    Recently replaced a Sealy Hybrid Lacy Firm that started having issues within 4 months. I'm 6'2 and 177lbs and that's ridiculous. I chose to replace this with Sealy Posturepedic Brennaman Plus Firm mattress, which feels like I'm sleeping on a bed of Marshmallows. This one is going right back. I've decided to purchase the Fieldcrest Natural Firm, which blows the doors off of the Sealy line. It’s worth the upcharge in price. I will never buy a Sealy again. Totally done with them.

  • @jenniferphillips3195

    I definitely prefer firmer mattresses, but it would be nice to have a medium one with that extra softness in my guest room maybe, for the rare times I am in the type of pain where I would need the extra softness. With the health issues I have, the extra firm and really good support is what I need, but I do have nights that I just can't get comfortable and I'm not sure, but I think that the extra softness might help.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jennifer. For a guest room, we would typically recommend something in the medium range -- tends to be the preference of most people. And of you choose a model that has some memory foam in the top layer, you might find that gives you the pressure relief you need on occasion.
      Hope that helps!

    I have the Sealy Posturepedic innerspring mattress it's a year old and has the center thrid with extra memory foam. It's the memory foam causing inflammation that I have had. I flipped the no flip mattress as a test run to see if the inflammation in my hips, feet, back, arms, shoulders would change or dissipate within a week the inflammation has calmed down almost gone. The other issue the mattress is soft and is the energetic mattress that I have to sleep horizontally at the lower third of the mattress no matter if it's on the foam side or the no flip side because I it's the least position that allows me to get some sleep. Why didn't I return the mattress? Well I did return the initial side sleeper due to intense back pain by the third day. The store would only allow an exchange not a return because they could not sell the mattress to recupe losses. I was always a Sealy Posterpedic brand customer most of my adult life until this memory foam crap was developed. I thought of the Sleep Number bed of which I owned one until 2019 which made it 18 years of use. At the time it didn't have the memory foam now Sleep Number has memory foam. I tried a Therapeutic mattress likewise memory foam. Brand new mattress I ended up giving it away because of inflammation. Had I known Sealy uses memory foam I never would have bought the Sealy set. All I want is a classic mattress without memory foam. I can't wear memory foam in shoes.... try finding shoes without that health damaging crap in it.... almost impossible. When you ruin the health of your customer base you have no more customers. What's wrong with all these original American companies that used to make great quality and affordable products that customers loved????

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Donna. Memory foam is pretty polarizing -- some people love it, and for others it just really does not work for them. There are definitely mattresses today that do not use any memory foam at all. For a traditional-feeling mattress, Saatva comes to mind. It's an innerspring mattress with comfort foams, but none of that memory foam feeling. Here's the link to our review -- it's also made in the USA. www.goodbed.com/reviews/saatva-mattress-review/
      Some other mattresses you might explore with no memory foam:
      Allswell -- traditional feeling and no memory foam: www.goodbed.com/reviews/allswell-mattress-review/
      Brooklyn Signature -- hybrid mattress with springs and no memory foam: www.goodbed.com/reviews/brooklyn-signature-mattress-review/

    Hi Thanks for uploading this it helped a lot!
    I went to a mattress store and laid on a Sealy Hybrid Gold Premium 15-Inch Ultra Plush and really loved it. I've been doing research on that one vs Sealy Posturepedic Plus Exuberant II 15" Ultra Plush Mattress and they look exactly the same spec wise. Is there any real notable difference between the Gold Premium and Exuberant? And is it worth the $500-600 price difference?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Yusuf. We haven't had the Gold Premium model in our test room, but it certainly appears to be very similar. The Exuberant may have an inch or two more memory, but probably not enough to make a huge difference.
      Sealy (and other store brands) typically make dozens of slight variations so that stores can sell them as "exclusives" yet they are very similar from a feel/functionality standpoint.
      Hope that's helpful!!

    Hello and I like your reviews very much. I like the Sealy Posturepedic Plus line, but wonder is it worth the $200 price difference than purchasing the Response Premium? Is the PPlus the way to go because it has the newer technology?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Dayna. It really depends on what you want. The two collections have a lot in common. The Response models have a more traditional look, with a smooth cover, while the Plus collection models have very deep quilting on top. Both come in varying feels and heights, and in both collections, the more expensive models have more memory foam. So in both collections, you should be able to find a feel/firmness that works for you. If you like a more traditional mattress look at feel, check out the Response. If you want that really deep quilting, take a closer look at the Plus.
      Hope that helps!

