Great tips! Starting with a silhouette is an excellent way to incorporate the page boundaries into the sketch from the beginning, and not run out of room! We love the full-bleed image that spans across the spine- no hesitation, use every inch! Nice!
The distance splitting method for the body shapes is simple and really effective, but I'm sure a lot of practice would be required to do this and get it to work well. The face minimal details technique is a great tip, I always mess these up by trying to put in too much detail that then makes the face look very weird... Time for practice and more practice. With these videos you've given me a great guide that I reckon I'll be able to learn and put into practice for my urban sketches. Thank you Scottie.
I have “just discovered” you, Scottie, and have been binge-watching ever since. Thank you for your relaxed, reasonable approach to figure sketching. I love all of your work, AND videos 🎉
Love your work, Scottie. Your line work is so energetic and fluid. Thanks for making this longer instructional video - I'm going to start practicing right now!
This is fantastic! I like to go out sketching people on the move, but I'm never fast enough to capture the entire body. This is going to be very helpful.
I've always hated drawing people. Now I after taking Albert Keifer's Domestika class, then seeing this, I have to now start with more people. Thanks so much for this free tutorial!!
This has helped my people skills so much better seeing your silhouette technique I always would draw the heads and struggle with the rest if it’s not accurate to the rest of the body, so simplicity and such is something I’ve learned to better embrace as a perfectionist lol
The word talent is a kind of mental blocker for the beginners, it all comes from practice, practice and practice. Repeat again again and again. I will try this exercise, thanks for these tips !
Wow! I came here after your recommendation and...I actually did all 4! Successfully! on the first try!!! Thanks so much you really upped my confidence for people!
These are tips I already knew, but described in a way that made a lot more sense! I feel like I can properly implement these techniques into my art now, thank you! Subscribed ❤
Amazing video. I was so impressed at the way you were able to convey a face with just a few dots and swipes… I will be studying this reference. Thank you!
Hello Scottie Thanks a lot for the translation it's more easy to understand what you want explain to us . Thanks a lot for sharing have a good day . Corinne from France
Haha, you made it look so easy! But seriously, man oh man, this makes so much sense, and I'm switching to this approach. I'm going to toss in the trash what I have been taught so far about figure drawing, with stick figures and human bone structures and cylinders and what not, they kept me from progressing for the longest time. Thank you.
you're incredible. i've watched so many tutorials about these topics and you made me understand them in one 10 min video. i have a bit of aphantasia, so the way you simplified everything relieved me. thank you so much!
Excellent video and thorough explanation with demo! Thanks so much for your time en effort in producing these tutorials to helps us with sketching people. New subscriber! Looking forward to see more of your videos. I wish you the best and more for 2023. Blessings and take care.
Excellent video! I always though that body is about 8 heads tall. After your video I had to recheck it and it looks like I was wrong, and a typical body is indeed bout 7 heads.
Good video. You make sketching people easier than it actually is. Good exercise to keep proportional relations though. I like how you add the color wash .
Thanks for watching! Check out PART 2 here: th-cam.com/video/5slRhTTgcy8/w-d-xo.html (for more complex figures)
