    This Week in MXA, episode 182, presented by O'Neal is all about track conditions and tire testing. Josh Mosiman talks on what the tracks were like at the first three rounds of the Outdoors, comparing how they are prepping the national tracks this year, versus the last few years. Plus, Josh talks on the highlights from the racing at the 2024 Thunder Valley National, and the MXA wrecking crew goes tire testing with Dunlop on the new Dunlop AT82 off-road tires.

      @keithh1380 That's how you lose half the field. Mxgp tracks are rough as hell and they battle left and right. It comes down tot he rider. The tracks shouldn't adapt to the rider. The rider should adapt to the track. It's what separates the good from the best.

      @@Slipvayne1 Mxgp tracks are huge and more high speed that's why the battles are good. Losing half the field isn't going to make for better battles and the battles were always better back in the day because the tracks were less rough and more high speed. The new prep is much better but there should be a mixture of both. The entire track doesn't need to be prepped the same. It's nice to have parts of the track where riders can go really fast and make creative passes. It's also nice to have a few sections that are really gnarly and test the riders. I've always found it odd that tracks are ripped to the same depth and watered the same amount all the way around. Same goes for dumping in sand, there's no need to dump sand around the entire track.

    • @daneg
      @daneg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      nah. I'm a pass on that. it homogenizes the tracks too much. pala should be hard and shallow. thunder valley should be ripped deep. southwick and unadilla should be natural terrain feats of endurance. etc. I'm not a fan of this "sand section in each race" type of homogenization. imo, SX should be homogenized tracks. the rutting up shouldn't be such an issue. but in MX? the venue is the thing, imo.

    Like the less deep and less watered tracks, makes all 40 riders more competitive and equal.
    As far as the AT82, l am an Off Road rider, and am sad to see the AT81 being discontinued 😞. It is such a a great versatile tire with such great grip everywhere! The AT82, is almost a copy of the New 34 with a different center knob. I know by the knob placement, it will not be as good Off Road as the AT81.

    There needs to be a fine line between rough and fast. The tracks this year have been awesome so far, too rough is boring, and too fast is boring because there’s no passing. Biggest thing I want to see is a viable inside and outside. Make both lines as even as possible, all insides blow, and only outsides blow even more.

    Let's go back to "natural terrain", at least for at least one national.
    Wasn't, Unadilla originally a natural terrain track used only once a year for the early Pro races?

    And in fact, only on a real motocross track do you understand why ´mx bikes have aluminum frames :D
    As you said yourself Josh. MotoGP, SBK, if you want to ride on a smooth track that never changes.
