My first Thanksgiving without my mom this year....she made sure i had all game systems back in tha day with first start with my Nintendo back in 86'....great video brother....much respect!!!!
I've recently lost my mother and I know what a mother really means in our lives. A video like this would make your mom proud of you. Cheers from Italy.
From a kid with no means from the city of Compton, this video touched me deeply. I am also a product of my mother's hard work and sacrifice and and I am deeply appreciative as well as reflective of your words. Great job SLX. Great job !
You were raised good bro. Brought a little tear into my eyes. Made me appreciate my parents even more. These little things in your life can have a huge impact on you as you grow up. Always remember them and cherish those memories
I will forever be thankful for my mother. She passed away on November 1st this year after a 5 year battle with colon cancer, so this is my first Thanksgiving without her. She (along with my dad at the time) helped me get going in my appreciation for games and I'll never forget getting my Sega Genesis for Christmas in 1992. My parents would split a few years later, but mom was always there for me and worked hard so she could get the games I wanted for Christmas, or let me rent games at Blockbuster fairly often. Mom would always give me spare change to be able to go play games at the mall or even at the grocery store (remember when grocery stores had arcade games?). Something I started doing to remember her is to put her initials on the name entry screen instead of mine when I hit the leaderboards of my favorite arcade titles, rather it was at home or in public for all to see. I miss her so much and can't thank her enough for all she's done in my life.
Happy Thanksgiving. 1989 was for sure a special year and your story is uncannily similar to my experience and let's be thankful for mom's pulling thru for their kids. I got ghouls and ghosts with my Genesis and played for hours and hours ad nauseum.
Although we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Europe I can only wish you Happy Holidays and thank you for one of the best contents out there. Best wishes from Spain.
Those final words tho... You're a beautiful person able to value the good things in your life, and I believe that's one of the key reasons behind the success of your great channel. Keep on doing what you do, every single video is super entertaining. Happy Thanksgiving, SLX!
this is the first thanksgiving without my mom, or any family of mine for that matter. She was 85% of ur story, she worked hard gave me an my sis everything. She passed this February and life aint the same. However she did buy me my first imports (Xmen Cota, DBZ Shinbutouden, Battle Arena Toshinden Remix) for Saturn. Technically she introduced me to import gaming. Love you mom, to all the great mothers who are with us still and those whom have passed. I speak for all of us LOVE YOU MOM
SLX this video was so amazing, I've been watching you for years now and few can tell a story that connects with your fans like you. My single mom got me my Genesis on Christmas of 1993 and this video just reminded me of how special those times were, thank you!
Absolutely love hearing peoples childhood gaming memories. Shoot reminds me of my mom being a single mother and still finding a way to buy me a sega genesis for my birthday.
Another reason why you are one of the greatest TH-camrs ever. You deeply care about the consoles you talk about. And you deeply care about your wonderful family, your mother was a stellar human being and reminds me a lot of my mother with the dedication to make her children happy. Thanks again for another amazing video Sega Lord X!
Fantastic tribute SLX! Your story is touching and I thank your mom too. She's done a fine job raising you up. Here's to all of the great moms out there who sacrificed for their kids.
Happy thanksgiving. Keep up the good work. Content like this is what makes your channel so unique. It's lived experience vs. reciting wikipedia articles.
Lovely to hear you share this. I will never forget the Christmas when I got my megadrive with golden axe. I'm not sure if it was 89 or 90 in the UK. I'd wanted a console for years after loving the master system at my friend's house. My folks got me a Japanese megadrive by mail order plus golden axe on top plus a little tv. I felt the luckiest kid in the world. Was like a dream. So appreciate it. Then I got a master system converter with Christmas money and started to rent master system games from a local store. Great times :)
This story resonates with a lot of us, there are indeed many similarities and I believe we give many things much more value, or at least, a different perspective than later generations would understand. I'll say that even today, we don't need to look much into it, there are millions and millions of kids that would be in heaven with a black & white TV and an Atari 2600. Imagine a Master System, NES or Mega Drive. This is a bit weird to say it at this point, but well, it's true.
All heil Mama-Lord X!!! Thank you for creating and raising such an outstanding guy who I'm very proud to support on Patreon for over 2 years now. We are very grateful for you!
