- This is a Motormouth couple car video with the Chief Engineer of the Toyota Crown Signia, Ryotaro Shimizu. The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors, it’s matched to an eCVT and has a combined 240 horsepower, standard AWD. You can use regular fuel in the Signia. The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia is assembled in Japan and uses the same platform that underpins the Crown sedan. It’s smooth, refined and has some good power, delivers the best of both worlds, sedan like driving comfort and SUV versatility. There are three drive modes to choose from normal, eco and sport. There is an EV mode for which allows for electric only driving at low speeds. The AWD system has a dedicated rear electric motor to deliver extra traction when needed. Toyota says their engineers spent many hours studying and engineering reductions in noise, vibration and harshness for this SUV. The The Signia looks great and has a real Lexus feel to it, it has a stylish exterior design with a monochromatic grille, sleek roofline, wide fenders, projector LED headlamps, LED taillamps, 21” dark grey wheels and a temporary spare tire. In the US, 19” wheels are standard, 21” are available. Power folding mirrors are standard in Canada, available in the US. The Signia has 6.7” of ground clearance.

This 2025 Toyota Crown Signia has a premium feel to it, Toyota really focused on giving this SUV a more upscale look with bronze metallic trim, black or saddle tan leather upholstery with double stitching quilting and piping. The Signia is a good combination of style, comfort and performance. The battery in the Signia is located beneath the rear seats.
There is a package you can add to the Limited model to get some extra features like a panoramic view monitor, traffic jam assist, front cross traffic alert and lane change assist. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
The best Toyota design in years. Congrats for a really apealing car.
Really? The front end with those painted grilles just doesn't do it for me.
That vehicle is right up my alley! The chief engineer did not use that station wagon term, but as far as I am concerned, that's as close to a station wagon as you can get.
Brave of Toyota to bring a practical, economical yet luxurious vehicle to North America.
Glad chief engineer brought up car camping ...it's always factored into my purcha$e$.
Fitting a bike or skis in the hatch is a HUGE plus.
Too many OEMs focus on Nurburgring times or rock crawling!!!
This is more like it.
Toyota absolutely nailed it out of the park with this one.
We really like it and look forward to getting it back one day for a week.
Generic bland styling.
Nope
Piano black will take a beating, but otherwise very nice.
Quite a score for Motormouth. If you think Toyotas are designed by a committee, they are not. They are designed by the Chief Engineer. They are as well-known as Harley Earl or Lee Iacocca. Great interview!
It is a shame that it will never going to make enough for Canada. Dealership might never have a test drive unit for it.
And no XLE trim level either…😢
If Toyota wants a younger customer, a good place to start would be offering a lower trim level Signia in Canada.
That is an excellent suggestion. I wrote to Toyota Canada last year when it was announced the cheaper XLE would not come here.
Just lower all MSRP
Appreciated! Thanks for putting this together for us!
Finally, a replacement for the golf alltrack. I'll take mine in woodland trim with a 1500 watt outlet in back.👍
What a beautiful crossover ! I am sure 99% of owners will have their Crown legally tinted (70/30). Love this color !
the problem will be that the dealers will cheaply tint these before they sell them and charge a fortune for the upsell.
Old pople don't tint - they can't see as it is.
@@user-tx7jl8rf6g speak for yourself! In Texas, we must have tint. And the new tint keeps out heat and is a light tint. Get with it!
Love this exclusive! Keep up the great work MotorMouth 👏👏👏👏
It's great to hear from them directly and understand their perspective on design. Nice job!
I have a 2024 Venza and I like that I seat high up because it’s more of a SUV but, I think the Crown Signia will take the sharp turns more aggressively than the Venza because you can feel a little oversteering taking fast turns.
ZACK: Thank you so much for talking to us we really appreciate it. ANDREA: Just one more quick question.
The crown emblem is the last piece of the puzzle
i still prefer the smaller crown sport....please bring that in...
Thabk you for this special video! Appreciate it
Great job again…speaks to the trust you have with the different brands that you can get some nice access with the engineer.
Once again, great content that y’all were able to provide.
Very informative video both, really enjoyed it with guest speaker 🎉
The most important question, why Signia did not get the famous Crown badge?
Your questions are the best part of this video. I think the answers were written by his marketing department, as we would expect. Good video just because we know Toyota’s answers to your questions.
Somebody took the Zoom Zoom from a CX-50, Cameryzed and hybridized it!!🤓
I really appreciate you sharing this insightful conversation with this gentleman. The only thing that appeared to be a bit of a stretch… was that the decision for not having an opening panoramic roof was a to save weight and fuel economy. That might be factual, but really?!?! It’s a decision based on money. Otherwise the vechicle would’ve need more R&D and testing and would by default… end up being a $75,000 Toyota that isn’t a Lexus. Thanks for the video.
