To be so petty as to injure someone just cause they beat you fair and square is just pathetic. Then again, Kobayashi seems to be nothing but pathetic, seeing as he couldn't accept being dumped, so decided to ruin Kamiya's Middle School days with a dumb rumor, so this was karma slowly building up to bite him in the end. Meanwhile, Yamashita and Kamiya helped each other get over their respective issues, one physical and one mental, so I suspect they're gonna make a great couple down the road.

In any sport if anyone gets caught intentionally hurting another player they will get shamed and ruined eventually. A sport like tennis where its a normal thing to shake the hand of the person you played against at the end that is like a huge deal. If someone wants to be petty and a coward they will learn real fast that people wont care for them.
What the antagonist has done little to do with sports, is simply an assault.
And it should have corresponding consequences.