    What bed do you own?
    Also wonder how you think the Sealy brand compares to stearns and foster. Obviosuly many preference variables but what about over all quality in general?? We're shopping for a new mattress that we plan to have for a while. Thx!
    Your reviews are the best wow.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Laura. Thank you for the comment. Our founder Mike never divulges his own bed -- because GoodBed believes mattress shopping is entirely personal. So while his bed works great for him, it may be a poor choice for you.
      As far as Sealy vs Stearns & Foster, both have a wide range of mattresses. Stearns & Foster certainly has more choice on the upper end that use more luxurious and higher quality materials and construction. That said, they also have some starting models that overlap more in price and quality with the higher end of the Sealy line. In general, in cases where prices are comparable, we don't think there's any reason to believe that one will hold up longer or less than another, especially since they are made by the same company. So, apart from your budget, if you are set on one of those two brands, your choice might come down to your retailer and how confident you are in the sales, delivery and exchange service. If you aren't thrilled with your bed once you get it, what will they do to make sure you are happy?
      Hope that's helpful!

      The plus models of the posturpedic are the exact same as Sterns current intro model, the studio. Except you can get this in a queen on sale for $900 and the studio is regularly 1800-2000 and never goes on sale.

    • @saint_snow
      @saint_snow 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MariaElena-re7dt they can yes. However I will say that when buying an adjustable base, make sure the foundation of it doesn't have any give whatsoever. I had an adjustable base and I sold it. It was a bit of a cheaper model and just not supportive enough. Also if you aren't a stick back sleeper there isnt a point in getting one.
      If you already use one or have one that works for you then by all means, the bed will work fine on it.

  • @anzio304
    @anzio304 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. I bought the ulta plush exuberant II 15", but it only measures 13 1/2 inches. Noticeably different from my previous 15" Sealy. Is there a great manufacturing range of height in your experience with Sealy? Wondering if I should exchange.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. That's a pretty big difference. Certainly we can see an inch of variation -- it often has to do with where they measure, at the side, at the corner, or in the middle. And especially with mattresses that have a puffy quilted top, it can be hard to tell exactly where they've measured. I suppose I would first check the label and make sure you were sent the correct model, because there are others that measure shorter.
      Now, is it worth send it back? Well, that's up to you. If you intended it to fit into a specific piece of furniture, then maybe? But if you're sleeping well and like it, then maybe it's not worth it. Up to you!

    Will that top wear out quickly on the exuberant models like pillow tops?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and thanks for the question. Just generally, a mattress with a very soft pillow top has the potential to soften up further down the line. We would not call this 'wearing out' but some softening can be expected as the years go on, and that's just because the materials are starting out softer in the first place. Of course, that is true of all mattresses, but sometimes those that are very soft on top will see that happen sooner.
      You do still have a warranty, however, to protect against any severe body impressions that may form. For most hybrid mattresses it's about 1.5", so you do have that protection.
      Hope that helps!

    What are the major differences between a Sealy Posturepedic 14 in Humbolt ltd cushion pillow top mattress versus a Sealy Posturepedic 14 in Grand Avenue cushion firm pillow top?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is that they are sold at different stores -- one at BJs and one at JC Penney. It's very common for Sealy to make slight design variations and give a mattress a different name -- then the store can sell it as an "exclusive". In reality, the differences are likely small -- different cover fabric, maybe a slightly different foam.
      Hope that helps!

      @@goodbed Thanks for the link; any reason why Big Fig isn't listed there? I watched all your reviews and stuff along with other peeps too and it just seems like the Titan and some others won't be sturdy enough over a long period of time. It took me like 4 years to find a gaming chair for him that won't break down.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi again. Big Fig is just one we haven't gotten to reviewing -- after COVID restrictions were put in place, we lost access to our facility where we review products. So we have a bit of a back log that we can't wait to get back to.
      As for the longevity of mattresses that are marketed for heavy people, we look to the manufacturer's policies for some guidance. For the Titan, the standard 1" body impression warranty Brooklyn Bedding uses for all of its products applies. (Body impressions are what I'm assuming you are most concerned about.) Some manufactures go better than that, though.
      King Koil, for example, warrants its Extended Life (XL) mattress for body impressions of 1/2" or more -- that is the best body impression warranty we have seen, and in our view would certainly give good peace of mind in terms of durability.
      www.goodbed.com/reviews/king-koil-world-extended-life-mattress-preview/
      The Hybrid Infinity from Sit 'n' Sleep also has a good one -- 3/4", along with some of the strongest coils we have seen in a mattress. So while not specifically marketed for heavier people, we thought that one would really be a contender. Here's our review: www.goodbed.com/reviews/hybrid-infinity-mattress-preview/

