Special thank you to Tiffany and Gary for their time
We had the privilege to spend time with the wonderful people of Unega Mountain Dog Rescue in Bellevue, Idaho. In several states, Great Pyrenees and Akbash are considered livestock and are treated horribly. Many are shot, beaten and abused when they are no longer useful for ranchers. Even though they are dogs, since they are classified as livestock, they have no legal protection.
Unega has been rescuing, raising, rehabilitating, socializing and placing these dogs into safe healthy homes for seven years now.
UMDR emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the Great Pyrenees & Akbash breed, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2015, we are an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support.
Their rescues are large working dogs that have been either abandoned, injured, misplaced, or just walked away from the local area sheep herds. Their mission is to save as many dogs as possible, young and old - giving them a second chance to grow old, and to be happy and healthy.
If you would like to learn more about the plight of these dogs, volunteer, or make a donation please visit their website:

Thank you we love you and all that you do! From Z’czar, my Great Pyrenees and me❣️❣️❣️🐾🐾🐾🐶🐶🐶
I live in Texas and these awesome dogs are regularly dumped and left to fend for themselves. I recently rescued one and gave her to a good friend in Illinois where she can enjoy a large yard and the Chicago weather. This dog is sweet, loving and gentle. She loves exercise.
Great Pyrenees are the most loving dogs on the planet. My baby boy is half Pyrenees and he is so loving.
thank you for doing this.
These breeds are some of the most loyal, intelligent, kind I've ever experienced.
Thank you for everything you do for them ❤ I love great pyrenees and I have one myself 😢
Pyrs are Great! We have a 50 pound puppy---and he is sweet and loving, a big, goofy, fur ball of affection. And a soon to be great guardian of us and our home.
These dogs are worth it to protect and preserve. Do!
I have 2 and there the GREATEST dog ever
We have 3 and couldn't agree more! Absolutely love our Pyrs!!
@@lakiccreative3535
I guess they could be considered the Greatest.
Though I'm a bit Biased As well 😇🐕🦺🥰
It's hard to imagine abusing them, or any of our four legged friends,.. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHOWING THIS 👍
... My Pal Hal just crossed that Rainbow 🌈 Bridge, and i miss him so much,.. and my first time without a Pyr in many decades, and i don't like it
@@lakiccreative3535
And thank you for not showing the abuse.
I can't watch that stuff 😢
we just adopted a great pyrenees- Buddy is very loving-being 14 months old- we are his 3rd and his forever family-
Beautiful
Our Pyr is the greatest thing that has ever happened to our family & farm.
Incredible breed.
Thank you for what you do. We have a GP and an Akbash, both are the best dogs we've ever had. We fostered both for NGPR, my hubby fell in love with the GP (Gracie) and when we got the akbash, Duke to foster he wasn't socialized. He bonded with me the hour ride home, but took 2 weeks to go to my hubby and 4 months to go to our son. I couldn't let him go, I knew they would limit him to a female only owner. They almost wouldn't let us keep him because of this, but I saw he wanted to go to my son (with the help of Gracie the GP) Now he loves our son and hugs on him (by pressing his head on him) when he comes home from college. He's still a little nervous with men, but does go to some men. I never heard of the akbash before we started fostering and I would say they are wonderful and caring dogs. Duke has never shown any sign of aggression whatsoever and has been the easiest dog to train. And yes the Pyrenees are very sensitive, they will get their feelings hurt and you will know it!!!
Again thank you for what you do!!!!
That's amazing! Thank you for fostering and all the work that you do!
I love the Akbash, Great Pyrenees, and the Maremma. If I lived in farm country, I would definitely have one.
It makes my heart sick, these majestic dog will & do work their hearts out, to be treated as livestock is stone age. Just like military working dogs used to be classified as equipment - accordingly & justly that law has changed. As should happen for these dogs. The legislation must change.
Thank you UMDR for all you do. ❤❤❤
We got Great Pyrenees and Maremma mix 4 months old He is amazing, great with kids and family. Smart and loyal. He needs family, can’t be alone. Thanks guys for what you are doing.
These are the the best dogs in the world. I am in my mid 60's and have had 3 of them now. 2 of the (at different times), kept my house from being broken into.