Opening roofs often create a lot more noise and you have to deal with water.
I like your style. Great comment.
Good looking car.
It’s a beautiful vehicle. I hope it’s my next car 😁
Such a good spokesperson - way to go Zack and Andrea for getting him!. Empty nester here so having pano glass in back not a priority. Occasional passengers back there can live without it the way they have for decades! Would much rather have a regular opening sunroof. So, if that weight and center of gravity issue is of such paramount importance, an opening roof minus the back glass would probably equal out the weight of the larger non opening one now. I'm sure marketers--such as they've helped propagate the hype--are going to cry foul that every vehicle needs a pano roof these days, but..... I say give the customers a choice at least. This was a miss in the Venza and I believe here also.
We usually buy Subaru Outbacks, but this looks really good. I love the tan leather, looks, room & mpg! 👍🏻
Subaru Outback is way better than this.
@@AJSparacio413 Probably depends on what you value/looking for. Outback will obviously be the superior off-road adventure vehicle, but if your car is a pavement princess and you live in a big city with terrible traffic, it'd be hard to argue against the hybrid powertrain. The Outback also isn't winning any awards for beauty. I own a Subaru myself, so Im not trying to dig against the Outback, but I can see the appeal of this new Crown Signia.
Great looking classy ride! Tint the windows-U betcha and give us a plug in hybrid with more power!
I love this car wished I have the money to get one but I guess it will be on my wish list
Bring the Crown Sport in , that’ll be everywhere
Sure is sharp looking
You didn't ask if the Crown sport will come to north America market when he talked about their Crown lineup?😂
I mean, he is not going to say until Toyota official announces it. They’re not going to waist a equation with that
No spare tire - a deal breaker for me.
Andrea, Zack,
Beautiful Crown 👑. Great interview and presentation. Hosting Toyota’s Chief Engineer shows how well respected you are 👏
Love only wish offered macadamia interior that is in the sedan and I think it also has spare tire which this doesn’t. Hope that will come in future offers
180 lb ft of torque? With 4 people in this? Slow as molasses. 0-100 9 secs? This is going to sell well because most people want a boring appliance but this is the same price as an Audi Allroad Progressive trim.
Toyota typically does not give full torque for their hybrids - they report engine torque only. Not sure why. But the battery is probably providing 50-100 lb ft more, at least on hard takeoff. My Sienna, with essentially the same drive train, is faster than the previous V6 version.
@@user-tx7jl8rf6g interesting. That’s odd. But it still looks really underpowered for such a large vehicle. It should be offered with the Max engine.
Is there an option for no low profile tires?
u people are amazing @Motormouth
Toyota is globally number one in annual unit sales for a reason. The Crown adds to an already impressive portfolio.
Chief engineer of thousands of recalled Toyotas😂😂😂
The recalled Toyotas were the ones built in the US (Kentucky and Texas)
Still keeping my 2nd Gen, hybrid Venza Limited...
I have the Venza also I love seating high up.!! Although I think the Crown would take fast sharp turn better than the Venza but, my Venza is New and I’m not trading it in for a few years maybe in the future I traded in for the CROWN Signia OR THE RX 350H.
I see the Crown Insignia as a direct competitor to the Subaru Outback. Since Toyota is a partial owner of Subaru, is Toyota positioning The Crown Brand to be the luxury brand for the Subaru Brand like Lexus is for Toyota? This does make sense for Subaru owners looking to go upscale and keep legendary Toyota / Subaru quality and all wheel drive systems. The Styling of the Crown brand front end is far superior to the huge fish net grills current found on Lexus and Toyota vehicles. The New Camry and Prius front end styling needs to be carried over to the Next Generation RAV4.
No spare tire, just like so many others. At least Lexus gives us a run flat tire. And is there a sun cover for that pano glass roof? In Texas, we hardly ever open sunroofs and keep them closed and covered year-round.
The Limited has a power sun shade. As a Texan, you have the option to buy the XLE with a solid roof. There is no excuse for the missing spare when the Crown sedan includes one.
Is Toyota going to do more with active sound cancellation? A 28k Buick has it…
did toyota have different design team for different model?
Crown Signia XLE - $44,985
Crown Signia Limited - $49,385
These prices DO NOT include the dealership markups. These are Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) and include the $1,395 factory-to-dealer delivery charge (destination fee).
One more question. Will Toyota bring other Crown models like the Crown Sport?
$50k vehicle and not even a rear reclining seats!?! What? Yeah, 60 40 folding seats but not recline?