I got chills listening to your story, bro. It wasn't easy being a gamer growing up middle class in Brazil. I remember we had a 2600 we got second hand from some relatives around 1996 (yeah, things arrived way later in South America). Then my parents saved enough for an SNES a year later, and a PS1 around 1999. The PlayStation was my main console for years on. My parents never could afford to get me a PS2, as it was almost the price of minimum wage at the time. Hearing you, brought me back like nothing else before. Thanks and keep up the amazing work.
Dude, you made me cry, loved the video. I almost lost my mom years ago, when i was a kid she bought me computers somewhat modern. Now i work in IT, and i loving it, thanks to her.
Im from the UK, but it's eerie how close your experience was to mine, down to some oddly specific details haha. My mum was the same, we had almost nothing but she somehow always came through at Christmas. You always come across as such a genuine, kind and thoughtful person. Happy Holidays to you and your family
Thanks ❤ Got my first 14” colour TV when a neighbour put it outside their house. They had dropped it and the case has cracked open. I politely knocked and asked if I may look at fixing it. They told 12 year old me, Sue and if you can fix it you can keep it. I took it home reconnected the tube and used masking tape to stick the case back together. That TV served me from Zx spectrum, to Amiga, to NES, mega drive & CD32. I upgraded when I got my SNES. Only the SNES and mega drive were new Xmas presents the rest were all bargained for our swapped in one way or another 🙏 my kids have had iPhones since they were 2 😬🤦🏻♂️
Now that's a wonderful tribute to your mom and it was inspired story for Thanksgiving tradition this Holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. This takes me back to my retro life in the past about collecting games from Nintendo and Sega Genesis in late 80s to mid 90s
6:03 Sega Lord X - " I knew what I had to do...." Altered beast "POWER UP!!" Nice edit my guy. God I miss my collection....this does make me sad that I had to sell it all in 2013 because of life.... Just so greatful for emulation at least and the amount of miles I got out those systems that were practically on 24/7. They were not mint condition and extremely well worn with issues when they went.... You were very lucky my guy with your mum. Same with me with my dad. He got me it all (im a bit younger than you) - but today he's 80 and suddenly got bowel cancer and I'm so scared of losing him.... He has always been here for me and my now wife and daughter even today... Make the most of your parents guys.... although I understand not all parents are loving and go all out.
I loved the origin story man! Mums are the best aren't they? My dad left my mum when I was 2, so mum bought us a Sega Mega Drive to keep us busy. I absolutely fell in love with it and it led to strong bonds between my family members and I. My dad eventually came back to live with us, but due to my and my brothers' dependence on our new 'Sega Mega Dad', my mum continued to buy consoles and games for us for years to come. I have my mum to thank for our Mega Drive, Saturn, PlayStation, Gamecube and first ever PC (that we told dad was for homework LOL), as well as my introduction to games like Diablo, Resident Evil, Sonic, Rayman, etc. Thanks for putting out awesome content bud!
this story just reminded me of when i got my ps5 and had to play it on a 720p 24inch tv in my room since i was saving up for large screen tv and took me around a year to do so..... God bless ur mom man. and let people say what they want to say, all u have is our respect SLX !
This is such an awesome story as to your channel, pretty much since 2018 and this was a really touching story with how your mom Help you so much and made sure you and your sisters never wanted for everything which lead to getting your NES and your Genesis It’s awesome that you had such a great relationship with your mother who made you the man that you are today, but you’ve mentioned your mother a couple of times on your channel and I can see just by listening do you share this Thanksgiving experience with us how much your mum worked hard to make sure you had a great Christmas And honestly, I am very touched by hearing your story. I am thankful that I discovered your channel and happy Thanksgiving.
This was an awesome tribute that I was not expecting. I clicked on your video because I love your content, and came away with a full heart and a smile. Thanks for you channel, you have made a lot of rough times a lot smoother. It's great to know that there are other Sega fans out there that had similar experiences
Happy thanksgiving mate. Your videos got me into the Sega Saturn and other Sega games. Thank you for showing me a new side of gaming I never would have experienced otherwise.
