In a real life fight, the whale would win, probably 90% of the time, but in the Squid's 10 percent, it's mostly a win because they escape. However squids can kill baby whales. One more thing. In the mod, whales need air to breathe, and they were drowning. That's why the squids won.

For your question as to which would win in a real fight, If how things are in nature, you'd know that squids are some of the natural preys of some whales. But it' appears that in minecraft, the prey beats the Predator

Sperm whale actually hunt colossal squid naturally irl. They almost always win
Also that whale facing upwards is gow they sleep