    I looked at this bed in JCPennys last weekend and while I prefer a firm mattress I figured the medium would be good for me and my husband since we currently have a Serta super pillow top. That said the display was a queen size with one half of the mattress supposedly being the medium and the other half represented as the soft. Both me, my husband and the sales representative felt like the soft side was firmer than the medium side. Since You didn’t explain any remarkable differences between the two mattresses we couldn’t understand why the soft side would feel firmer than the medium side. The representative gave me a copy of the brochure and said I should google each of the different foam materials to better understand. I was like don’t you know this? That said any advise you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

      Ah -- we don't have information on the 'Porteer'. It is probably a store exclusive to JC Penneys rather than one of Sealy's collections that are available in lots of other stores (the Opportune, Satisfied, and Exuberant lines). So we don't have information on that materials of the mattress you saw. Sealy (and other mattress makers) do this all the time -- they create 'exclusive' models for particular stores so you can't compare prices with other stores.
      So I don't know which of the Posturepedic Plus mattresses would be most similar to the "Porteer"

      Darn it! I swear I answered your question a couple of days ago, but I don't see it. Anyway -- no. These Sealy models are not certified Greenguard Gold or OEKO-tek. The big brands have been slower to apply for these certifications than the smaller brands.
      There's a good list on US-MAttress of certified models: us.mattress.zone/greenguard-gold-certified-mattresses/
      Just looking at that list, one of the least expensive is the Nest Love & Sleep -- it wasn't Greenguard Gold certified when we reviewed it, but it is now. Here's our review: th-cam.com/video/G7oAFs8kr84/w-d-xo.html
      That mattress is about $700 in a queen size, but right now they are running a holiday sale that brings the price down to $525. Here's the link -- use code HIBERNATE to get that deal: www.goodbed.com/o/d/3241/nest-bedding/
      Not trying to steer you to that mattress in particular -- we've been tracking holiday deals and that's certainly a good one if you are looking for a Greenguard certified model.
      Hope that's helpful!

So our best suggestions from what we've tested would be those Tuft & Needle models. I also don't know of anyone in Canada testing models as well as we do. I have very bad arthritis and chronic unrelenting pain. I purchased one of these Sealy Pillow Top mattresses.
    The problem now is I don’t want to get out of the bed. This mattress is so comfortable I feel like I died and went to heaven. I also purchased one of the movable adjusting bases. Between the mattress and the base they are without a doubt the best purchase I’ve made in years. I just wish I would have purchased this bed sooner. The one thing that I do find quizzical is --- the length of the mattress. I am 5’6 1/2 in and my head exactly meets the top of the mattress and my feet are at the very edge of the bottom of the mattress. If someone is 6 feet tall -- their feet would be hanging over the bottom of the mattress. I don’t get it. What gives with that ?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lily. Thanks for your comment and we're so happy this solution is working for you!
      I assume you are referring to the mattress in its articulated/bent position. The answer is that mattresses sizes were standardized way before adjustable bases were a "thing" and all of our furniture, frames, and even bedrooms are designed around those standard sizes. But as you note, when you fold a mattress like a big taco, you lose a lot of the length.
      The best, though imperfect, solution for taller folks who want to use an adjustable base is to go with a California king size. This size is four inches longer than a standard bed.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thanks for the comment.
      JC Penny contracts with Sealy to offer "exclusive" mattresses -- that means they are only available at JC Penny, and it's virtually impossible to find any info on them except from the store. It makes it really hard to tell where these models might compare to others in the Posturepedic Plus lineup, and that's really the whole point, that consumers can't easily compare apples to apples.
      One plus is that the JC Penney versions ARE using the same little icons that we discuss in our video -- so depending which mattress you are looking at, you could match up the icons with the mattresses we discuss. That should give you a pretty good comparison.