Happy Thanksgiving Sega Lord X, moms are great. Your story is, for many I'm certain, one we can appreciate. I had a school field trip, for lunch we stopped at a Pizza Hut, I spent all my quarters on TMNT arcade, when we got to the gift shop of the trip, I couldn't buy anything. When I got home. I cried to my mom, saying I wasted my money, she asked did I have fun playing the game, I said yes obviously. She said to me it wasn't a waste. A powerful lesson. Atari to Nintendo, to Sega having limited resources and means...we have a greater understanding and appreciation for the blessings no matter how small. Love your vids, may many blessings come to you and yours.
This is a great vid (as all your vids are) I love hearing origin stories. Thank you so much for sharing. Truly inspirational.Your Mom sounds like a truly remarkable person. And major props to the helpful folks along the way!!! Superb Video!!!
Happy Thanksgiving! Been a fan for so long! I remember getting my sega genesis with sonic 2 in the package. It was one of the last gifts my dad got me before he passed! Keep doing great things! God bless!
❤ glad you remember where you come from. I too came from nothing and am happy that I grew up with nothing it made me appreciative of everything I have. Happy Thanksgiving Giving ❤
Mate, what an awesome story your life and journey has been. Your honesty and integrity is humbling. Peace and Love to you and your family. PS: "You will catch me next time."
And thank you Sega Lord X. you made me think back to 1992 when my mom was working at a Safeway butcher shop to get me and my siblings a genesis with the sonic pack in. Awesome times. I still work out to Golden Axe, Super Monaco GP, and Streets of Rage. 10:43 You took me right back. I’m grateful for your mom too because without her, we wouldn’t have all this great content that we depend on week in and week out. You get me through my workdays.
It's videos like this that make me so happy to follow you. We've never met, but you come across as such a friend and kind soul. Here's to hoping for many many more years of Sega Lord X.
Wow, I had the reverse financial upbringing. Comfortable to dirt poor in my latter childhood. But that got me working and saving. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Moms is magic maker. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving... What a flash back, i had both of these game systems in the mid 80's & early 90's 😌♥️, ahh the good ole days✨️... I still love to play Streets Of Rage til this day, I am 43yrs old✨️
Love your channel and this kind of wholesome video's is why I keep coming back to it. Even though I'm European and thanksgiving doesn't mean anything to me: happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the entertainment!
Thank you for this video, I know you said your dad had issues, and here how hard your mom had to work, it seems like a somewhat tough childhood, but seems there were a lot of good times as well. Happy thanksgiving Sega Lord X!
Dude, I too was quite poor. I'm Brazilian, video games were so much expensive. Yet, my parents managed to give me a mega drive around 94'. I played about every "genesis" game on black and white TV. When my father retired, he gave me a color TV, I had Snes already by then. Im so grateful to them for always giving those consoles, when we were so poor.
Happy Thanksgiving! We appreciate your channel and the wealth of knowledge and entertainment you provide. Big shoutout and warm wishes to all the wonderful moms out there!
Your mom sounds a lot like mine. In my case, my parents separated when I was about 2 years old, so my mom took me and my older sister to live with my grandparents in the projects because she couldn't afford a place on her own at the time. 3 years later, we did get our own place, but it was still public housing because she just didn't make the kind of money to afford something better. In spite of that, she was still able to make ends meet while also nurturing my love for gaming. I don't know how she managed it, but I was very lucky to get two games a year (birthday & Christmas) because she knew how much I loved video games. From getting a NES in the late 80s to a PS2 after graduating from high school in 2000, she was always the one who made it all possible. Thanks for the video, and God bless!
Who could not click like on that? Man. Happy whatever you celebrate

I really appreciate this video. You probably have a bunch of kids watching your videos, and giving kudos to your mom teaching you the good values just goes a mile to show the new generation what should they look forward to become.
