Now Alber Elbaz is out at Lanvin. It's sad that nowadays fashion designers are seen as assets to be managed, traded and fired at leisure by the mega-conglomerates that own nearly all the fashion houses. Designers are treated as commodities instead of artists.
I'm not a fan of Slimane's work at (Yves) Saint Laurent. His Courtney Love/Heroin-Grunge-Punk-Baby aesthetic is overplayed and I thought that his aggressive rebranding and name-changing of YSL was disrespectful. Berge (YSL's lover and business partner) is still alive and it must've been painful for home to have a designer come in and drastically change the house that he helped build.
it's quite the opposite as Berge was said to be head over heels about Slimane........remember Yves himself sat front row at Hedi's debut Dior Homme show and have never attended any of Tom Ford's show that he did when Tom was creative director at YSL and it was well known that Yves and Berge didn't like Stefano Pilati either.