Thank you so much for what you do! We just got a Great Pyranees mixed with Maremma and Komondor. She's only 11weeks and she's so inlove with our son and hence the reason why we decided to get her after we saw her and her siblings in a local famer's market. I knew we needed a loyal and protective dog since we have a baby on the way. I treat our animals in the house as my own child too and I could never be any happier that my kids will have a fur sibling that will protect them at all cost!
I have a Husky/ Pyrenees mix I adopted over two years ago after his owners surrendered him for being too big. I had a husky before, but never a Pyrenees and they are by far the best breed, I love them and cannot fathom how they (or any animal for the matter) can be treated so cruelly. Thank you for the work you do. They are big dogs, small feat. 😉
Thank you for your service to these majestic guardians. It is heartbreaking that people are so inhumane to these heros that simply try to loyaly and diligently work for us. I hear that Akbash will even defend to their death against wolves and bear and yet some owners mistreat and abandon them.
Thank-you for the work you do. You are right, Pyrs are the most loyal and family friendly breed there is. I have a Pyr mix and I love that dog so much.
I have a Maremma and an Akbash. I call them both Pyrenees because that’s the main breed. Luv my babies!
Sounds like you've got some awesome dogs!
If only I can adopt one, but I'm from the Philippines.
Best dogs ever
Absolutely, that's why we have 3 of them!
Bless you!❤🥰
We rescued an abandoned Akbash in Idaho one month ago. He is the sweetest dog. He had obviously been abused, and was scared of almost everything. Now he is playful and happy! I had no idea that these poor dogs were abandoned or abused so much, but within one week of us rescuing our dog, the local animal rescue found one just like him. They contacted me, thinking that our dog was missing. I really wish I could adopt the second one, but we don't have a large enough property for more dogs. We have a friend who is going to adopt this second one.
Thank you for your work, and for helping these wonderful dogs!
I have a Great Pyrenees she is wonderful with my children and when we go in the backyard she is on duty constantly watching the surroundings. She is gentle and kind. I had no idea people had a negative view of LGD. They are the sweetest family dog. I live in cow county and this is a well known fact as they live on many family farms. You are wonderful.
damn right they are LOYAL. My own dog, Roger-Pierre, is basically my Familiar. Best dog I have ever had!
I lived in Utah for three years. I had no idea they treated these brave and loyal companions that way. That’s horrible. I’m glad to see you are helping these dogs and giving them the better life they deserve
They don't. She does this because it greatly increases the donations by pulling heartstrings. All too common in the rescue world because people assume they are honest. Ranchers in fact highly value these dogs who are thousands of years old landrace breeds that PREFER independence, the job they do and large open areas. They in fact do not like to be confined and it creates stress in true working dogs. No matter how much she bullshits you, you don't change thousands of years of selection. Research these breeds on your own. You'll see what I am talking about. She is playing to the "fur mommy" wallet.
Hi! There are several states in the US that classify the Pyrenees and Akbash as "livestock", not "dogs" which means that ranchers can (if they choose) neglect and abuse these dogs as if they are sheep! Not all ranchers neglect/abuse their dogs - it's only the ones that do that are really bad and consistent with it! You are correct that Pyr's love their independence and love to roam as well as defend their flocks. No one is trying to change that - all Unega wants to do is that when the dogs are not working (and when they are), they want the ranchers to feed them, and treat them well.
@@lakiccreative3535 SCAMMER! JUST STOP. Farmers and Ranchers are suffering these last years and here comes the likes of you scamming money. SIT DOWN
Hi! Respectfully, I do not think you know the ranchers situations and the laws in Idaho! Nor does it look like you rescue animals from the mountains that have been left to die. Appreciate your input and thank you to everyone who has, and continues to, donate to the cause!
@@mnj5089 no one’s saying saying that they shouldn’t be used as livestock guardians, we’re just saying that they shouldn’t be abused and neglected. Livestock guardians are not livestock. You don’t need to educate me on the history of Pyrenees, I already know everything about them. Regardless of her motives are what she’s saying is true
We got out first dog and he is half great pyrenees and half border collie. I have never been around a better dog my entire life. Such good dogs
Thank you so much for what you do. I live in Colorado and have fostered Pyrenees and Pyrenees mixes. I had to stop due to my health issues but we have a Pyrenees from Texas and a Pyrenees mix. Both are 9 and one needs acl surgery. Unfortunately we have a small yard which is not conducive to the breed. We adore the breed and will never have any thing but. Sophie is a therapy Pyrenees but is presently waiting on surgery. What you do is amazing. I've come to hate TX as there are so many Pyrenees in need.