I'm so happy and grateful for your family's work ethic and your dedication to gaming and hard work. Congratulations on 153k subs. You've earned and deserve them. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you my friend, really got tears in my eyes, remembering how hard my parents worked for my brother, my sister and me. Today I'm a grown man with much more we had when we were kids thanks to my parents. Thank you again for sharing
My dad pretty much helped me get my NES, most of the money I made by recycling aluminum cans, took the time to smash and bag them to make sure the bags they were in were nice and heavy. Both my mom and dad got my SNES for me, my Genesis that I bought in 1998, my own work money covered that Model 2. My Model 1 I can thank my ex-girlfriend for, she took me 60 miles out of the way, and I scored it for free due to how much money I spent on collecting game software from that shop. The shop guys were thankful that I spent over $100 at their store. We were going to the zoo not far from there, but we got there a little too late as they closed for the day, and the Play N Trade was 10 minutes away from there.
Brians really are the best, aren’t we? 🤣🤣🤣 Love the great stories, the love and respect for the family, friends, and the opportunities interlaced with all this great gaming nostalgia. Happy Thanksgiving, grateful for the channel and all your great work!
I'm in tears, I had almost the same life and the same hardworking and generous mother. This is what Thanksgiving is all about, being thankful for the people who helped us make our lives memorable, fruitful and happy!
Indeed, really pays to think about what you're thankful for. My best friend ended up taking his own life two weeks ago, and our nightly routine was to gather into my bedroom, and play Gunstar Heroes. And that first night when I played alone, gave me time to think, and all in all, be thankful for the time I had with him. Rest in Peace Geo.
Looking at the area that you first grew up in, you said it was the poorest area in town. Looking at the pictures, it looks like a dream place to grow up. My kids are growing up in Tokyo, so they don't get to see large yards or nature. The grass is always greener :) Also at 7:08 I thought it was funny to see the sing below. A barber shop that sells hot dogs? I'd definitely go.
I'm only 22, but I also remember being really poor in the early 2000's and having to play my PS1 on a small black and white TV. Dad managed to score that PS1 imported from Japan with the help of some family there, it was modchipped and came with 3 games. Managed to acquire quite a good "collection" of pirated games hahaha
There is so much of this video I can relate too. My early years like many were in a lower income type situation, and when my parents separated it made for some tough times. My NES was at my mom's and I played it on a small black and white TV for many years. However she was able to supply me with games due to working at a local video store and so when the games were being fazed out she was able to grab them. My dad would also indulge my passion later on and when I went to live with him, he would be the one to get a PlayStation, and introduce me to PC gaming. Everything worked out as it should, as both parties worked hard to get where they're at today, and also instilled that work ethic. Thank you for sharing your story my friend, and happy Thanksgiving
Aww man what a beautiful video you put together and a nice way to pay tribute to your dear mother by showing how grateful you are to her for getting you through your childhood and into teenage years. Loved the family pictures and thank you for showing them. I think a lot of people give the impression that you're maybe rich because there's not many gamers out there that have had the time, funds and resources to play virtually anything and everything back then like you, from Atari 2600 all the way to XBox 360 and PS3. I for one have not been able to experience not even half of what you have in my 39 years of life. You're one of the very lucky ones and I wish you and your family all the best for the future.
I could honestly tell you came from humble beginnings, just from your overall demeanor. I'm an inner city Chicano that didn't come from much but my parents definitely set that foundation that hard work could pay off over time.
Bro, I freaking love you man. I am 43, grew up with a poor family in Georgia. Started off with the Intellivision moved on to the Commodore 64. It took me this long in life to realize my parents WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY, to make us kids happy. Thanks for this clip
I'm thankful for my mom teaching me the value of taking care of my things. My most treasured game is Burning Rangers and I got it in Christmas '98 when I was 12. I still have that copy and am grateful since in recent years that game has gone up in price so much. I love telling people about it because there are so many people who've never played it and always like to ask questions about it.
It amazes me how similar our upbringings were. I was one state away, in Kentucky. We are the same age though and both had hard-working, big-hearted mothers. Thank you for sharing with us today.
Sounds like your Mum did a great job, did all she could for you and taught you how to respect and appreciate what you have. Love watching your videos. Happy Thanksgiving.
A fellow gaming parasite lol. I lived off friends and neighbors for gaming for most of my childhood and early teen. The first console we got that was ours was a N64. From there I got everything cause my family's finances got way better. Though times. Happy Thanksgiving!!