    Does this mattress use a box spring?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Karen. Thanks for the comment. This mattress (indeed any mattress) can be placed directly on the floor, or needs some kind of supportive foundation or frame. The manufacturers typically have a page on their website outlining the type of foundation that's acceptable. Today's mattresses are quite heavy, and for that reason, most recommend a foundation or frame with center support -- usually an additional leg in the middle, or for a box-type foundation, wood slats that go all the way across.
      We have an article on GoodBed about the different types: www.goodbed.com/mattress-foundation/
      Hope that helps!

      @@JoshuaCollins Fair enough! Sometimes people like to understand why things work, and in this case I personally find that to be a helpful and relatable analogy to understand the physics of why denser materials are better conductors (and therefore feel cooler to the touch). Clearly it's not helpful for everyone though! 😆 Nonetheless, we sincerely appreciate the feedback. Have a great evening.

    • @JoshuaCollins
      @JoshuaCollins 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@goodbed In the interest of why things work, here's the primary reason why marble feels cooler than wood:
      Density does have an effect, but it is more related to the material’s heat capacity (the amount of heat required to change its temperature). Denser materials like marble can store more thermal energy than less dense materials like wood. However, in the context of feeling cooler, thermal conductivity is the more significant factor.
      So, it is primarily the thermal conductivity of marble that is responsible for it feeling cooler than wood.
      The moore you knooow.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JoshuaCollins Yes, thank you. Always happy to engage with folks on the science of mattresses! I do understand of course that the real driver of feeling cooler is the thermal conductivity, not the density, as mentioned in our comment above. But of course, the context here was explaining why the manufacturer's use of a "higher-density yarn" might result in a cover that feels cooler. To this end, I thought the analogy of comparing marble and wood - two familiar materials that have both disparate density and proportionately disparate conductivity - was a straightforward and relatable way to explain this. Admittedly, I skipped some of the scientific nuance by not getting into the connection between density and thermal conductivity, but this was simply in the interest of keeping the explanation more concise, and making it clear and understandable for as wide an audience as possible.
      I hope that's helpful - thanks again!

    Why would we care about a "cooling soft touch cover" whan Everyone puts on a Mattress Cover and then a Bottom Fitted Sheet right?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. It's true that nobody sleeps on a mattress with nothing on it (well, almost nobody). When we have looked at these cooling covers in the past, the 'cooling' sensation can be fairly subtle to begin with in some cases -- and yes, sheets and a mattress protector will certainly mute that initial coolness to the touch to a degree. That said, the cooling capacity will remain the same, since the heat from your body will certainly still reach beyond your sheets. But it's true that the surface of the mattress won't feel as cool. I hope that's helpful.

      Hi Jim. Thanks for the comment. While I certainly appreciate your frustration, I wouldn't necessarily agree with that sentiment. What I would say is that those three brands each offer many different mattresses covering a wide range of prices and materials. As such, there are some that will inevitably be less durable -- which can unfortunately affect the reputation of the entire brand -- while others will do much better.
      I would also add that your frustration is part of the reason that so many online brands have become popular in recent years. By offering a small number of models with more consistent materials and an easy buy/exchange policy, they've simplified the process considerably.
      Thanks again for your comment. I hope that's helpful.

    I’m 42 years old, 5’3 tall and 142 pounds with back issues (pain), for the last 7 years I owned a Sealy Posturpedic Surrey (queen size) that I absolutely loved. Six months ago I got married and moved in with my now husband and got rid of my bed. 🤦🏾‍♀️ He has a king size bed and his Tempurpedic Rhapsody Breeze has been killing my back, so we went to mattress firm, told them what I wanted (Sealy Surrey) and they just told me that it was discontinued and proceeded to suggest me beautyrest, it has been a nightmare for my back, I’m currently on the second beautyrest mattress and I can absolutely say that this brand is not good for my back pain.
    Can you please advise me on what would it be the closest to the Surrey lane in the new models? After watching your video my guess is the Sealy Posturpedic Plus Oportune II Medium, is that correct? I want nothing to do with memory foam or pillow toppers.
    Also, the Beautyrest Extra firm was way too firm, like to sleep on concrete and now the Beautyrest Firm, is way too soft and back pain won’t go away. I’m so embarrassed with my husband, this incident makes me look like I don’t know what I really need.
    Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this message and get back at me.
