What was it that turned you off? (By no means a diehard fan, but I read and enjoyed it.)
I think the first book was okay , but it just kinda drags for too long with the two other books. it could've been shorter without all of Jacob's whining and that unnecessary "Romance" between him and Emma, because boi that relationship was just a no-no for me personally.
@@katherine6107 it's been so long I can't remember how I felt about the pacing, but I loved the concept and I'm a ho for just about any romance so that was a definite draw for me 😅
TheWordN3rd I haven’t even finished the second book, because it seemed a bit... boring🙊🙊
@@rutamackeviciute3829 it is boring 😂 thank God I listened to it on audiobook when I was traveling and had nothing else to do or I would've DNF'd it , same for the third book tbh , like there are some chapters where the pacing and the events are really enjoyable then suddenly it goes downhill again ugh
“Crooked kingdoms is trash compared to six of crows” that one was a gun shot to the chest. I loooove both books, but I think crooked kingdoms is the superior of the two
I completely agree. 🙂👍
me too honestly. I feel like there was more that happened, and I prefer the ending of crooked kingdom (for the most part)
100% agreed
Yesyesyes I agree so much
Saaaaaaame. But my main draw to any book is the romance and CK had that in SPADES!
Why is it that every time i see a book i read i’m like: MINE!!! THATS MY BOOK!!! SEE THAT?! THATS MINE.
Bruh same
Don't worry, i am EXACTLY like you

@@katie605 oh my gosh yesss, that's totally me!! When I started reading more YA books, I watched a bunch of old booktube videos to see if they had my books in them lol

“THAT IS.... correct” MY FAVOURITE MOMENT
Yesss.. Mine tooo.. It was a bit funny and I definitely loved it
Don't you hate it when you want to be mad but they're right 🤣
"reads like how moths smell" ???? This... what does that even mean?
Raeanne Sando probably referring to moth balls/repellent which smells really gross
*Sneezes moth*
I love how everytime anyone wants to roast the cruel prince they are like "Cardan is afwul" OH NO are you telling me that 'the cruel prince' is cruel? 😱😱😱
Bells Duarte I love this comment! I really enjoyed the cruel prince.
I mean.. it’s not just about him being “mean” or “cruel” but mans had no personality whatsoever. Sure his backstory was super messed up but I don’t find one reason to love him. He just has no depth whatsoever and the entire novel the author couldn’t stop mentioning how “good looking” he was and how he was Jude’s enemy like for the 262892929th time. LIKE WE GET IT HE’S HER ENEMY MOVE ON

