I am finally down 8 sizes to a 32 inch waist after five months on Keto. Visceral fat on my liver and pancreas is the reason I started my journey. I feel that I still have to tone my belly area now. I am learning to change my lifestyle. I’ve come a long way but I am still leaning everyday. Thank you for the great videos. I couldn’t have done it without your support, Thomas.

This is a very important way of thinking. This is what it means to change your lifestyle, as in you're doing this until the rest of your life. I'm happy to hear that you experienced the keto magic. I've been on keto for several years and absolutely never would I go back my old way of eating. Completely cement that processed sugars, carbs are actually eadible poison and you'll strengthen your resolve to stick to keto.

This is such an underrated comment.
I tried keto a lot of times, but I quit because I didn’t liked the taste of food.
Now that I found good recipes, my foods actually tastier - or at least I enjoy them more.
Lets see how much could I stick to it, but currently i feel like i can do it as a lifestyle.

I cycle through keto to target visceral fat and cut down weight every so often. I like all food, so I don’t plan on getting rid of my diet. In general I like to eat healthy, even with carbs (rice, potatoes, etc).
But visceral fat is extremely hard to get rid of and keto is great at accelerating the caloric deficit process.

My Visceral fat is melting away thanks to the Keto Diet - I am 1.5 weeks in and before I couldn't get my new waistcoat on and it was about 2 inches apart.. Today it goes on and does up but is tight so I know I am on the way :) I am doing 23/1 fasting every day with green tea and MCL oil at 8am and 12pm and I have dinner at 6pm and then nothing after that.

Referencing your comment posted today... I can’t stand it when you put yourself down. You have so many wonderful accomplishments it’s difficult to count. You’re not boasting or conceded by any means. What comes out about you is a truly honest concern and desire to share what you’ve learned in you journey in life - so far since you’re still quite a young man. I absolutely learn so much from you and I love detail - which you call being a geek.
I love being told the how & why of things . Please don’t feel you need to change ANYTHING. I’m an old grandma of 9 ( I’m 66) and I learned I’m in control of my healthcare and I’ve got choices! Keto/IF for nearly 4 years now and YOU were most of the info. But like you I’m terrible in the kitchen so I get TH-cam recipes! You’re a good man!

@Thomas DeLauer ok a situation I can’t seem to find answers: cephalic phase insulin response. I know it’s an insulin release when the tongue tastes sweet but if it’s not food or sugar -say stevia in lemon water - what happens to the insulin? It’s not used so does it just accumulate in the blood and contribute to resistance? Often when fasting I put about 5 drops of fresh lemon in water and 3 drops of stevia.

I went from an almost size 9 back down to a size 1-3. I know everyone is different but I didn't work out at all & was able to loose all that weight just by changing my diet. I lost all that weight in about 2 months.

Another great video Thomas, thank you! 👏🍏
Being post menopause and almost 60, I’ve had a lonnng haul of weight loss and fat adaptation. These old patterns creeped on over time so I’m willing to work hard to go backwards to better health and it’s not been easy. I’ve been working hard to regain my health for the last 20 years, trying many many different ways to accomplish this.
I only found out in the last two years that my thyroid was almost dead. (I also beat cancer last year with no drugs) How amazing is it that Im getting older every day but also getting better every day!? It’s not about trying to be “young” not at all. I want as video brant a health as I possibly can. For one thing it beats feeling lousy, but also shows respect for the body that I’m in charge of.
That said, I’m better and better and better every day. (The Root Protocol is amazing for understanding underlying issues)
My seriously low thyroid is steadily improving. No more dry skin like I’ve always had.
I’m cycling fasting and cycling carbs for better adaptation.
I use some other things that have vital to my success: Earthing, red light therapy, homeopathy, EMF protection and several other things. Life is complex and need to be treated with respect. The mind is the number one healer and needs to be addressed too. (JW.org)
    Thanks again Thomas!!

I don't understand some people. Keto is making all your pain and inflammation go away, keeping your body in good health and your looks in good shape by melting visceral fat. What's the idea when you quit Keto? Do you miss your joins hurting? Do you want another sinister joke about your pot belly? I mean sure, it's a bit restrictive in respect to the delicious poison that the processed food industry is selling, but thinking of all the misery that uncontrolled carb consumption caused me, they have it all to themselves.
Make this a lifestyle, and with each passing month/year you'll reap bigger and bigger benefits. Stay healthy, cheers!