We are in Australia and we've adopted 4 Maremma's over the past 4 years. Mainly because of changes in circumstance of the previous owners. A pleasure to have them in our lives and to see them look after us, our farm and our animals. We are currently looking into becoming a rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing centre for Maremma's in South Australia. Keep up the good work.
Great Italian breed. My grandparents in Italy had a couple as well as a Cane Corso. Never had a single loss of any of their animals.
I don't have a great pyranees myself but my gal is a rescued sarplaninac Kangal mix. All I want is to say thank you for your amazing dedication and work. You truly are angels on this earth
Thank you for all you do. I love Pyrennes and all LGD

Thank you so much!! We adopted just a few months ago. Best dog we have had - Great Pyr
Bless u for what you are doing for these dogs.i own a great pyrennes.this is so sad.thank God you are helping them.
Beautiful👏👏👏 well done🙏☮💚 BLESSINGS
Raised two pups female and male brother and sister on a small goat ranch in south Texas we were suddenly forced to leave relocate because the land owner wanted to sell the property at the peak of the pandemic housing boom.
Living in suburbia and I am broken that my dogs are limited to a small yard and the little house...they need the space to run and do their job.
Those ranchers sound like real dirt bags , thought they were of a better stock than that. Great job you are doing ! Thanks for what your doing !
Not all ranchers treat their dogs poorly - some are great and treat them exactly as they should! It's really the "this is how we've always done it" kind of ranchers that are not great. The new generations of herders are pushing to change the ways! To find out more information about Unega and the dogs, check out our new channel @bellaandnikola that has content from Unega's new location, the team and the dogs!
There is definitely a movement in Idaho to give these dogs loving homes. Unfortunately, there will always be bad people in any state.
Thank you for all that you do, from Ohio. We have a sm farm and have 1 pry, 1 Akbash (3/4) pry mix, and our big guy who is a lab mastiff mix. I've had a GSD before and love that breed my GSD was a rescue and was a trained service dog. But I have grown to love pyrs 🥰🥰. Bless you all for what you are doing. I truly appreciate your hard work. I'm a social worker I understand the struggle. 💞💕
Sounds like you have an amazing pack! We love all our LGDs and GSDs!
Awesome. You have a mastador. I heard they are incredible guard dogs and very loving.
Thank you so much for what you're doing. A Great Pyr's "dad".
They’er beautiful! Thanks for posting. 👍
We are grateful for what Tiffany and Gary are doing and how they treat these sweet sweet dogs!
You doing such a great work. I got a Great Pyrenees puppy 3 month ago and I am so happy with her. But if I would know about your guys earlier I would got a dog from you. If I get a second one I will come from Miami and get one of your rescues. I am just disgusted about this inhuman Ranchers who are not more worth as a Coyote in my eyes. In a bigger scale, it is terrible that this caveman hillbilly’s are allowed to send representatives to Washington and have a vote over civilized people.
Is there somewhere, somehow, ,where I can donate money? It won't be a lot BUT I rescued a Great Pyrenees just a few months ago from the Texas woods, and she has changed my life!
My dog is Maremna mix which is similar ..these dogs arent easy cause they are guardian dogs..they need lots of space...and are stubborn. Not for inexperienced owners but i adore my dog. They are playful funny and will guard your home that is for sure!
Special kind of hell for whoever abuses these gentle fluffy giants. 💔
Great work! I had no idea that dogs within the United States were deemed “livestock”! How did that happen? The most beloved of all out pets treated like…well basically meat. (Also do not believe that actual livestock should be cruelly treated). Thank you for taking care of these gentle creatures.
It is not across all of the United States, just certain states! Unega Mountain Dog Rescue is working on getting the laws changed in Idaho to protect these dogs and remove them from the “Livestock” classification!
@@lakiccreative3535 ,, Well, I hope you are successful at changing the Laws in those States. It's just wrong the way it is now. We had 2 Pyrs that adopted our home and us. Just wandered in and stayed. One grew to 185 Lbs, the other 140 Lbs. I figured the biggest was a throwback to the original breed that averaged 200 Lbs. He was level with our kitchen counter top. Huge Boy. We had them 12 years before cancer took them within 8 months of each other. Very sad for us. A few months later I was told that Animal Control had taken several Pyrs from a guy that was mistreating them. We adopted one male from the bunch. It has taken time to get him to understand we mean him no harm and he has now adopted us. I knew he was for us when I first saw him. He saw me from a distance and ran to me and lay flat down on the ground in front of me at my feet. Ya, he picked me, I did not pick him. Now, my Wife and I are his flock to protect. He keeps getting closer each day but still a little shy. Some days he does roll over for a tummy rub. When I go out at night (1-2am) he gets all excited I'm there for him and wants to play. I have had lots of dogs over my 75 years, and the Pyr is the best. Thanks.