One of my favorite books: Wuthering Heights.
Roast: Every character is a horrible person.
*looks directly at books* Every single one of you*
@@acottel2551 Every. Single. One. 😂
@@acottel2551 I love Nelly Dean, she still not a good person, but she’s very endearing to me.
I love The Infernal Devices. But the part where Tessa slept together with Will after she got the news that Jem "died" was just.. ugh😣. It felt like she was just waiting for Jem to die so that she could be with Will
personally i love TID so im gonna have to disagree with that. it may have seemed as though she was waiting for him to die but people want to distract themselves from the grief by immersing themselves in activities and tessa probably wasn't thinking rationally. people make rash decisions with no logic behind it to cope with their grief. they both were guilty about it afterwards too. there is also the fact that she loves both will and jem equally in the same way.
I love the shadowhunter books. And currently Chain of Gold is my favorite BUT there are waay too many characters. I feel like I need to reread TID and draw a family tree just to keep up with who is what of who
Lol. This is exactly why I'm rereading TID now (that and I love it), even though I'm mostly just here for the Herondales.
Dude love all Cassandra clares books so much (im very invested in the fandom!) BUT there’s way too many books about so in sos cousins fathers half sisters dead husbands first wife’s daughter. You get the idea. Sooner or later all the books just become 💵💵💵 there’s always an opposite side to your favorite books😔
i gave up on shadowhunters books seeing how tmi ended.
@@kaseyday3755 I mean, I can't blame her for getting that bag. She gets to write a world she loves AND pay the bills... it's the dream.
Totally true! I gave in and searched up a bunch of things on the wiki page after/during my reading of the books lol cuz I was just like dang I completely forgot this person!
Favorite Book: The Raven Cycle. Roast: CANNOT ROAST BOOK WITHOUT KILLING A PIECE OF MY RAVEN BOYS LOVING SOUL
Bahia Khoury relatable
I couldn't fully roast mine without spoiling stuff.
Is it really that good...? Like I literally been trying to read the first one for so long but I always end up not being able to get past chapter one ,it feels kinda boring? Does it get better ?
King Seokjin I thought it got a lot better, but it definitely isn’t for everyone. It’s okay if you don’t like it, but I will defend it until I die!
Me but with Harry Potter 😂
“Moth’s smell” that’s... uhhh... oddly specific 👀
One of my favorites is Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. I'm actually in the middle of reading Cress for the first time at the moment (she says only like 4-6 chapters into the book).
My roast for this is that insta-love was front and center of the story. They met one day and were pretty much using the L-word like three days later. And everyone knows insta-love is a terrible trope (though not me apparently because I actually didn't mind it one bit and actually preferred Scarlet more than Cinder; the books not necessarily the characters)
I'm trying not to all caps but I love this series so much and I'm so excited for you getting to read it for the first time!!!
I read Cinder and loved it! I’m kinda scared for Scarlet because I hate insta-love
My favorite books: Percy Jackson
Roast: The humor and some of the narrative is immature.
That hurt to say. *sobbing and hugging the books because I hurt their feelings*
I am in pain now
I felt this on a deep level... I mean PJO has it's flaws, BUT I LOVE THE HUMOR SO MUCH 😭😭😭😭
I can roast Percy Jackson for you: the characters were one-dimensional, immature, annoying, and reckless. Additionally, Many parts of the plot made no logical sense (Percy has way too much power in relation to the gods, and Annabeth was meant to be smart, but she didn't seem that smart. Percy is quite rude, especially to the gods, and I can't see why they aren't doing anything about it. Fear of Poseidon isn't the reason because they have all fought in the past. Additionally, why is Percy offered godhood after the war? He isn't even the one who killed Kronos; Luke did that and it was Annabeth's influence. Also, why is it that Percy's power has seemingly no limitations? All the other characters have a fraction of their parent's powers, but Percy seems to be able to control all water, similar to Poseidon. I wonder what their power differential would be. Although the demigods go to a camp for training, they don't seem to need it and seem to be able to fight fine prior to learning how to do so. I also didn't like how it made America seem like it was better than all other countries. What about demigods in other countries? What do they do? Athena is meant to be a virgin goddess, so I'm not sure how she has children. Also, why do all the characters need to be in a relationship? Why do all the characters fall in love forever with the first person they date? Why is it that the only memory Percy has of his past is Annabeth, even though that's probably the first memory Hera would take because she hates Annabeth?). The villains were also very underwhelming. They literally don't have any personality except for evil and often idiotic. Luke was the only interesting one and he wasn't even villainous in the end. Also, and this is more of a personal thing, but I loved Greek Mythology as a child, and many of the characters in Percy Jackson weren't true to their original personalities, which also bothered me (Calypso's character, for instance, was completely flipped).
On a more positive note, I did appreciate the diverse cast of characters.
Edit: I'm sorry this was a really long rant. I don't have any reason to complain to about Percy Jackson normally. I don't think the books are that bad, but I don't think they're that good either. Reading Percy Jackson is better than reading nothing at all, I guess. Also, if someone would like to roast my favorite books in retribution, they are welcome to do so.
Stephi that hurt to read.
Tell me, what are your favourite books so I may send them to Tartarus?
@@ava_lavender I agree with this rant, but I'm still gonna be a dam percy jackson fan
My friend told me that they read the first page of the Maze Runner and thought it was terrible
*cries in fangirl*
I love your channel Jesse ❤️
That’s pretty sad not gunna lie
Katie Lynn indeed
I’m the only one of my friends who have read the series so they don’t understand my rants
Andy Stevenson Ohhhh that’s the worsttttt! the pain book lovers go through 😂
I read the first book but for some reason I just couldn't read the second. I might have to try again though because I really want to love them and it could have been me, not the book
Katie Lynn YES
It’s my favourite book series and I texted my friend whilst crying about the book and she was like “u ok, calm child calm”

Favorite book roast(edit) :
The book thief was all like:
Liesel went down to have dinner
*Here is a definition of the dictionary no one asked for*
Dinner is the main meal of the day, taken around the evening
Actually I loved the random facts literally no one asked for.
And the book itself tbh. I just love it.
I hate that I see you point and yet this structure worked for me in this book.