@@Exydna Wow dude, you might want to climb down off your pedestal before you get a nosebleed. Every one of your hypothetical questions wasn't a question at all. It was a statement so why not just come out and say it? There could be a gazillion reasons why one stops a diet, program, exercise regime, or lifestyle change. While it's easy to change your body composition, it's harder to change a horrible personality. But good luck to ya.

    • @Exydna
      @Exydna 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@coryCuc Chill dude, lol. I wasn't attacking the person or anything. But your comment makes me think you were never really fat, maybe you've had a few kg to lose a perfect beach body or something. I was fat, like 180kg fat. You don't know what obesity can do to you. That at 20 years old, the prime of your life, when your entire body is highly inflamed and hurting like you're 80 because of the inflammation cause by the carbs. And yes those are real questions, just because you haven't experienced them doesn't mean they're not real. Take off your pink glasses and see the misery and pain that obesity can cause instead of trying to 'protect' someone when they want to back to a ultimately self-damaging lifestyle.
Again, I'm not attacking anyone, just stating my mind. With this said have a nice day, I'd rather not continue this 'discussion'. Also don't get so easily offended, especially on someone else's behalf on the internet, or you'll never have a good time.

Also, how about exercising during an insulin spike? (shortly after a high-carb meal)
Would that not burn some glucose up and lower the amount in insulin in the blood thus saving one from insulin resistance long-term if done often enough?

It's important to note that estrogen and testosterone are very similar chemicals. This is why exogenous testosterone can cause gynocomastia in men.
That's also why low levels of estrogen in women and low levels of testosterone in men, BOTH cause visceral fat accumulation.
Estrogen has a more friendly relationship with fat as a whole, as opposed to testosterone, but dangerous visceral fat is negatively correlated with estrogen levels.

Unfortunately I do not know where else to attempt to contact you, Thomas D, with a question (or questions). So, will try here in the comments.
I am 56 y/o. I am 5’7” and 135lbs. I work out 5 days a week, some times maybe 6. I am not sure what my body index is. I try not to watch my weight on a scale. I’m pretty lean and have muscle definition. I eat healthy keto (Mediterranean) and IF. My concern is with IF. I do not need to lose weight and I am concerned with possibly losing muscle mass if I do IF too often. I do not know what my “happy medium” would be. IF is important to me, not only for physical health benefits, but also cognitive health for present and future. My mother has Alzheimer’s and her sister passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s. I was diagnosed with lupus over ten years ago and I have changed that diagnosis. I know it’s due to my healthy keto, IF and consistent workout regimen. From your shared knowledge, and my continued research, I know that inflammation has proven to play a role in dementia/Alzheimer’s. In my opinion, IF is vital. Just how much and how often?
I realize you cannot give me a definitive answer since you cannot “see” me. I’m just curious what you THINK a safe IF schedule might look like for me? Two days a week? Three days a week with 16:8? I still get a little confused with all the info.
If you actually see this, thank you for your time and all the fantastic information you share with us. Strong work!! 💪🏼

Some of us, our health has a few issues our body needs to heal more so its going to take a lot longer to change shape and loose body fat. Your body could be converting the body weight into Muscle weight. Are your clothes looser? Are you starting to have more energy, feeling better on the inside?
I thought it wasn't working when I first started on this journey, as scales seemed to not move much, until a Facebook memory would come up. It was then, I could see that it was working. I looked younger and healthier. DON'T GIVE UP! Keep going.
Now into my 6th year doing keto, Intermitted Fasting, now upto 20 hrs:4 window. 2 meals a day. Getting to 1 & 1/2 meals a day recently.

Lost 40kg on 8 month of keto.
But only 1kg came from stomach fat.
My stomach fat refuses to .....
And my HBa1c stays high (prediabetes).
While FBG is "normal" (if i was on a carb diet i guess).
    HBa1c is weird.
Both my HBa1c and the no fatburning on the stomach.
    Combined with high cortisol.
    And low testosterone.
Indicate i have chronic gluconeogensis going on.
What realisticly can i do to fix this?
    I am defintly in ketosis.
Both my urine sticks and breat testinstrument confirms i am heavily into ketosis.
    So 8 month:
    40 kg down.
    Which was 7 kg muscles:(
(Feels almost as heavy to walk now as before the 40kg weightloss... as i lost 7kg muscles!:(
    And 25kg was fat loss.
The reminder (40-7-25=8kg seems to have been mostly water that was binded to carbs, protein, etc, etc earlier i guess).
And of those 25kg fat... only 1kg fat came from the stomach area.
All the 24kg came from arms and legs.
    Sooo annoying.
    I hate gluconeogenesis etc.

