    I think kids like garbage trucks because they’re fascinating to watch, they make a distinctive sound, they’re, in some places, colorful, they have a lot flashing lights, and the satisfaction of watching the arm come out the side, grabbing hold of the garbage can, and tipping it upside down spilling the trash into the truck is just fun to watch.

      Well that and it looks and sounds powerful, just like a trains. When I was young I wanted to be either a garbage man or a train Engineer.

      @@Drew-l5j I was promoted to supervisor within a year, making 70,000$, did that for about a year or so, decided to go back to school for Biomedical engineering, now I'm an engineer making 130k.
      I think people's life journey isn't linear, you shouldn't feel like you have to do exactly what everyone else does. At the time I became a garbage man, I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to do in college. I Took a couple years off of school, Made some good money figured out what interested me and I went for it. I don't regret being a garbage man for a minute, It showed me what hard work and dedication really is. It's a tough, gross job but someone has to do it. So I did it with pride.

    I would like to be a garbage man if it was in a smaller town, I feel like it would be a nightmare in Seattle with all the traffic and hills

    I been a gun slinger back man trash helper all my life 20 years in New York and now 3 is here in Florida back in the day was all run by the mob but anyway if you stay on the same route it's a great job your customers get to know you and Christmas time is a blessing I've been with the same partner now for years and on the same route every year gets better

    Me and my brother used to look out the window every Monday morning and wait for the garbage man. Then they changed the trucks from the ones that had the collection port in front that would raise over the cabin to the one with the arm and I was disappointed lol

    I rather smell a dead wet duck than a dumpster stop at an adult foster care!! Found that out on my route today.

    • @lonelylosersclub8453
      @lonelylosersclub8453 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gamel Traylor17 depends on where you live... most companies will take guys that have at least a year and a half truck driving experience with a class A or B license and other places it's all about who you know. I got a little lucky by making friends with a guy that had an extra application (my company never gives them out).

      San Frantana is it easy ?

    • @robertbaker50
      @robertbaker50 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most companies will take anyone anymore, long as you have a CDL Class B. There is a short on drivers across the country since most drivers are in the oil industry. Don't think its a walk in the park, every company is different and if go to be a driver, dont be a asshole and let your helper do all the work.. its bad karma, plus if you get paid a daily rate he might just get sick of your ass and pick slower and you'll be out all day. Might even come down to were no one will want to work with you. Plus you might be out there picking the trash one day and it could be anywhere from 10 to 50 tons of trash. Its a pain, some garbage can weight anywhere from a pound to 100 plus pounds, its very repetitive and exhausting. Good luck!

      I work out of the Chicago area and make over 30.00hr. The job itself is ok and pays well but it all depends on the town your routes are in if you work Residential. I work in a town that the contract agreement requires the driver to take ALL at the curb as long as the trash is contained. And these fucking slobs just set their trash out like animals. They literally just throw it out at the curb with no bags at times, furniture that is so nasty one would wonder how the fuck they can sit or sleep on it. The job can be stressful at times because of those assholes that you just wanna strangle them

    I'm the only female driver where I work. Wish more women would consider it. Never thought I would. But to me it's the easiest job you never touch trash or anything. Once in a blue moon I pick up some that may fall on the ground