When it comes to "Red Queen" - Maven was my favorite character and after *SPOILER* what happend to him at the end, how the author made a bad guy from him I saddly lost my interest in the series - which I am really upset about : (
WOWOWOWOWOW IVE NEVER MET SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THAT!!! My view is the exact same!!! Maven was the absolute best and I loved him and Mare but then he turned all evil and I thought that maven still had SOME good left in him!!😭😭😭
I haven't read the rest of the series because of that to this day🙃 I have the second book on my tbr shelf, but I can't force myself to read it😅
Celine Engel ikr! I stopped after three bc of the whole TOTALLY evil maven thing😭
@@kaseyday3755 I still hope something may change in last book but I don't feel like reading the next one so far, why Maven :(
Maja Markowicz cruel king was actually not that bad with all the maven stuff. It was kind of boring but at least we saw a different side of maven!😊😉
One of my favorite books is a court of thorns and roses, but here I am roasting it. Feyre is dumb. Amarantha isn’t a very good villain. Rhys was rude (tho he’s redeemed) AND THAT WAS THE EASIEST RIDDLE EVER.
Omg I love this book so much.😂😍
That comment about the riddle though 🤣🤣🤣 Even I figured it put AND I'M BAD AT RIDDLES!!!
@@TheWordN3rd literally same lol it literally took me like 0.2 seconds to solve and all my energy not to flip ahead and find the answer to make sure im right. feyre really is dumb lol idk how i like the series so much when i dont even like feyre all that much

I've read all of sarah's books and i can say with certainty that feyre wasn't dumb exactly she just wasn't written well, there was no character building for her. That's what i think.
@leanne martin I’ve read all of her books too, and I love them. Sarah is amazing and I’m not hating on her character in any way. I’m just having a little fun roasting Feyre.😂

Lol I was literally rewatching your old videos when you posted this
Nnnoo! I love Red Queen. It’s that guilty pleasure series that you know isn’t the best but love anyway. Also, Illuminae was literally the most predictable series and book two was an exact replica of book one.
Book recommendation: ranger's apprentice series of John Flanagan. It's amazing. It is about this boy who's an orphan in the dark ages. He gets recruited by this man who shows him his ways about moving without someone seeing him and using weapons. It sounds really lame rn but I'm just bad at explaining and its amazing and it's like pjo but without the gods and superpowers. Super underrated and has one of the smallest fandoms. Must read
Iron Woman I totally agree!!!
Omg, finally someone who knows RA. The series is the reason why I started to read more, not just books for school
YESSS!! i adore Ranger's Apprentice!!!!!
I love your vids!
If you are interested in Middle Grade, I would recommend Land of Stories by Chris Colfer.
They were my favorite growing up. :)
Yeees, I love the Land of Stories!😍 I started reading them at 20 and I got hooked! I only need book 5 and 6 and I have them all.😊
I totally agree, the Land of Stories is my favourite series of all time.
Those actually inspired me to try writing a fairytale story of my own called the Twisted Tales Chronicles. It's just at the prologue yet, but I know where I want to go.
I ABSOLUTY LOVE THAT SERIES😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 my favourite books ever
Me: Tries to come up with a roast for Six of Crows-
SOC: You dare question my perfection?
Book I love: Carry On
Roast: Predictable plot, villain reveal that a ten year old could see coming, begins with a truckload of exposition, Agatha sucks, the multiple perspectives should have been limited to Simon and Baz, there’s a fine line between “playing with the tropes of the Harry Potter series” and “ripping off the Harry Potter series,” and this book doesn’t quite walk it.
That roast was just perfect, but about the harry potteryness, i think i loved it cos it reminded me why i loved harry potter, and the author just wanted to show that with her own tweaks to the story
Just want to say, you got me into Miss P's Peculiar Children and I love it! Thanks a lot, they really sucked me in!
I'm a victim too😂
0:52 it was my respond😂😭😍
honestly bronwyn is such an iconic character and I was obsessed with her in like 7th grade and she has a special place in my heart
Aaa I was the Chaol comment 😅 I loved Chaol and Yrene but wasn’t too big on Nesryn’s narrative
Same, her parts were boring in my opinion that’s why I didn’t like the book as much as the others
I just wasn’t interested in Nesryn either. I thought she was a complete asshat to Chaol for literally no reason. She would ignore him, go long periods of time without talking to Chaol. She also didn’t hesitate to go with Sartaq to the mountains and leave Chaol alone in a new continent for like a month. It’s painfully obvious she doesn’t care about him and I’m surprised that they even had a relationship in the first place. Also her chapters were soooo uninteresting, like I don’t care about your drama with Sartaq. I’m only here for Yrene and Chaol! 😂🤣
I respect all of your opinions but let’s not forget chaol was the one who ignored nesryn in the first place. She has always been there for him and yet he always considered her as a second choice and remembered about her only when he was alone. I honestly love chaol and yrene to death but you can’t blame nesryn for returning the same coin to chaol and seeking her own happiness just like he did, especially when she finally found someone (sartaq) who treated her like she deserved to be treated since the beginning
Emi Caka true!! I don’t hate Nesryn or anything I just wasn’t as invested, however I did like the parts with spider gals / Maeve
so i was watching one of my favorite shows and then saw this notif and was like:

Strange the Dreamer is one of my favorites, BUT...
I mean the characters knowing each other for a little longer before the romance sprouted wouldn't have hurt, would it?
Or, even better, if they had simply had a REALLY good friendship.
Hmm, that's my favorite book and I kinda agree with you
Agree
Ash by Malinda Lo: A cinderella retelling where she falls in love with a huntress. Magic, fairies, a classic fairy tale, and a lesbian romance. Loved it. Wasn't just like every other retelling I've seen.

Just wanted to say thank you Jesse, as you were the main reason I got into reading. And now I love it!!
just got out of a reading slump.. couldn’t read for 2 months and today i finished an entire book..
also love your editing SO MUCH!
I’m late, I know. I don’t wanna hurt myself by roasting my favorite books, but here we go.
*Red, White, and Royal Blue:* there was just a lot of sex. Awesome plot, ADORABLE ship, but like I just wanted some cute Alex and Henry scenes when they were together. 🤷🏻♀️
*Percy Jackson:* there was just too many dam plot twists. “Family, Luke. You promised!” 😭
*Red Queen:* the first book was like literally the only good book in the series. And Mare can make some pretty stupid choices.
*The Hunger Games:* Katniss was a little too rude to Gale when he couldn’t save Prim. I mean, really? He was your best friend and he tried like come on Catnip.
*Harry Potter:* while not one of my favorites anymore because you just grow out of it, Harry and Ron would not have survived without Hermione. They’re just dummies 😭😭 and there is literally no diversity AND ALSO being Desi myself, I was SO offended by the dresses Parvati and Padma wore. If they wore like TRUE Desi dresses, they would have outshone everyone at the ball.
*Aurora Rising:* I HATED how Auri literally invalidated every one of Kal’s feelings because he didn’t “tell her the truth” LIKE MAN GIVE HIM A BREAK. I cried so hard in Aurora Burning
*The Wrath & the Dawn:* While I love the series, The Rose & the Dagger didn’t quite match up to the first book. That’s just a personal opinion though.
There’s a lot more books, but I’m gonna stop here for now before I rip my heart out anymore.
Don’t worry about your unpopular opinions, we all have them. I mean my favorite series is throne of glass so when it comes to imperfect parts of the series there are, we can all relate. But we still love them with all of us
That raven cycle one cut deep
Roasting one of my favourite books: I loved the sun is also a star but I agree when people say it's very insta lovey. But honestly I loved the different perspectives and how it showed that our actions can have such huge consequences in our and other people's lives. The romance is honestly cute so kinda of a guilty pleasure of mine. And I'm probably going to get attacked for saying this but I wasn't the biggest fan of the fault of our stars. I think it was ok, and there was no glaring problems but it just didn't click with me.
My favorite book is Caraval, but I just can't find it in my heart to roast it!
Yessss it’s not my favorite but I still like it
Fav book of all the time : kingdom of ash I DONT KNOW HOW TO ROAST IT
i can do it for u if u want. KoA is not my favourite book in the world
A suggestion: Kingdom of Ash, where you can find a cast so big, it’s a full body one
I’m still hoping for a bookshelf tour 💕💕
I lowkey agree with the Crooked Kingdom opinion 😬 Six of Crows is my favorite book and Crooked Kingdom, while good, is not as great as SoC is.
I love how he has two Again But Better books in the bottom right and they look exactly the same 😊
This editing is EVERYTHING
The editing for these gets me every time 😂
Kafka on the Shore is one of my favorite books ever, but that refrigerator thing messed me up (you know the thing) and I needed more closure at the end, but I still love it OKAY
The jump rope bop omg!!! What a memory I forgot I had
Strange the Dreamer - where nothing happens for 80% of the book and insta love kinda happens but I would die for Lazlo and Sarah (and like pretty much everyone else too like damn the characters are just so damn endearing!!)
My favorite book: clockwork princess Roast: the villain wasn’t scary and the climax was anticlimactic there I said it 😭 (will still forever be one of my faves uwu)
Yeah I’ll agree with that even though it’s one of my favs too.
I would sincerely like to thank you as I just finished reading loveboat, Taipei at your recommendation and I can honestly say it is now one of my favourite novels of ALL time! So thank you and please keep on recommending us amazing novel. I really appreciate it 😊😊😘😘

