Thank you for all that good information. I will be travelling on QM2 to NY in April/May, so now I know what to expect, and I will try some of the different options you talked about.
We sailed on the QM2 April 2024, New York to Southampton, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Kings Court, we ate there mostly. We found the Britannia restaurant slow, food cold etc. Kings Court was superb, better variety easy to find a table for two, hotter food and you can help yourself, less stuffy! We had a great routine, breakfast Kings Court, deck walk, swim, gym a couple of hours which we enjoy, then afternoon tea and dinner in the Kings Court. We are not into the Gala evenings, our favourite evening bar was the Chart Room, the bar staff were fantastic, the atmosphere and live music really brilliant. Some excellent theatre and talks also. Back on there April 2025 Norwegian fiords, Southampton to Southampton.
Hi Kevin, thanks for watching, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Sounds like a great Transatlantic - you did the same direction that I did! Norway will be absolutely wonderful on QM2 - have the BEST time!
Thanks for the great dining guide. You a pleasure to watch. I will be taking the Queen Mary Two in March for 2 weeks and look forward to seeing in person what you have so excellently presented in this video.
This was a terrific video. We're on our first QMII sailing at the end of March. The dining covereage was comprehensive. I'm also trying to find out where to get coffee in the morning (as I prefer to have it before I'm dressed for the day and about an hour before my breakfast) as well as what bar/lounge experiences there are for drinks and live music.
I’m going on a cruise on QM2 with my friend next May. 4 nights, one day in Hamburg. I’ve never been on a cruise before. I bought it for myself and my friend because it was my friend’s 60th birthday this year so she has to wait until next May to get her present! I chose a Britannia Club Twin stateroom. It’s on top deck, 13. (Britannia club cabins are all on decks 12 and 13). In the Britannia Club restaurant, you retain the same table for the entirety of your cruise and you can turn up at any time during the dining opening hours to eat so that was one of the main attractions for me paying the bit extra for that option. You also get priority boarding with Britannia Club.
Oh, what a great present Fiona - I wish you were buying me a birthday present, haha! Have the best time, and please come back to let us know how you enjoy it!
Thank you! We were onboard in July/August, I enjoyed breakfast in the Corinthia Lounge and had a couple of hot dishes, as they are quite small but very good. We had one breakfast in Kings Court buffet, which ended with me in tears as it was so chaotic and so many little things went wrong, it was just awful. Plus the pancakes and waffles were just stodge and not enjoyable at all, and providing artificial maple syrup was unacceptable, I won't even buy that stuff at home. The breakfast in the Britannia restaurant was good but the saute potatoes on the second week (NY to Soton) were inedible. Also they give you an express menu for the first breakfast after embarkation in the Britannia restaurant that doesn't have as many options...I've no idea why but I'm glad we went another day as we would have been disappointed with they offering if we thought it was like that everyday. Room service came about 10 minutes early for us, for breakfast and I agree it should be within the time specified.
On my recent cruise there were some excellent speakers so I had to organize lunch around the speakers, usually just grabbed something in the Lido. I did have lunch one day in the Golden Lion Pub, Fish and Chips ith Mushy Peas for me. Dinner for me was always in the MDR (Fixed Dining)
Ahh, great to hear you had some really good speakers - I love when you end up tight for time simply due to the fact the lineup is too good 😂 Thanks for watching, Colin!
Hey! Thanks so much for watching - glad you enjoyed! So the Queens Room is just ‘first come first served’, so you just sit wherever. Generally not an issue unless it’s full and someone may like to share with you! The Britannia restaurant - I never struggled with a table for 1 at all!
Another great informative blog Fraser. We'll be on QM2 in January for 35 nights so hopefully enough time to try every option in the Golden Lion including Tikka Masala in the hot Caribbean. Looking forward to the remaining vlogs on QM2.
Ended up with the Fish & Chips at the Lion! but sadly, no steak pie 🥲 but it was soo good, think I had a total bloated out eating day with that, queens room tea, kings galley hotdog and carinthia lounge had this amazing jaffa cake eclair! had to push back main dining as late as possible I was that full. Think this was my best eating day at sea yet!
A great wealth of dining information well stated and organized !! May I ask if the Kings Court Alternative dining venue, on a formal night, requires formal wear or can one wear smart casual clothing ? Also at the King's Court buffet for dinner, what is the dress code ? Thank you so much again for your time and well done review ! Cheers ! marcia
Hi Marcia, thanks - I’m so glad you enjoyed! I didn’t dine there on formal night, but I believe the dress code is formal. In the main Kings Court buffet section, you really can wear whatever you like - it’s super casual in there! Hope this helps!
I have 1st breakfast in the Kings Court QM2 around 6:30. Coffee, orange juice and maybe some fruit. Then walks around the whole wrap-around Promenade Deck (x 2). 2nd Breakfast in the MDR (Britannia or Queens Grill) around 8:30. Eggs Benedict, or Full English. I avoid the Kings Court whenever possible (I didn't pay all that money to serve myself). Even on disembarkation morning, I head for the Britannia Restaurant or Queens Grill. I've 20 voyages (cruises and crossings) with Cunard on four ships (QM2, QE, QV, QE2), and am looking forward to my 15th time on QM2 in December (crossing to New York again).
I've done five or six crossings on the Queen Mary 2 and have another one booked for 2025. My only comment on this review is to add a note of caution regarding the King's Court. Particularly at breakfast but at every meal, the offerings can get dried out and way over-cooked. This certainly applies if you come rather late. Keep in mind that if what you want looks less than appetizing (solid egg yolks, dried out black pudding or roasts) you can ask the chef/attendant for a fresh serving and they will comply.
In the Kings Court there are soft drinks , tea and coffee, water stations and also speciality Teas dotted around the whole area. There are also a couple of Ice Cream machines. Also down in Connexions (computer area) just outside there are also Coffee and Tea Machines. In the Corinthia Lounge you can also get snacks at certain times of the day as well as the buffet.
Thanks for the upload. That gaudy looking main dining room couldn’t be further removed from the magnificent example on the original QM. Why can’t they get designers with talent and good taste for these ships. Hotels can do this why not Cunard? Having said that I will experience this ship one day as she’s the only real “liner” in service now.
Oh, the dining room was beautiful in person - a really lovely space to dine and enjoy a meal in! You really must try it some day - it’s a real experience, for sure!
I think the breakfast on room service is amazing considering there isn’t any charge. We ate at the pub and I agree the chicken tikka Masala is fantastic but I thought that fish and chips was awful. The fish was grey and mushy. I really enjoyed the afternoon tea. I do admit though I thought the food in the main dining room would be better. The desserts really let it down in my opinion
Hello! Ahh, I didn’t actually try the fish and chips - how sad it wasn’t good - that’s usually such a crowd pleaser! Thanks a lot for supporting my channel by watching today, Mel!
Too Bad That You Are Not Currently On The QM2 We Could Have Met. We Are Wrapping Up Our 26 Day Northern Lights Cruise Before We Disembark On November 20th In NY
Sailed on the ship this month. Lovely ship, but terrible service every day in main dining room, especially for breakfast, and Queens Room - not inclined to risk the experience again
Ahh, I’m so sad to read you didn’t find the service great. I expected it to be perfect on QM2, but will admit I also saw some failings. In terms of quality though, I was impressed with what I was eating! Thanks a lot for supporting my channel by watching!