Team Motormouth, How much time energy and money was expended in engineering those rear seat extension flaps? 🤔Although it might not have broken any new ground, an old fashioned 40/20/40 seat with sliding and reclining features would have served customers better. In other words, Toyota has created a near perfect ski wagon for a family of four and forgotten to include a ski pass through. As we Canadians love wagons, let's hope that very soon Toyota will put their brightest minds to work engineering a Signia XLE for our market so more of us can actually afford to buy one. 😉
Tell the chief engineer to bring in Crown Sport!
Engineers do not make decisions on marketing. That's for the marketing department and the company execs to decide.
No sport, please. We like quiet and conmfortable
My 2009 Venza with 260 hp V-6 AWD has a panoramic roof with an opening sunroof. The roof glass and the rear windows are well tinted. So I don't see why the Signia could not have them.
All that effort and still underpowered, and no tinted back windows.
Love the style. Fisker nailed down a unique style but now they are gone. I guess I'll get those toyotta instead
Sure looks like a bigger Honda CR-V, which is a good thing. The interior is much improved too.
would be good if they could bring over the smaller suv, the crown sport.
Will it come in Europe?
Ask him why the adaptive dampers can’t handle a sunroof. Since Toyota said opening sunroof function was too heavy.
I personally really like this vehicle because I am a wagon fan. But once the dust settles, people and reviewers alike will realize that this vehicle comes up short on features, considering its price. Compare it to the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Premium Plus (280hp) with a sub $51k MSRP in the US market, and it is very evident that Toyota didn’t go far enough with this vehicle. Of course, if fuel economy is by far one’s main priority, then it’s a different story.
Also a wagon fan. Toyota is always stingy on the features it seems. The lack of a spare, no side sunscreens here, Etc. And I am a Toyota owner and fan. Is someone else pointed out in their other Signia video just released, Outback has a lot more features in it. Subaru skeptics or cynics will say, well, of course it does, it that has to make up for and wow with other aspects,...perhaps true, but nevertheless...
Really like the color and the ground clearance.
Sedan ground clearance is too low, while SUV is too high. Glad there is a product in between. Just a but pricy.. haha
really wondering where the venza fits nowadays..
The Venza has been discontinued.
PLEASE make it more powerful and bring the sport. It would be a true home run if it was fun to drive.
Reminds of the BYZ a electric car that Toyota is failing to sell in quantitys
I will not buy a car without a spare tire
If you can't afford to buy a spare tire, then you can't afford to drive a vehicle.
@@jraheemjefcoat429I don’t think that’s the issue, the storage location is.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q It can be mounted underneath the vehicle
There is no place to store a spare tire☹️@@jraheemjefcoat429
As a gen 1 Venza owner, I just wish it had a higher ground clearance; 7.5"+ would be nice for those outdoorsy divers.
When the Prime version comes out, I'd buy one in a heart beat.
Hello, why won’t they bring the crown sport to America? It would sell like hotcakes
You guys are Toyota and Lexus couple now :) Yes nothing like a Lexus or Toyota. Lexus for life.
My two favorite vehicle brands are Toyota and Lexus.
Who you think gets a better resale? Nx or Crown Signia ?
Crown signia. Switching from a Lexus to this, hopefully next year
BIG PROBLEM! Only made in Japan and I've read that the U.S. will receive only 20,000 yearly. Each dealership will probably get one monthly. If this is true, think about how much the dealer will mark up. I have a reservation for one at my dealer, but we'll see.
This will sell a looooot a lot alot
This fixes rav4s mushy ride quality. Awesome job Toyota!
but significantly more $$ than a Rav4...
What is a station wagon?
Toyota, I want a real panoramic roof that opens. Tinted windows. Tucked away rear wiper in the back for a sleek look. And a performance trim option. Sincerely, a younger buyer.
how does it compare to the venza...
lower, wider, more storage, similar mpg.
Infomercial; was there a review here?
How is it not a Venza!?
It is bigger and more substantial. It would also appear to be just generally more luxurious and commodious, and has a more practical, more vertical wagon back end.
Nice job Toyota ! 👍. Any idea how long it took to develop this from start to production ? Thanks !
Basically a remake of the 1st gen Venza
The Venza is dead, long live the Venza!
Why so limited color choices?
^^ Was wondering this also.
What was the inspiration for Crown Signia? Umm, Subaru Outback?
Original Venza 2.0. i really liked the first Venza. Too bad it didn't do well. I wonder if this new one will catch on better. Maybe the "Venza" name is cursed 😂
As this is a Canadian channel, it is fair to report the first Venza was a huge hit here. It sold as well as the Highlander and they gave it an extra model year after American sales ended in 2015.