You are doing a great job!
I really dont understand. Not only are they fiercely loyal and smart dogs, but they protect the livestock of the ranchers. Why would you not protect them?
Very good
Glad that you like the video! What Tiffany & Gary are doing is amazing!
Wondering how one could join the fight to change their classification from livestock to dogs, in addition to donation? Essentially by changing legislation. Can you guide me?
We are currently working on a film for the Sun Valley Film Festival that will spread awareness of the laws and treatment of these dogs in an effort to bring more attention to the issue and have legislators listen and begin working on changing the laws! Unega appreciates any and all donations! You can see the new content and making of video on our new channel @bellaandnikola where we are documenting the film and all news surrounding Unega!
❤️
Shame on people for treating these PRECIOUS CREATURES this way. These animals work hard for you and your family when they are in the best of health, it's only fair you return the favor and care for them when they need you!
My pyr is ablessing to me
On highway 99 Between Los Angeles and Bakersfield there were two Great Pyrenees brothers just standing on the side of the road. BNB Dog Rescue obtained them from Kern County animal services. Within 3 days they were adopted by two neighbors living side by side. The brothers are enjoying the best life with their respective adoptive fur parents. So sad that idiots and jerks treat these gentle giants as property and not the kind souls they are.
Hello ! Thank you for your work !! I plan to move next year to the mountains , and purchase a Akbash ! I currently live in New York City ! Can I contact you lovely folks to possibly adopt one or two dogs at that time ?????
Hi! Congratulations on your move! I would suggest reaching out to the team at Unega Mountain Dog Rescue and start working with them to find the dog(s) that best fit your lifestyle, environment and more! For more information about the dogs you can check out our new channel @bellaandnikola where we have videos from Unega and tons of Pyrenees content!
How can I support you?
Hi Lynda, the best way to support Unega is to go on to their website and make a donation so that they can continue helping these dogs! Their website is unegamountaindogrescue.org
If I had a big yard, I'd take a couple of the Akbashes off your hands. How well do they get along with other dog breeds?
We have 3 Pyrenees from Unega as well as a German Shepherd and 8 pound dachshund - they all get along fantastic! Two of our Pyrs are 120+ pounds and one of them is best friends with our 8 pounder! Our new channel @bellaandnikola has tons of information and videos about the Pyrenees and Unega!

Are you particular about the dog food brand I would love to send something thanks from Wisconsin
Hi! The team at Unega takes all kinds of donations - I know that they have a good amount of Stella & Chewy for their dog food! Thank you in advance for any donation you will/may have already made!
I sleep every night with my Anatolian in my sleeping bag in the dirty bed he creates and he is so sensitive and sweet and a butt head lol hahahaha. I adopted him from a rescue shelter. Hes a year old and weighs about 100 lbs and alor of work. I make all his food and he eats more than me. Loves kids and women but terribly shy around other dogs.
LGDBQ ?
Something like that haha!
I like your channel, but there are issues with what you are doing. It's one thing to rescue dogs from left behind guardian dogs. But to reclassify and in any way try to infringe on what these dogs are bred and used will only hurt the bread overall. You know this is true. Yes, you are doing a great job and I love how you take in the older and Lost guardian dogs. Just don't be so self-righteous and destroy the bread by destroying its purpose for life. They are guardian dogs and that is what they want to do above anything else.
Hi David! Unega completely supports these dogs being working dogs. They are not saying "don't let them work and protect livestock", they are trying to classify them as "dogs" so that when they are done working, they cannot be abused or neglected. They are fighting for these dogs to be treated fairly like other dogs! They are working dogs and that is exactly what they should be, but they should not be subject to the cruelty they experience when they are working, or done working.
Set your mind on Christ Jesus, with a repentant heart and leave Him, to decide what you'll leave behind.
