only one key. Thanks for few exaples I need update my macros :)
Thanks for pointing those out! ☝🤓 Tho I couldn't see myself needing anything else than 1/16 notes 98% of the time, and for the arrangement I don't think I've ever used any other grid mode than "Narrow" CMD+1 and 2 would be a lower E tier imo. Too gimmicky and unmemorable...
@@MyshkoMusic that’s a fair assessment! The most use I found it was when I need to duplicate something and in the 1/16th view sometimes I overshoot my drag and select more than intended. Great list, I learned a couple watching this!
Gotcha, I mainly work in session view, so the loop is set automatically, so, meh... I didn't know about F12, but Shift+Tab does the same thing, except you can press it with your left hand more easily
Wow what a great tier list, learned a bunch of new shortcuts! Though I couldn´t disagree more about the Control+Shift+M haha. I hate it when double clicking the clip is automatically being in ´loop´ mode... Aaaand you can do it with one hand, hence it gets the S TIER for me.. 😏
Bro literally said pressing alt to. deactivate snapping to the grid is a detail move. IDK how much writing you're doing, my man. That shit's extremely valuable. for getting a human fill without having to go back to your grid snap settings. Oh yeah, I highly advise setting macros to your mouse for the control alt and shift or escape and enter. cell weight limits you from half and you use both hands. to input a hockey shortcut.
also, when looking for some function from windows program in mac program, shortcuts usually, mostly, work the same, which helps in transitioning... so there is that plus too...
double-click clip (insert midi) & ctrl/sihft M are not the same, dude...... If you drag the clip like you did in the video then you end up with a repetition of the same short clip (4 x 1bar) rather than a longer clip (1 x 4bar)......

Decent tier list. Can't get over CTRL + Shift + M being ranked so low, its all I press on a new project when making midi
CTRL + SHIFT + T and CTRL + SHIFT + M right after to make a new track and insert a midi-clip
A perfect video to learn shortcuts :)
Thank you! It's the most fun way to teach them I could come up with hahaha
bro im trying to learn ableton after years of fl and this is exactly what i needed :D

@@MyshkoMusic you are entertaining, btw. Also, If you move CTRL-L up to a top tier and publicly admit that you were mistaken, I will subscribe. 🤣

I like command 1+2 to make the grid smaller or bigger, just learned that one ☝🏾

Przesiadłem się na abletona jakieś 2 miesiące temu. Mega przydatny odcinek - dzięki 😎👌
Mega się cieszę, pozdro bratku! ;D
I alwyas use Control + L for loops ! So useful in techno
Also a nice shortcut is F12
F12 - Swap between Effects and Midi (or audio)

Amazing video!
Keyboard shortcuts requiring two-hands and/or moving my hand off the mouse are an automatic F-tier.
Hahahah cheers brotha.
Ctrl+Shift+M? More like Ctrl+SHIT+M, amirite or amirite?
@@MyshkoMusic you guys can't use the ctrl-shift- on the right side of the keyboard? I demolish the M with my pinky.
This video got into the algorithm. You have a new sub =]

Ctrl+Shift+M with one hand bro? I'm not tryna do hand yoga I just want to make music 😆