@@rightlanehog3151 The current Venza which has been discontinued sold quite well in Canada as well.
@@rightlanehog3151 A family member bought OG Venza. Silver with the 5 spoke wheels. Very sharp. They still have it. Americans don't like wagons. I don't have high hopes for this one, but it does look nice. I wonder if they will make a Lexus version.
@@andreaspencer9813 If it was up to me, we would keep the Venza Vol. ii around. Every time I see a new Venza on the road I am relieved there is one fewer person on the RAV4 Hybrid waiting list. 😉 In the last video, Zack was talking about using 19" rims for winter tires on the new Signia. Here in Ontario most people use cheap 17" steel rims on their Gen 1 Venza in winter. 🥶
@@rightlanehog3151 Yes I've heard that about Ontario and Quebec, makes sense your winters are much harsher than ours. I like the current Venza too, our friend has the previous model and it's still going strong, such great space.
I would have asked why they can’t figure out how to have a spare tire in hybrids. I understand weight but they need to resign something to allow for it. 😂
Probably another Toyota you can’t get in Canada. I had my deposit for an Corolla Cross Hybrid for over a year now and still no end in site 😢
the painted grill on the crown and 2025 camry is going to chip so bad with time
Only thing this vehicle is going missing it a lot are missing mostly no tinted windows and no shade for the panoramic roof. It’ll be too hot to sit in this vehicle. Cheers!
There is a shade for the panoramic fixed glass roof, just no shades for the rear seats.
I want the Crown Sport, suv, not station wagon size
I have not seen whether this
has a spare vs repair kit.
Anything that suggest off road
or even cottage trails should
come with a spare. No one should
regret using as directed.
It has a tire repair kit.
@@andreaspencer9813 Thank you so much.
I'm in the camp that strongly prefers
an onboard spare.
I prefer a spare but lived without one for 11 years with my Volt. Only had one flat.
Ya right, go to the dealer be bent over for a crazy price and yes you want a spare tire for this thing, sorry it does not come with that feature.😂
Dealerships don’t carry inventory anymore…
Not true. I am currently shopping around. Ford is overflowing, mazda lots of stock including cx 90 or 70. Mercedes has nice full showroom and cars on the lot. Toyota less so. No hybrids that's 4sure
This will be hard to find, they aren’t making a lot of them!
Toyota has apologized for providing incorrect or manipulated data for safety certification tests. The scandal has shaken the Japanese car industry, with rivals Honda, Mazda and Suzuki also admitting to submitting faulty data.
You missed Yamaha from your list of offenders.
I will keep my Toyota Venza. I have no need for a Toyota Highlander, RAV4 or Crown Signia. I don't see why they couldn't have kept the Venza in the lineup.
I'm at that stage in my life where I don't need a RAV4 but I would something a little bit more luxurious. I don't need a long station wagon.
All my kids are grown so I don't need the Toyota Highlander.
Having said all that the crown definitely needs a V6 hybrid.
Crown Sport PHEV and Crown Sedan RS advanced are meant for Japanese market and they are throwing outdated stuff in North America. 2024 and they are still thinking for Crown Plugin.
Mine is already on order!
Same guy who developed the recall engine?
The recalled Toyotas were the ones built in the US (Kentucky and Texas)
PHEV in Canada would be nice
We asked but Toyota like all manufacturers won't discuss future products.
We need the hybrid max engine with Direct4
The horsepower of this crown signia and Camry XLE and XSE not cool they should be option of hybrid max pulling 340 horsepower…or a V6 I just can’t go for a car with a horsepower below a 2GR V6 engine
We want PHEV's in Canada not the oil Guzzlers
If they want younger... Add more power!!!!!
The Crown sedan that came out in 2023 didn’t really sell in huge volumes and while this Signia is nicer and looks more of a hatchback than SUV, will do better than the Crown sedan. Toyota definitely nailed it on this one except it’s still too expensive for a Toyota. If the Venza was any indication of being similar to RAV4 but quieter and more refined yet expensive, look at its demise! If you’re spending $60K, might as well be a Lexus. Would’ve been nice if this had a Lexus badge and was the entry level model and scrapped the UXH! The intent is there but Toyota’s strategy isn’t good as despite Toyota having a following, their customers also have a tipping point price-wise. Auto journalists predict this will sell in huge volumes…my prediction is it will only sell in very limited numbers! If this was the entry level Lexus at a more competitive price, diff story!
In Canada, pricing will limit its sales until an XLE comes in. This is Venza +$6-8K. No wonder they cncelled Venza.
But tell Toyota to chill F out with their 8% interest rate