I've seen most if not all of your videos. This by Far is the best you've ever made! ...and I love how your sincere gratitude towards your mother lays the groundwork for the entire video. Awesome stuff!!
Have been enjoying your channel for about three years now, and I can say that this video is easily my favorite of all of them. Love the human stories, life lessons, and heartfelt appreciation for what you’ve been given.
Love this video, my mother was the one that got me my Nintendo and Sega Genesis, along with the Game Boy and Game Gear. Have to love your Mother for working hard to make her kiddos happy.
My first Thanksgiving without my mom this year....she made sure i had all game systems back in tha day with first start with my Nintendo back in 86'....great video brother....much respect!!!!
I’m sorry for your loss, hope she rest in peace
Sorry for your loss man, hope you have a blessed day
My mom acting like she didn't get me anything one year. Mom goes, look behind the couch. Go and find a Snes, I damn near did cartwheels, lol.
God bless you and your mom and make her proud in heaven. Hope I can do likewise for my dad.
Thanks for sharing

Hands down top 3 greatest episodes! I can relate, limited means grow into bountiful blessings in the presence of good people.

Thanks ❤

Thanks for sharing your story, Mr. SLX. I'm thankful for your dedication to the hobby and these videos for the rest of us to enjoy.
Great and very familiar story. Many of us enthusiasts come from a childhood where we were unable to afford game consoles and games at the time.

This is a great vid (as all your vids are) I love hearing origin stories. Thank you so much for sharing. Truly inspirational.Your Mom sounds like a truly remarkable person. And major props to the helpful folks along the way!!! Superb Video!!!
Happy Thanksgiving Mel, your story is a great message for all of us to be truly thankful for who and what we have in our lives!
Very relatable story, SLX. Happy Thanksgiving!
I lost my mom 6 years ago I’m 43. Our stories are very similar, I owe my mother everything. I hope you had a great thanksgiving.
That was such a nice video, thanks for making awesome stuff, hope you have a fantastic holiday season!
Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful part of your story with us!
The love and respect you have for your mother is great to hear. You are a class act SLX!
It's videos like this that make me so happy to follow you. We've never met, but you come across as such a friend and kind soul. Here's to hoping for many many more years of Sega Lord X.
Happy thanksgiving!
Thank you for providing quality entertainement.
No way! Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I still love to play Streets Of Rage til this day, I am 43yrs old✨️
I cannot tell you how close to home this hits. Thank you so much!
Wholesome Lord X. Love hearing these kinds of stories from TH-camrs about their youth. Happy Thanksgiving fam!
I like these personal videos you make, I feel like I relate to your experiences a lot.
Aw yeah! Always happy to see a vid from you!
Happy thanksgiving Sega Lord X to you and your family.
Fantastic video. Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm so happy and grateful for your family's work ethic and your dedication to gaming and hard work. Congratulations on 153k subs. You've earned and deserve them. Happy Thanksgiving!
Who's been trying to CALL YOU SPOILED? IF they were a Subscriber they'd KNOW you WORKED for all your stuff growing up. MUCH RESPECT.
Should have released it on mother's day ....great video nice subliminal message your the best
You never wait to tell someone you care. They may not be here later.
@@SegaLordX my condolences.... happy Thanksgiving
The grass is always greener :)
Also at 7:08 I thought it was funny to see the sing below. A barber shop that sells hot dogs? I'd definitely go.
Its been remodeled and gentrified since my time. Those are modern pics.
Your Mom is a treasure 😊 this video brought me a tears to my eyes..I lost my mom 3 years ago. Treasure your love ones much as possible..
What a great story. Happy Thanksgiving.
Definitely a lot to be thankful for I appreciate these kind of episodes as much as anything else
I'm right there with ya. I played my Master System on a tiny black and white TV for a while before finally getting a hand me down color screen.
I thought I was the only person to suffer black amd white NES gaming....anything to play, man. Anything to play...
TY for your content SLX, happy holidays
Love this video, my mother was the one that got me my Nintendo and Sega Genesis, along with the Game Boy and Game Gear. Have to love your Mother for working hard to make her kiddos happy.
That personal touch has always been one of my favourite things about your videos, and you just dialled it up to 11 here!