Brilliant and informative as per usual mate! Class!
Thanks a lot, Shane!
Thank you for the break down of all the options, it sounds like they have a great variety for all cruising styles. What a beautiful ship!
Thanks so much for watching! QM2 really is a beauty! 😊
Thanks for the great dining guide. You a pleasure to watch. I will be taking the Queen Mary Two in March for 2 weeks and look forward to seeing in person what you have so excellently presented in this video.

Enjoyed this, thanks! I'm an early bird; always prefer breakfast by about 7:30.
Ahh, we’re cut from two very different pieces of cloth, haha!
Lovely video. 😊
Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks, Fraser, for the great video. I travel on QM2 in 6 weeks and feel much better prepared!

Yes I would have a curry on a hot weather cruise with lots of ice in my coke though, great vlog Fraser 😻
Curry all day for me…!! Thanks a lot for watching as always, Christine!
I have had the Chicken Tika Masala on QM2....and my mouth was watering wen I saw it in this video....yum...
Oh, it’s so tasty, right?! 🤤
Great vlog Frasier …..👏👏👏
Thanks so much!
I sampled the curry, and wonderful pie, in the Golden Lion when on QM2 in April in very hot weather!

Hey, thanks for watching! Interesting to see you faced some of the issues I did - especially the early room service in the morning… Argh!
Hi Fraser. A very comprehensive breakdown for sure. The only issue is the Holland America Line tee-shirt! Lol
Hi Stephen, thanks for watching! You get a mention in my next video 😊 Stay tuned!

My favorite Beef Wellington!
😊 🤤

Great video Fraser! Any issues getting a table for one, in the Britannia restaurant for dinner, or the Queens Room for afternoon tea?

Ha, I smiled with your comment - I could spend days just eating on this ship 😂 Thanks for watching!!
They also do afternoon tea in the Laurent Perrier champagne bar, but I believe there’s a $40 charge.
This is a great point!

Champagne bar has an afternoon tea. 40 each; Sir Samuels has an afternoon tea 15 each. ( I believe) and corinthian lounge ( included). Jus FYI.

Very helpful. Is there someplace to get snacks, such as ice cream or a soft drink, during the day?