The cursed child roast is something else. It hits home, so harsh.
the night circus is my ALL TIME favorite book. i love it so so much and will defend it to the end. but i do understand that the competition aspect didn’t live up to how it was described. and there wasn’t too much in the romance department. (although that was a plus for me)
I see how Tower of Dawn could be boring to some people but I loved it so much!! I feel like there was so much character development and that's my favourite thing. I can see how it could be annoying when you just want to get on with the final battle and know what happens.
Christine and Jesse post on the same day! This is a good day
"A true apology doesn't have a "But" " So well said
3:14 was the moment that Kaz and Inej almost kissed, but didn't😭😭😭
And I'm still not over it, LEIGH BARDUGO!
I actually really liked the fact that they didn’t kiss. I don’t think either of them were ready for that yet (especially Kaz) so for me it felt true to the characters.
Emily Elizabeth same, it was true to their characters and I liked how she didn’t make them kiss just so they could kiss
Roasting a curse so dark and lonely:
(i really liked it)
It was another beauty and the beast retelling with no particularly original plot twists 🙊
I only just finished up Crooked Kingdom and I totally agree that it isn't as good as Six of Crows, but I still loved it!

My favorite book of all time is IT, by Stephen King.
Roast: There is one scene that is completely unnecesary and it's message could've presented in a different way
Just finished 'The Well of Ascension' by Brandon Sanderson and it was *chef's kiss*
Miss Peregrine (I've only watched the movie) is actually unique in that it takes character that have powers that would be considered super powers nowadays, and doesn't need to make it a Super Hero story, just lets it be what it is.
I was waiting for this video since the day you told in your story 🤩💛🌻
I seriously want you to read the dan brown series, it's amazing. The genre is Sci-fi
I get so distracted when booktubers sit in front of their shelfs, I just look at a the titles trying to pick my faves
One of my favorite books is The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, but I have to admit that the beginning gives me unrealistic training montage vibes because Rin basically never sleeps and is still somehow able to perform so well in all her classes and exams, and it’s like,,,, how?! But you know what, I’m not about to let unrealistic sleeping habits and performance outcomes make me love the book any less.
The Red Queen roast hit me hard, and I'm still in pain.
Yeah same. Red Queen is one of my favorite books series of all time and everyone hates it 🤣