My kids gravitate toward high carb junk food. When their dad and I got divorced he introduced them to the standard American diet for the first time. That was a greater loss for me than the marriage honestly, seeing my kids gorge themselves with trash. I have a BS in nutrition, which makes it even harder for me lol
With that said I didn’t eat great at their age. It took maturity for me to come around. Luckily they are very active and not at all overweight but I guarantee they are setting the stage for prediabetes, which is where I landed myself in my 30s.
Regarding the spouse, well I’ve already decided I won’t marry someone, or likely even date someone, who trashes his body. Because at my age (47),
who is the one who will have to clean up the mess of his poor health choices? Me. No thanks. I’m almost done raising kids. I’m not going to be someone’s caretaker. Not when they willingly put themselves at risk for heart attack, stroke, obesity, etc.
that’s tough though if you’re already married. Be a shining example. It’s will eventually impact them I would think...
      Also I’m
Currently on vacation, myself and 3 teens. Guess who has the most energy at the end of the day due to keto diet? Me! I’m decades older and I run circles around these kids with focus and energy. I point it out when they get tired. I say look at what I eat and how much energy I have. It will eventually sink in when productivity actually matters to them.

      @CarbageMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@kayc.8283 Salmon is great. However, doing OMAD has two issues: it's easy to get stuck in a rut eating the same thing and robbing yourself of nutrient variety, and it can be difficult to ingest all the nutrients you need in one meal. Not that salmon is bad-especially wild, with the skin. I try to get it at least once or twice a week. I go on grass-fed lamb kicks, too. I'll usually eat lean after weight training-like chicken breast, shrimp or white fish.

When you say 20/4 are you referring to Intermittent fasting? What does it mean? Like fasting for 20 hours and then getting all your macros in between that 4 h period?? Im so confused with how to start. I got a keto calc and am trying to stick to the suggested macros for the first month. Lets see what happens I guess?

    • @CarbageMan
      @CarbageMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@kayc.8283 Yeah, unfortunately, what happens is you start from zero for a couple days every time you cheat. :-(
Right, 20/4 is time restricted eating. I don't say "intermittent fasting" for that, because it's not intermittent, right? A lot of people do call it that, though. If you feel like eating, eat, but make it protein and fat. You don't have to go right to 20/4. The easiest way to start is just eating later and later. Wait until your hungry, and push it a little. Try drinking coffee, tea or water, maybe even have some salt.
The most important thing, though, is to substitute proteins and fats for sugars, grains and starchy vegetables. Hope that helps. Counting the carbs really is key, at first. What made me confident was knowing I could eat the fats that were previously off limits. Butter and cheese can be good bridge foods. Later on, butter, nuts and cheese can be a trap, and easy to overeat. For now, though, it's imperative to avoid the sugars and grains.
PS: If you're feeling dizzy, it can be low electrolytes. If you cut the carbs, you're going to lose water, and electrolytes with those, so you need more salt, potassium and magnesium. I supplement magnesium (try magnesium malate, not magnesium chloride or magnesium carbonate.) For potassium, try adding NoSalt brand salt substitute to your food in addition to sea salt. When fasting, you may want to be sure and still get these even if not eating. You can get dizzy from this, though usually that's from a drop in blood sugar from high to normal. If you fast at all, you should test your blood sugar to make sure it doesn't go too low (like, below 70.)

I tried all these diets and gave up on all but one. Only the *Agoge diet* helped me lose that stubborn belly fat.

Thank you for sharing! I would like to request a few short videos that do not include lengthy scientific sources. I have been watching your wonderful videos for over 4 years. I absolutely love to learn the science and love to research. However I am just curious to see more videos from you that are shorter and more entertaining. I think you have already proven yourself to be a successful researcher because it is clear your sources are sound. Perhaps a playlist done for the lomg time subscribers would be nice. We long time subscribers will accept your shared content as reliable without you providing your sources. I believe in the saying trust but verify. So ofcourse you are trustworthy. It is not a negative request. I believe it would be positive. A very short playlist of this kind would be a sweet addition to your channel. I appreciate all of your videos! My request may seem selfish but it may also be what some subscribers are thinking as well but not saying. Ofcourse I am not saying I would like you to change anything about your style. I just thought a little addition would be nice. 😊😊

Yeah and then having a 16-piece family-sized cake all to yourself, also don't forget dessert - the 2kg icecream box sitting in the freezer. After all of that, go destroy the gym equipment all you want.