The reason I say this, is because it is by grace through faith, that we are saved and that is not of ourself. So it isn't by works or anything we do, or don't do, but by faith alone, having believed that Jesus died for our sins once for all, and that God raised Him from the dead.
The bible says we are to believe this in our heart and confess it with our mouth, unto salvation.
So, does doing this, make it a works based salvation? Not at all, it is an act of obedience to God, the Holy Spirit, Whom, has indwelt the believer, causing regeneration of our spirit that was dead in Adam. Just like He did in the one thief on the cross next to Jesus and again in the Roman Centurion who stood at the foot of the cross on Calvary and proclaimed Jesus as the Son of God.
We have also, been given a new spirit and a new heart that is not hardened toward righteousness and a renewing of the mind, which completely changes our volition. This is why a sinner would be willing to walk away from sin and follow Jesus as Lord of their life. Just like you are thinking, you may wanna do.
Judging by the comments, it sounds to me as though you are doing exactly what you said in your heart, you would be willing to do. The Lord is the One that will see the work He has begun in you, through unto completion. Which of course, will be when we meet Him face to face in our new glorified digs. Our new glorified body, I was just trying to sound cool by saying, "digs". Lol..
I purposely said it that way, to show you that we Christians are just like everyone else, in that we like to have fun, still wanna come across as cool, unique and individual or whatever our thing is, just not prideful or immoral, or anything sinful.
We live a new more abundant life inside these vessels, that is pleasing to God and brings glory to Him. This is the fruit of the Spirit. His Spirit, the Paraclete, Who is working in us, doing all of the heavy lifting and comforting us, and rooting us onward to the finish line, by encouraging and enabling us. He is also sanctifying us, which of course is setting us apart from the world around us. Making us a peculiar people, something like God's chosen people, the Jews. Only, for them it was in the physical sense, as they were commanded to live in a way that was so incredibly different than anyone else, that they remained separate from everyone, thus ensuring a pure bloodline to the throne of David, and our Lord and King, the long awaited Messiah or Christ Jesus, Who will reign on David's throne forever.
But, in us the elect. It is "spiritual" and yes, we too, are a peculiar people, in the sense that we are merely sojournors in a land that is not our own, as we are just passing through, to reach the destination that God has placed the desire for, in our hearts.
Here is the tough part, and I can tell you this without concern of you turning and running the other way, because if indeed you are elect, then you, like myself and all of the brethren will be cast, in the furnace of affliction. Notice that I didn't say "cast into", like Daniel's three buddies, who were cast into a furnace in an effort to destroy them. Rather, I said "cast in" and the reason for this, is because for us, it is not for punishment and destruction, but discipline and admonishment and through affliction, we are being perfected in Christ or you could say, being made into the image or likeness of Christ. This is achieved by our suffering, as He did. This I believe is only one of the reasons behind what Paul meant when he said, to take up our cross and follow Him, and also, work out your salvation with fear an trembling.
When we are following Christ, we are the light of Christ, to the world around us. I am not saying we are Christ. But, when people see and hear a true blue born of God Christian soldier, there is such a vast difference between them and us, that those that remain rebellious against the Lord become uncomfortable because they love darkness and all the sinfulness that goes with it. They hate the light and shun it because it reveals the truth about their wickedness and the dark sinful condition of their heart,
We need to be on our guard from attacks by the evil one, who works his craft in and through those that remain spiritually dead in Adam, as they are lost and deceived. We will be persecuted for Christ's name sake. That, is one of the marks of a godly man. Just look at all that our Lord allowed, for Paul to suffer for Christ's name sake.
Also let us not forget that there is a spiritual battle for the mind, taking place, and the reading of the word, prayer and fellowship, are where we will find some of our best defense against any accusations from the evil one. Not to mention, both the word and prayer can be a quiet place of refuge, to shelter us from any of the storms we must go through in our trials.
I am confident, that the Lord has already begun a great work in you. Tonight when I head down to the lake, to spend time with the Lord. I will include you in my prayer.
Anyhow, I love you, as do all of the brethren that are is our gracious Lord, Jesus Christ.
Nobody cares bro
@@Peaceandtacos You must care because nobody else has ever gotten back to me on this before. Lol... I'm guessing it touched on a nerve..

It isn't supposed to tickle your ears. That was never the intent behind it. Your response, was spot on because it is a message of light and it runs contrary to the sinful darkness of the human heart. I guess you could call it the human condition?
